NSUT PhD Selection Criteria
- Research Scholars for all departments are selected based on the Entrance test conducted by NSUT and an interview round.
- The weightage of the entrance test and the Interview round will be 70% and 30%.
- The department-wise cutoff marks for the entrance test shall be dynamic. Candidates have to score 50% or more to appear for the interview round.
- 5% relaxation is provided for reserved category students.
- Candidates’ research aptitude and competence are judged during the interview.
- Students need to make a PowerPoint presentation of up to 10 minutes based on their research interest.
- Candidates with a valid UG-NET Score are given first preference.

NSUT Admission 2026 FAQs
Ques. How competitive is NSUT admission through JEE Main?
Ans. Getting into NSUT through JEE Main is quite tough, especially for demand branches like CSE, CSAI, and IT. For outside Delhi students (All India quota, general category), the top branches are super competitive, Artificial Intelligence closed at 4411 rank, CSE at 4519, and IT at 6495 in the final Round 4 of 2025 counselling. That usually means needing a 99+ percentile to grab them safely.
Ques. Does NSUT offer direct admission?
Ans. NSUT does not offer any direct admission for its B.Tech programs—no management quota, no side entry, nothing like that. You have to clear JEE Main, meet the eligibility (like 60%+ in PCM for general), and go through the official JAC Delhi counselling process only. All seats get filled strictly based on your JEE Main rank, with 85% reserved for Delhi region students and 15% for outside Delhi.
Ques. Is choosing a lower branch at NSUT better than a top branch at a lesser-known college?
Ans. Yes, most times it is better to pick a lower branch at NSUT than CSE in a not-so-famous college. NSUT has good name and in 2025 placements, overall average pay is around 18.75 lakh per year, with a median about 15 lakh. Even lower branches like Mechanical get 15 - 20 lakh average, ECE 10 lakh, ICE 10 lakh, and many students from these still get software jobs at big companies because of coding groups and alumni help. In lower IPU colleges or similar ones (not top like MAIT/MSIT main), CSE average is often 5-9 lakh only. So, NSUT's lower branch gives a better start, more chances to learn coding.
Ques. Can I upgrade my branch after joining NSUT?
Ans. Yes, you can try to upgrade your branch in NSUT after joining, but it's mostly based on your original JEE Main rank, not your college marks or CGPA. They do an internal upgradation round for first-year students (like in August after classes start), where you fill new choices online if you want a better branch. It depends on empty seats left in popular branches like CSE/IT and your old JEE rank—higher rank guys get first chance.
