Nift chennai: worth the hype?

Likes

There more exposure, industrial visits which helps the student to learn more
Experienced Faculties in nift chennai are actually really helpful
The infrastructure of the campus is unique and really beautiful

Dislikes

The food is not that great and is a little expensive
Limited hostel facilities and too many rules
The workload can be demanding and intense competition

Admission:

One would of course choose nift for its strong reputation, experienced facilities and their industry connections. Compared to other design colleges the infrastructure , the placement is way better and it also has strong industry partnerships. Moreover the student exchange program gives students a change to study in too fashion college i.e FIT NYC

The campus itself has Library it has more that 17,500 plus books and the availablity of computers , labs , pattern making , garment construction lab , many more facilities are there
The faculty is very friendly if we did bad in the assignment also they give some ideas to improve. And they were like friends so good faculties and each one has individual mentors they also very kind and give tips
Nift is known for its celebration and festivals many events were happen next by next

Dislikes

Things I don't like that the nift don't give that much importance to celebration of events ig will happen but in the breaks or afternoon after the college only not the full day but very few celebration will happen whole day
There is more competitive in this college our cgpa is matters we have to work with fulfill to gain marks
Nift has language problem mainly those who don't know or not fluent in English they will definitely struggle

NIFT Chennai is great

Likes

Campus life is nice, the people are nice there is a little bit of a language barrier but you can overcome it by talking to everyone
Academic stress is given and the faculties are interested in what you are doing. Unlike other government colleges the faculties push you to do better and be better.
Design interventions are appreciated and a lot of redos are given to the work to be better. Depending on your department you will have great to bad faculty so it's dependent on the department and specialization you choose

Dislikes

Clubs are not student oriented there are mostly headed by faculties since at the end of the day they have to approve the events and designs. Recently a lot of politics also occur
Working at campus after 7 is not allowed and most of the work should be completed in college itself. Towards the jury dates people need to work in the labs but it's not available causing issues.

Admission:

OoFor us to get into NIFT there is a gat cat exam meaning general aptitude and creative aptitude. After clearing the exam you get into the studio test where a bunch of materials is given and topics, from the topics you choose one and make a model from the existing materials. I had studied according to the UCEED exam and other than UCEED exam I cleared all others and didn't really need to study for the rest.

Life of a design student

Admission:

My main focus was to get into NIFT. But to keep options, in case I wasn't able to clear NIFT, I had applied for IIAD and UID as well. I am in a general category so I didn't get any quota. To appear for B.des in NIFT, you must pass STD Xll, any stream. The maximum age to apply for this programme is 23. The entrance exam is taken in 3 parts; One day, you'll have CAT (Creative Aptitude Test) and GAT (General Aptitude Test). In CAT there are questions to judge your creativity, you'll have the drawing part here. This paper will be for 3 hours. In GAT you'll have basic Maths, Reasoning, English and General Knowledge. This paper will be for 2 hours. Once you get shortlisted, you'll have to appear in the situation test. You'll get materials here, and you'll have to make a 3D model according to the question, and a write up explaining it. Once you get the final result, you'll get your rank and then will appear for counselling where you can choose the course and campus according to the availability of seats.

My experience with nift

Admission:

We have to write a separate entrance exam to get admission in NIFT. They have two rounds of entrance exam. One is written test which is in OMR formate. They will ask questions from general topic like English grammar, general knowledge, aptitude and few fashion based questions. Those who passed this test will be called for second round. The second round is group discussion and personal interview. The GD will be based on a general fashion case study and personal interview is very easy where they will ask about yourself.

Admission:

The entrance is a 2 level examination. The first exam happens in the month of Feb where the fist paper is on mental ability and aptitude, the second paper is a Creative Ability Test where ones drawing skills and creativity is tested. Once the results for the written exams is announced one has to appear for the situation test which happens in the month of May. The Situation test is to tests your creativity and imaginations in a constrained amount of time. Based on your written exams and Situation test you are given a rank after which one has to appear for counselling. Based on your rank you can choose the center and subject of your choice.

After clearing this, there was a situation test where in we were supposed to create a 3D model using plastic sheets threads and straws in a given time frame using our imagination and visualization skills. Based on these two we got our rank and were called in for counseling sessions to select among-st different course options & centers.
