Dr. Vaibhav Vitthalrao Dixit is the principal of RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering. He completed his PhD and his M.E. in E and T/C from Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, in the years 2015 and 2008, respectively. Dr. Dixit also holds a B.E. degree in Electronics from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, in the year 1996.

You have held key positions at educational Institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education career?

Young students are the backbone of the nation. Engineering undergraduate students are generally aged between eighteen and twenty-one. This is the right age for the transformation of a human being. I believe that if focused and positive efforts are taken, the students will surely come out as bright citizens in the professional world. Since I am focused on this phenomenon, it keeps me connected in the educational domain.

Being the Principal of RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

Taking care of each individual and marching towards the goal of the Institute by following the correct ethical path is my philosophy of leadership. The leader should be a friend, guide, and philosopher. I follow it in my daily work. If we achieve success, I ask my faculty and students to go ahead, take credit, and enjoy. If we fail, I go ahead, take the responsibility, and try again. This is my simple style of working; which has proved to be great.

Being the Principal of this college how do you strategize about the key programs and plan for marketing and administration of your school?

As the Principal of RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering, for strategies for key programs and plans, we take care of all the bits and pieces in the teaching-learning process to achieve success. The process consists of consistent efforts by the engineering students, overall improvement of the students, and placements. My strategic plan consists of strengthening these three pillars through administration strategies so that we do not need any marketing techniques to reach the masses.

Any insights into how your college could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

Sinhgad Technical Education Society (STES) and RMD School of Engineering have a set of clear missions and goals. To welcome the students from various backgrounds of, we have several provisions in place; for example, there are several scholarships for students from economically weaker sections, earn-and-learn schemes, and scholarships for various student categories on a merit basis. These focused schemes are designed to make students more comfortable and welcome in the institute.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the college and students are?

My role, as the Principal, is to ensure the proper ethical and educational work is being done. We want to establish a suitable environment for the faculty and students of RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering so that we can achieve our vision and mission quickly. As far as the responsibilities are concerned, I am responsible for the execution of the daily tasks that lead to excellent examination results, placements, development of the laboratories, and the overall growth of the college.

What do you think should be college’s top priorities over the next ten years?

Engineering is a professional degree, and I believe that if we do not manage to keep up with the pace of technology, we will lag behind. I think the priorities for the next ten years should be to strengthen and establish excellent infrastructure at the college. We also need to develop ourselves enough to stand strong in front of the competition.

When you first came to RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering, what was your vision for the college? Has it evolved over the time and how far along in implementing that vision are you? 

When I first came to RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering, my vision was to enhance and develop a conducive learning environment in college. I am very happy to mention that we have succeeded quite a bit in it. We can see this through our excellent examination results and placement success rates. Thus, it has indeed evolved over time and turned itself to be sustainable.

What would you like people to know about your college that they may not know?

I would like people to know that RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering is such a well-established college. We provide quality engineers who are trained in the right practical skills to succeed in the workplace. I would also like to let people know about our student-centric activities and supportive work environment among all stakeholders.

What do you see as your college’s greatest strengths?

I think there are many strengths at the RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering. If I had to mention some of them, our student-centric efforts are one of our biggest strengths. Other than this important aspect, our outcome-based education as well as the excellent examination results are also our pride. We have an excellent placement track record which can also be considered one of our prominent strengths.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your college?

In order to establish a healthy relationship and environment in my college, I believe in empowering my faculty and giving them the space to discharge their daily duties. Since they are the internal stakeholders, I take care of their welfare so that everyone has a sense of belonging at RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering. 

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

I would like to advise the current youth and aspiring students to be strong in their technological fundamentals. You must also develop essential skills to increase your chances of employability. Similarly, I would also like to tell the youth to always think of and try to establish their own start-up. A start-up contributes to the GDP of a nation.
