What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the college and the students are?

My primary responsibilities as the HOD include managing the department to ensure its smooth functioning, managing, and designing the curriculum and academic activities, and providing leadership to the faculty members. To ensure the smooth functioning of the department, I implement efficient administrative processes, facilitate regular faculty meetings to discuss challenges and find solutions. I believe in providing comprehensive support to students, both academically and personally and for that I encourage faculty members to be approachable and supportive, ensuring students receive the guidance they need for overall development in their career.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

We focus on providing practical classes to students, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life scenarios. By conducting practical classes, students get hands-on experience in applying theoretical concepts. We organize industrial tours on a regular basis to various sites such as cement factories, power plants, hydrogen power plants, and construction sites. This helps our students to get the practical applications of civil engineering concepts, such as observing construction techniques on-site or the operation of power plants. This will help them in understanding and motivate them in their studies by connecting theoretical knowledge with real-life scenarios.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

Basically, we ask students to revise the topics taught in the classroom and guide them on how to apply scientific concepts in the engineering field. For example, we emphasize the importance of understanding viscosity and how to utilize it effectively. We also teach them about stress strength and its applications. We provide guidance on how to practically utilize scientific principles in civil engineering. Additionally, we help the students to stay updated with recent advancements in the field.

What are the types of projects that the students are working on through the program?

In the civil engineering department, we have a separate curriculum activity for final year students where they are required to prepare a project based on their specialization. Some examples of the projects include modern Bridge concepts, modern building models, and other related topics. These projects involve designing and constructing models that use sustainable and energy-efficient features, smart technologies, and innovative architectural designs. The aim is to expose students to the latest trends and advancements in the field of civil engineering. This includes projects on structural analysis and design, transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering, or environmental engineering. The goal is to allow students to explore their specific interests and gain hands-on experience in their chosen field.

How did you train or prepare yourself/ faculty to deliver the program to the students?

We encourage our faculty members to conduct research work in their respective fields before delivering lectures to the students. This helps them stay updated with the latest advancements and ensures that they have a deep understanding of the subject matter. We also provide regular training sessions and workshops to enhance their teaching skills and techniques. We understand the significance of government job preparation for our students. To ensure that our faculty members cover these topics, we have regular meetings and discussions where we identify the key areas and subjects that are essential for government job preparation. We provide them with the necessary resources and support to deliver these topics effectively to the students.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

I organize regular meetings with both students and faculty to address any problems faced by the students during the course and practical sessions. This allows us to collectively find solutions and improve the teaching and learning experience. Additionally, we try to connect with each individual student, understanding their concerns and providing guidance. To promote a sense of community, I encourage collaboration and teamwork among students and faculty members.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

I would suggest that the students should maintain a consistent study routine, both during and after class. Regular study habits help them in understanding and retention of concepts, ultimately leading to better academic performance. Having a clear mindset towards their goals is crucial for success. It helps them stay focused, motivated, and determined to overcome obstacles and challenges that may come their way.
