Dr. K. Ravikumar is the Admission Officer and Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science at RRASE College of Engineering in Chennai. He has pursued an M.C.A. and an M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from Bharath University, Chennai. He also earned a Ph.D. from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. Additionally, he has more than 16 years of experience in teaching and has an interest in Software Engineering, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Cloud Computing. Furthermore, she is also a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education, New Delhi.
What measures do you take to introduce a functional perspective of the subjects or to make them more skill-oriented?
It is therefore RRASE College of Engineering’s policy to incorporate industry projects, internships, and a lot of laboratory sessions into our programs. Such collaborations with top IT companies and industrial associations make sure students are aware of contemporary trends and technologies as they solve real-life issues. We also engage professionals from different industries to give guest lectures and also conduct workshops to enable theory to be grounded in practice. In addition, our faculty are encouraged to develop research activities that link to the current industrial practices to incorporate them into their regular teachings. This outlook is important as it makes sure that our students are marketable when they get out of class.
How is the curriculum planned or mapped and approximately how frequently is it revised to help the students?
The programs of study to be offered by RRASE College of Engineering are planned effectively by engaging a learning cycle of constant and constructive assessment from various stakeholders, such as students, graduates, industrial employers, and scholars. We update the content every year as new technology and new industry standards emerge and are integrated into the process. Our curriculum development committee is very active in designing and proposing new ideas to develop new courses or modules, especially those that are in high demand in the market, like artificial intelligence, data science, renewable energy, etc. Thus, the curriculum at our college is more flexible. and constantly developing to meet the modern HE student needs while providing our students with the up-to-date knowledge and skills necessary for the modern job market.
What measures proposed by the department to the students are effective in helping them acquire important skills?
In our department, we provide several best practices with the goal of better preparing our students and those are project-based learning, industry internships, and collaborative research projects. Here, we strongly focus on case methods of student engagement, such as case discussions, case analysis through simulations, and role-plays. Also, we provide various educational trainings for staff and management development and soft skills, including communication, teamwork, and leadership, which are valuable in any workplace. This way, industry visits, and technical competitions, along with offering intensive practical exposure, give students an edge in the market. This innovative education, provided together with critical and practical thinking, prepares learners for their respective careers.
What problems did you encounter/are encountering in delivering and promoting the quality of education in your department?
Among the challenges that we have considered factors affecting this study, one of the factors is the need to cope with the fast-growing innovations in technologies and integrate them into our syllabi. Moreover, the consistent problem is the pursuit of attracting and retaining high-quality faculty, who in turn are to offer up-to-date education. Another factor related to resources includes the available funds, which can limit the procurement of better equipment and new technologically advanced laboratories. Another one is the development of cooperation with a business environment as the key to offering students practical experience. In response to these challenges, we court the appropriate companies, obtain appropriate funding from grants and sponsorships, and invest a lot in continuous faculty development. However, the challenges stated above persist and our commitment to quality education is not shaken.

What was your perception when joining the college, and how do you intend to realize the same?
When I became a member of RRASE College of Engineering, my aim and dream were to have the institution turn into a center of excellence in producing engineers and innovators who would be competitive in the global market. To this end, much effort has been directed towards quality improvements in the curriculum, human capital, and engagement with business. New programs and specializations have been developed for the new growing areas of fields, research activities have been extended, and such academic industrial relations where students can be exposed to real work experience have been enhanced. In this article, we can see that The First University is in the process of constructing an environment that will eventually transform it into an outstanding university focusing on engineering.
In what ways does the established curriculum of your college reflect the best industry practice?
The curriculum for our courses is developed in consultation with professionals in the field, thus presenting the current trends in the market. We integrate into the curriculum real-life projects, cases, and interactive workshops that apply existing trainees’ learning to practice. What’s more, the update of the curriculum and modification of our programs is done regularly with feedback from our industry partners, which means our students are trained in the current techniques and technologies. Also, elective courses and concentration program options enable students to acquire a specified subject matter focus. This approach helps us produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable in knowledge but also application because we mimic the employers’ environment.

Internships, industry projects, and interactions with professionals must be used to acquire practical experience from actual working situations.
