Management Education

You have held important key positions in educational institutions throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Education is all about making others learn what you have gained over the years. That is one of the best things I have learned from my teachers. I have inculcated that in my work and today I can consider myself a teacher. The knowledge that I have gained over a period of time and the experience I have gained help me share it with my students; that's the best thing about my job. I am able to help my juniors. Here, juniors are my students, which is what I prefer to call them.

How does the curriculum of your institute ensure the best practice of the industry?

We follow IP University's prescribed syllabus. Alongside the syllabus that is given to us, we've done many other things, like introducing value-added courses. We've introduced many other courses for students. There are also speciality courses for our students handled by faculty members with expertise. These faculty members develop their own curriculum alongside the IP University syllabus. All the faculties run their own curriculum for the students' overall growth.

What do you think should be the college's top priority over the next ten years?

Today is the generation of AI. We all heard about Chat GPT, which has caused a stir in the industry. Over the next ten years, in the field of journalism, we are expecting news channels to integrate artificial intelligence as well. We will have bot anchors deliver the news. It is pertinent today for students to learn and pick up AI so that they can contribute to it tomorrow. It is also important to understand that bots can never replace jobs and there will always be a need for human beings. However, one will have to keep pace with technology to remain competitive.

When you first came to this college, what was your vision for the university and how it has evolved over time?

I want MERI to be the number one institute in the region and industry. All the members of the MERI family are working towards that particular goal. However, having said that, we are not rigid about certain things, meaning we are not strict about what we have to do for the students. We are constantly taking suggestions from students and leaders in the industry to know what changes are to be included.

What would you like people to know about your university that they may not know?

We have introduced many value added courses that are not run by any neighbouring university. At MERI College, we have a startup hub where one can contribute ideas. If it's a good idea, students can get the opportunity to run their own business while they are also studying. This is a new venture at MERI that will benefit the students a lot. We have also collaborated on two international projects and MoUs with around 30-plus colleges and institutes around the globe to provide special courses and internships.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your college?

I don't consider my students just students. My relationship with them is that of a mentor and mentee. Additionally, we have mentor-mentee activities that take place after study hours where one can come up to their allotted mentors and discuss anything and everything. The discussions are not limited to just studies; our mentors also act as friends, philosophers, guides and teachers. We are there to help the students learn things after class as well. We help them in their career paths and with their personal problems.
