TCET BE Lateral (Computer Engineering) FAQs
Ques. Is BE Lateral (Computer Engineering) at TCET a full-time on-campus program?
Ans. Yes, the BE Lateral (Computer Engineering) at TCET is a full-time, on-campus program. Students are required to attend regular classes, practicals, and lab sessions at the TCET campus in Kandivali East, Mumbai. There is no part-time, online, or distance learning option for this program. Note that TCET also offers a separate "BE Computer Engineering (Course for Working Professionals)" which is a different program; the lateral entry DSY program discussed here requires full-time attendance.
Ques. What is the difference between BE Computer Engineering regular (4 years), BE Lateral (3 years), and BE Computer Engineering for Working Professionals (3 years) at TCET?
Ans. The regular BE Computer Engineering is a 4-year program for HSC students. The BE Lateral (Computer Engineering) is a 3-year program for diploma holders/B.Sc graduates who enter directly in the 2nd year through the DSE CAP process. The BE Computer Engineering for Working Professionals is also a 3-year program but is specifically designed for working professionals and has a different admission process. The lateral entry DSY program is for fresh diploma holders and follows the standard DSE CAP admission route.
Ques. Which diploma branches are eligible for lateral entry into BE Computer Engineering at TCET?
Ans. Diploma holders in Computer Engineering and Information Technology are the most directly eligible branches. Diploma holders from related branches such as Computer Science, Electronics and Computer Science, and allied technology disciplines may also be considered as per DTE Maharashtra's branch-to-branch eligibility mapping. B.Sc graduates with Mathematics as a subject in HSC are also eligible. Candidates should verify the exact branch eligibility from the official DSE information brochure released by the State CET Cell each year.
Ques. How competitive is it to get BE Lateral (Computer Engineering) admission at TCET through DSE CAP?
Ans. Computer Engineering at TCET is one of the most competitive branches for DSY admission in Mumbai. With an approved FY intake of 240 seats, DSY seats are approximately 24-36 (10-15% of FY intake). Given TCET's strong reputation and placement record in Computer Engineering, demand is very high. Students with diploma percentages above 80% generally have better chances. It is strongly recommended to fill multiple college and branch preferences during CAP option form filling.
