NIFT Chennai B.Des Leather Design: Fees 2025, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

NIFT, Chennai offers Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in 6 specializations with total 42 seats in each specialization. Candidates applying for B.Des should pass 10+2. Admission to B.Des granted on the basis of the CAT (Creative Ability Test), GAT (General Ability Test) followed by a Situation test, conducted by NIFT. 

The six specializations are-

• B.Des. (Fashion Design)
• B.Des. (Leather Design)
• B.Des. (Accessory Design)
• B.Des. (Textile Design)
• B.Des. (Knitwear Design)
• B.Des. (Fashion Communication)

Eligibility Criteria 

1. The candidate must have passed 10+2 examination of any recognized board OR
2. He must have secured a pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects. OR
3. He must hold a 3 or 4 years diploma recognized by AICTE OR
4. He must have cleared General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).

Note- The maximum age limit to apply for the course is 23 years as on 1st October. For candidates of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, person with Disability category, there is a relaxation of 5 years.

Selection Criteria

Candidates need to appear for the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT). The shortlisted candidates will further have to appear for a Situation Test. In the final merit list, CAT score is assigned 50% weight age, GAT score is assigned 30% weight age while Situation Test is assigned 20% weight age.

GAT (General Ability Test) for B.Des is a written test of a total duration of 120 minutes. It consists of 100 questions divided among several sections namely Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.
