Ans. Before I rank these institutes, I will warn you against joining IIT Roorkee for CS. IIT Roorkee is understaffed and also lacks facilities for research work. Despite being the oldest IIT, it has failed to meet IIT standards and has become a big disappointment  Only a few professors around 10 are there in the CS department and most of them are least interested in doing or promoting research work. So for research aspirants, IIT Roorkee is the last love to be. However, if your only agenda is to secure a well-paid job, IIT Roorkee with its tag will definitely fetch you one. However, an MBA from their Mumbai campus can be a good option to consider. On the other hand, IFMR offers only MBA and Ph.D. programs, so it is not possible to pursue an M.Sc from there. As for JBIMS, it is the most prestigious institution in Mumbai, but there have been some concerns raised about the accuracy of their placement salary data. Additionally, the selection process for their M Sc course is quite competitive, with only 30 seats available for the program and a large number of candidates competing for those spots. Ans. MS in Computer Science is a research-oriented master’s program at IIT Ropar. There are around 5 to 7 courses you will need to take on for this course. It is different from a regular MTech Program.  You will be trained to gain expertise in this course to work on various research problems as well as expected to publish papers at esteemed international conferences and journals. MS in Computer Science is similar to Ph.D. but this program is for a short duration. Work Experience: If you have work experience you will have an edge over others. Because if you have experience in industrial fields, working on practical problems will be easier for you. If you aim at working in the industrial field after the completion of your MS(R), with your industry experience you would be able to land a higher placement package than your fellow mates. Also in pursuing academics further, experience generally comes in handy. Placements: Your placement and placement package depends on your skills and your academic achievement as well. If you have good marks in the master’s degree and you have formulated research papers worthy of appraisals then you do not need to worry. Industries would be more than delighted to have you. Although this is a new program, there is a slim chance of any challenge in your way of receiving good placements. In 2021, the average CTC offered at IIT Ropar was 12 LPA. The institute is the only one with an A++ grade by NAAC. Admission: University of Calcutta: For admission to MSc programs, the university has its entrance exam followed by an interview. Applicants should have at least 55% marks in BSc (Hons.) Computer Science or equivalent. 1st-year fee for MSc in Computer Science is Rs.2,314. St. Xavier's College: Admissions to PG courses, including MSc in Computer Science are based on the entrance test conducted by the university. Applicants must have attained a bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent (BIT/BCA) with a minimum of 55% in Honors. The minimum percentage required is 45% for the reserved category. The total fee for the 1st year in MSc Computer Science is Rs.22,000.
