Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is relatively affordable as per the engineering college fees trend is concerned, but we also have fee waiver system based on the reservation criteria, family income criteria. Later we are also provided by many scholarships based on our performance in the semester exams.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course taught is really helpful, insightful and industry relevant. A strategic feedback is also taken from us to rate the course taught to us. We have to give 2 exams annually and finally the score is both is considered to calculate the final SGPA.

Campus Life

Campus life is absolutely the best part of the college. A lot of diversity.. a lot of students from the middle east, Nepal and even Nigeria!! The absolute huge campus has everything you'll need from banks, canteens ... a swimming pool , yes... even a swimming pool. The tech fest, Innovision is conducted around November and the annual cultural fest, Cosmo is conducted in January... both are absolute hits with fun activities, good food and music. You'll find all the books you need in the library. Smart classrooms are present with air conditioning (Rourkela is hot, summers are almost unbearable without air conditioning). Sports culture is excellent. Every hostel has badminton courts and some even have basketball courts. Indoor games are also present. The students run a lot of clubs(almost 60), communitie(like the Google Developer Students Club), media body( Monday Morning ).

Course Curriculum Overview

Btech in Industrial design is a very underrated course. I didn't have much idea about it when I was applying for it. But the work load is comparatively less. The curriculum is Design oriented as well as inclines towards practical engineering solutions. Designing solutions of actual real life problems. Faculty is one the best in the country, a lot of research is going on at all times. Since the batch size is small, the faculty: student ratio is very good... 1:36 Most of the professors are from IITs or had done masters from abroad. Teaching methods range from presentations to practical projects and activities. We have 2 exams in a semester, the mid sems and the end sems. Both are connected timely. It was not too hard to pass these exams, but scoring good was tough.

Course Curriculum Overview

I choose this course because my rank was not so good . I may get other departments but I choose it because it is not so hectic which helps me to enter into non core branch which is tech field for which I get more time. Also I can learn UI UX designing along with graphic designing. As we are 1st year we donot have enough knowledge about faculty students ratio. But the faculty are amazing as someone expect from national level colleges.Exam are quite hard. Because 8 cg is usually considered as a good cgpa

Campus Life

Annual fest or tech fest are the most enjoyable life in our nit. Usually these are conducted in month of November and January. There is a huge library with variety of books to engulf the knowledge of sea in our nit library known as biju patnayak central library. Sports and other activities are must in our college. There are variety of clubs conducting these extra curricular activities.

Admission

Firstly one need to appear in JEE mains entrance exam.it's not necessary for someone to qualify the exam. After the entrance exams are over the seat distribution is done by josaa. One needs to fill the application for josaa which isn't a difficult task at all. However it is the job of a student to select the colleges of his choice from the list provided in the descending precedence of the branch and college of their choice. Based on the availability of one's ranks the seat availability for his her choice of branch is done. The applicant is notified after allocation of a seat. The applicant is expected to report at the nearest reporting centre of josaa and wait for the subsequent rounds at the end of all rounds the final choice is locked and students are expected to register at the college where a seat is offered to them. There is special following the josaa counselling conducted by csab in the same manner as josaa which is responsible for the leftover seat distribution of NITs and other prescribed colleges.

Course Curriculum Overview

I am in 1st year. Joined in 2019. The year is divided into two semesters. The classes are hectic in either of the semesters. Maths and physics are common for each sem. The first sem has maths1 and physics1 and 2nd sem has physics 2 and maths 2. Half of the students go for basic electronics, environmental and safety engineering, English, biology in the first sem and rest of them go for basic electrical, mechanics and chemistry. And yes people from every stream have the same curriculum for the 1st year. Both the sems have their own hardships and depends on the students how they cope up with them. After the 1st sem subjects are interchanged.

Admission

The admission process for engineering aspirants is highly flawed and named under a single banner, the JEE exams. Under JEE, you have two exams, the basic one, JEE main, which you have to then qualify to sit for JEE advanced, which allows an eligible candidate to take admission in IITs, or indian institute of technology. Those who couldn't qualify , or opt not to choose IIT due to branch preferences, can opt for NITs , which take their students through JEE mains' merit list. Further, during branch selection, you have to put your preferred branch in a list form, putting the most preferred one at the top, and the least preferred at the bottom. After 7 rounds of counselling, if a candidate gets a seat , he's eligible for admission in that specific college and branch.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum for my branch, industrial design is pretty vague. This being a new branch, professors are having a hard time procuring books and study sources, while emphasis is laid more on creative designing and modelling. Technical aspect is reduced to basic mechanics subjects such as kinematics of machines and mechanics of solids. 3D apps such as CATIA, MATLAB, etc are taught as well. Overall, a designer's perspective is maintained. The exam structure on the other hand is a highly obsolete system which takes bimonthly exams on a semester wise basis. There's a mid term for 30 marks and an end term, of 50 marks, with 20 marks available with the professor. End grades are done using the CGPA system.

Job opportunities and placements are good. They are better than most of the college in the country. Very few remain unplaced. All of them get a decent package and some of them get their dream package. Yes, internships are provided. The on campus internship recruiters come from day 0 of the beginning of the penultimate year. They hire them for 2months with a decent stipend and based on their performance they even give PPOs.

Ques. What is the prospect of production engineering in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Himani Bose on 23 Mar 21

Ans. Many people think that production engineering is mechanical minus thermodynamics. Which is not true. Production engineering is completely different from mechanical as the subjects are different. My friend is currently in the 4th year of production engineering, NIT Trichy and according to him, it doesn’t really have a good prospect. Here’s why: While other departments have 6 subjects per semester you’ll be having 7. This can get quite hectic for you at times. Despite so much hard work, placements are not good at all. You will never be treated equally to your mechanical friends, however good your profile is. Although you can go into most of the mechanical engineering fields like automobiles, industrial tools making, etc. you will be paid lesser than your mechanical engineer mates. However, if you are planning for higher studies and research, then production is a very good choice. Being a production engineer opens up the manufacturing, industrial, and mechanical higher study options too. So, if placement after B.Tech. is your focus, please look elsewhere but if you are into higher studies then surely go for it. Choose wisely.Read more

Ques. How good is production engineering at BIT Mesra?

● Top Answer By Prithvi Shah on 16 Feb 21

Ans. The Production Engineering department at the Mesra campus, boasts of excellent facilities. A friend of mine recommended BIT Mesra as it is one of the best departments to opt for in BIT Mesra due to the following reasons:  The infrastructure here is great and boasts of well-equipped workshops and labs for forging, foundry, carpentry, welding, fitting, etc with all sorts of machinery. Most of the faculties here are very knowledgeable and will be helpful during your course. They make sure the subjects are understandable and interesting. Some of the topics are obsolete in today's world and you’ll need to update yourself as per current trends. The department organises Seminars and conferences regularly to keep students in trend with the industry. The workload is decently comparable when compared to other streams. So, if you can put some effort you can easily shine in the academics’ part. Placement wise although this department is not excellent you can try to be in the top 15 students in the batch so that you can grab good opportunities. Some of the top organizations such as Hero Moto Corp, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, NBC Bearings, Vedanta, AVTEC LTD, etc visit the campus for roles related to production engineering. Apart from the placement opportunities, many students opt to pursue higher education too. Some of the seniors are pursuing their higher education from top institutes like IIM’s etc. To grab better opportunities, it is good to brush some basics related to Mechanical engineering such as SOM, Thermodynamics, I.C Engines, etc. As some of the Mechanical companies allow the students from production engineering for their recruitment process too.  Here is some information about the institute:  Highest Package 49.76 LPA Average Package 11.76 LPA Fees 11. 57 Lakhs INR No. of seats 15 NIRF Ranking 38 (For engineering) So, if you are interested in production engineering and willing to put in some effort to be on the top you can definitely opt for Production Engineering in BIT Mesra.Read more

Ques. BIT Mesra CS or RVCE CS?

● Top Answer By Akriti Banerjee on 09 Aug 23

Ans. My sister is in her 3rd year of engineering at CSE RVCE. Earlier, she was going for BIT Mesra considering its better ranking and reputation over RVCE. But a friend asked her to reconsider her decision because RVCE CS placements are much better and with enough coding skills and a good CGPA, you can easily secure a 20+ LPA package. Bangalore as a city offers a plethora of opportunities and options, especially the young enthusiasts.  The institute has an active start-up culture and many students become entrepreneurs after a few years m. The BIT tag is slowly losing its credibility and worth as the quality of education is deteriorating day by day Bangalore's location offers more learning opportunities than Ranchi  The crowd here is very diverse so you get to experience a diverse culture and a new way of living that helps in personality grooming. RVCE has a management quota too so you will be surrounded by both talented as well as average students. Overall, I feel RVCE will offer better opportunities because of its excellent location in contrast to Ranchi.Read more

Ques. How is production engineering at nit calicut?

● Top Answer By Shaurya Singh on 25 Mar 21

Ans. You must know what you are getting yourself into. The mechanical engineering department of NITC offers 2 BTech courses that are Mechanical and Production. Both of these departments share faculties, labs, some courses, and other facilities. But at the end of the day, both are different courses. There are two types of people seen in Production Engineering at NITC: Students who wanted to study mechanical, but didn’t have the rank for it or could only get mechanical at other NITs. Production is after all similar to mechanical. Students who didn’t have an appropriate rank to choose a branch/college of their choice, but still wanted to study in an NIT. There are few things that students commonly felt during their days: Students are often seen saying that they should get mechanical equivalent certificates. There is no purpose in saying this as they are two different branches. Students also complain that teachers are biased. Few teachers refrain from teaching students from production batches. Mechanical batches are taught mostly by permanent faculty while production batches get guest faculties. There are very few placement opportunities for Production batches in comparison with Mechanical. Core companies are even fewer. The students of Production are often isolated from other batches of students. They are allotted spare rooms. Categories Production Engineering at NIT Calicut Course Fee 5.42 lakh Placement Percentage 70-80% Highest CTC 8 LPA Average CTC 6 LPA Recruiting Companies Tata, Bajaj, HPCL, BPCL, TCS, Texas Instruments, etc. The placement options are not as rare as students may make out, but it may not be in the field that they are looking for. So in the end one can say that, if the student truly wants to be a mechanical engineer, then this college probably isn’t for you. If they just want the NIT experience, then they should know what options they will have after college.Read more

Ques. How is the production and industrial engineering at DTU?

● Top Answer By Pranav Tigga on 14 Aug 20

Ans. Production and Industrial Engineering is a specialization branch of Mechanical Engineering. Most of the subjects are similar in both branches. DTU is a good college in India. Students securing decent JEE Mains rank are able to get admission in it. This branch has good prospects for the future in DTU. Most people are concerned about future prospects in the branch they choose. For production and industrial engineering at DTU, these prospects are good. Many companies that recruit mechanical engineers are also open to this branch. In today's world, most of the jobs are in the IT sector. These companies want people with certain skills. They do not care about the branch of their employees. DTU has a good coding culture. Most of the students practice computer programming. There are clubs and some groups of students who help their friends and juniors to learn skills. These skills help them to make a good resume to impress the recruiters. If one has an interest in working in core companies, then also they have a chance at DTU. If one maintains a good academic profile and an exceptional achievement record, he is sure to get a core job. This branch also includes learning of management skills which are very helpful. Students of this branch can also appear for GATE. This way they can get jobs at PSUs or complete M.Tech in this branch. The location of DTU is also a boon for the civil services aspirants. Delhi is known to have top coaching centers for civil service preparations. So the people aiming to crack UPSC can also opt for this college. Thus, if you see all advantages of opting for this branch in DTU, then it is quite a good option.Read more

Ques. Which is good for fire and safety engineering, NFSC Nagpur or CUSAT?

● Top Answer By Vivek Kumar on 12 Feb 21

Ans. Both the institutes are government institutes and provide best in class education when it comes to Fire and safety engineering. They offer good placement opportunities in government and private organizations with good packages. However, NFSC Nagpur might be the choice to go due to the following reasons. CUSAT: Let’s discuss CUSAT first.  The institute offers both fire and safety which includes more topics related to engineering courses which are very useful from a placements perspective.  CUSAT is both AICTE and NBA accredited so has a good curriculum. One of the downsides is that in CUSAT fire drills do not take place regularly which is required by some companies during the placement process. Even though it is a very famous college in South India and has a good placement record, the infrastructure is a bit old compared to NFSC Nagpur. The competition here for the Fire and Safety course is more and you need to have a good rank in the CUSATCAT. NFSC Nagpur: NFSC Nagpur has a course curriculum that is in line with the world’s top institutes with more focus given to physical standards and course syllabus. The institute focuses more on the fire drill process and physical fitness along with the academic part. It is a central government institute and provides the best placements for its students. The institute's alumni hold top positions in top fire organizations in India. The value of fire engineering here matches the IIT tag when it comes to fire engineering. It is very much necessary to have proper time management to align yourself with daily routines. All the hard work you put in will be reaped as many top companies including PSU’s come for recruitment here. BE in Fire course is a newly added one in this institute and competition is a bit less. The first few batches have passed with flying colors and have good placement records with the average package being around 10 LPA. Considering all the facts above it is safe to say that NFSC Nagpur is the best option of the two. It is a central Govt. college under the Ministry of Home Affairs and has a rich alumni network in major public and private organizations.Read more
