The important topics of class 6 science chapter 10 include the following:
- Story of Transport – In ancient times, animals were used as a means of transport. For transport through water routes, simple boats made of wood were used.
| Invention of wheels made it easy to discover new means of transport that were fast and convenient. Steam engines, automobiles etc. are some more advanced means of transport. |
- Units of Measurement – Measurement is the comparison of an unknown quantity with a known quantity. This fixed known quantity is called Unit.
| In ancient times, length of foot, cubit, yards etc. were used as units of measurement. Nowadays, International System of Units (SI units) is used. |
- Measurement of Length – Length is used to measure distance. Length of an object is the measure of its size from one end to the other.
| The SI unit of length is metres. A metre scale is generally used to measure length. |
- Types of Motion – Motion is defined as the change in the position of an object with respect to time. Motion can be classified mainly into two types – Rectilinear and Circular.
| The motion in a straight line is termed as rectilinear motion. When the distance of a moving object is always same from a particular point in the centre, then it is called circular motion. |
