The important topics of class 6 science chapter 9 include the following:

  • Habitat and Adaptation – Habitat of a living organism is the place where it lives and fulfil its daily needs. Adaptation is the process which enables a living organism to survive in the natural environment.
Habitat is made up of biotic and abiotic factors. Biotic factors include plants and animals, whereas abiotic factors include climate, water, temperature etc. 
  • Types of Habitats – Different types of animals survive in different habitats. Some animals lives on land while others need water to survive.
Habitats are broadly classified into two types – Terrestrial Habitats and Aquatic Habitats. Terrestrial habitats include deserts, mountains, grasslands while oceans, ponds and lakes are types of aquatic habitats.
  • Characteristics of Living Organisms – Living organisms show certain characteristic features that makes them different from non-living things and helps in their survival.
Respiration, growth, response to stimuli, excretion and reproduction are some of the unique characteristics of all living beings.
