What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the college and the students are?
As a Head of Department (HOD), my roles and responsibilities are to collaborate with faculty to design and update the curriculum and ensure it remains current and relevant to academic standards. Managing the class schedules to ensure the academic plans are going smoothly is also my duty. I also need to address the needs of students with disabilities and provide accommodations to ensure equal access to education. Moreover, I also look into reviewing the performance of every faculty member and creating a healthy environment for students and faculty members in my department.
How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented? What are the types of projects that the students are working on through the program?
To provide a practical approach to the subject, we provide holistic personality development, like soft skill development and interpersonal skills, to enhance the student’s employability. Along with it, we organise field trips or site visits to companies and factories relevant to the subject matter. We have also incorporated real-life case studies into the curriculum and analysed actual business scenarios, which will help students apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations. The college invites industry professionals to serve as adjunct professors or guest lecturers, teaching specialised courses or sharing their practical experiences. Moreover, we encourage faculty to stay updated with industry trends through seminars, workshops, and industry conferences. This knowledge can be integrated into their teaching.
How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?
It is mandatory to establish a healthy relationship between students and faculty members and for that, I encourage faculty members to serve as mentors and advisors to the students and help them with academic and career guidance. We ensure that we manage everything with an understanding of students’ psychological needs and for that, we organise department events, student meetings, and classes occasionally to engage with students informally. We all work diligently towards it to build healthy relationships and maintain a friendly and approachable demeanour, fostering an environment where students feel comfortable approaching teachers with concerns.
How did you train or prepare yourself/ faculty to deliver the program to the students?
We keep faculty informed about industry trends, emerging research, and advancements and also encourage them to adopt student-centered teaching approaches. We focus on active learning and engagement and ensure that faculty members create an inclusive classroom environment. We also train faculty in designing effective assessments, including quizzes, exams, and project evaluations, to measure student learning outcomes accurately.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?
For the college, facilitating internships, co-op programs, and opportunities for students to gain real-world experience in their chosen field and providing guidance on creating effective resumes is important. We encourage our students to pursue additional certifications, workshops, or courses that can enhance their qualifications and make them stand out. Additionally, we encourage the students to participate in relevant competitions, hackathons, or challenges to test their skills and gain recognition. We collaborate with career services to provide job placement support, including assistance with job applications, interview preparation, and job matching.
What do you see as the department’s/ college’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?
The greatest strength of our department or our university is that it's a student-friendly university where we understand the psychological needs of the students and work on them. We are offering not only academic courses but also overall personality development. We are concerned about their psychological growth. We monitor student outcomes, such as graduation rates, job placements, and alumni achievements. Our goal is to create not only future managers but also to boost our student’s confidence and coping abilities in today's competitive environment.
Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?
I would like to suggest to current youth that they not be afraid to step out of their comfort zone. Challenges and failures are valuable learning experiences. Hard work is most effective when it's consistent over time. Develop daily or weekly routines and stay dedicated to your goals, even when you face obstacles or setbacks. Additionally, don't neglect your physical and mental well-being. A healthy body and mind are essential for sustained hard work.
