Gravitation is the universal force of attraction that is seen to act between all matterAn object when thrown upwards, reaches a certain height and then falls downwards is the perfect example of seeing how gravity works.

Universal Law of Gravitation

The universal law of gravitation claims that every particle of matter found in the universe potentially attracts other particles with a force which is directly proportional to the product of the masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

The Universal Law of gravitation can be expressed as:
F = GM1M2/R2 

Wherein,

  • G = universal gravitational constant (Nm2/kg2)
  • R = radius of the heavier body (km)
  • M = mass of the heavier body (Kg)

Buoyancy

Buoyant Force can be defined as the force via which every object suspended in a fluid medium is visibly seen to be buoyed in an upwards direction. 

Buoyant Force is based on several factors, like:

  • Fluid density
  • The object volume or displaced fluid
  • The acceleration due to gravity in the specific area

Archimedes’ Principle

Archimedes’ Principle claims that a submerged object in water, either partially or fully, can potentially experience an upward buoyant force equivalent to the weight of water which is displaced by the object. 

Formula of Archimedes’ Principle: Fb = ρ x g x V

Here,

  • Fb is the buoyant force
  • ρ is the density of the fluid
  • V is the submerged volume
  • g is the acceleration due to gravity
