TCET BCA FAQs
Ques. Is TCET a good college for BCA, and how does it compare to other BCA colleges in Mumbai?
Ans. TCET is one of the few engineering colleges in Mumbai that also offers BCA, which gives BCA students access to engineering-grade infrastructure including advanced computer labs, the Accenture Innovation Center, TATA Technologies Centre of Excellence, and CISCO and INTEL labs. The college is NAAC "A" grade accredited and has a strong placement cell. However, since the BCA programme was only launched in AY 2024-25, it is relatively new and does not yet have a long track record for BCA-specific placements. Students looking for a well-resourced campus with strong IT industry exposure will find TCET a good choice, though those seeking a college with a longer BCA legacy may want to compare with other dedicated BCA institutions in Mumbai.
Ques. What is the total fee for BCA at TCET, and are there any hidden charges?
Ans. The adhoc fee for BCA at TCET is Rs. 89,506 per year for AY 2025-26, making the total for 3 years approximately Rs. 2,68,518 (excluding refundable deposits). The refundable deposits (Library: Rs. 2,000 and Laboratory: Rs. 3,000) are returned at the time of leaving the college. The fee for AY 2026-27 is subject to revision by the Fee Regulation Authority (FRA), Maharashtra, and the final approved fee will be notified before admissions. There are no hidden charges mentioned officially, but students should check for any additional charges such as stationery fees, professional body membership fees, and exam fees which are announced separately via college circulars.
Ques. Is the MAH BCA CET 2026 score mandatory for admission to TCET BCA, or can I apply directly?
Ans. For Maharashtra State candidates, a non-zero score in MAH BCA CET 2026 is mandatory for admission through the CAP (Centralised Admission Process) which covers the majority of seats. All India candidates can use their CUET (UG) score, with preference given to CUET scorers over MAH BCA CET scorers. Additionally, TCET has an Institute Level Quota where a limited number of seats are filled directly by the college; students can enquire about this directly with the TCET admissions office. It is strongly recommended to appear for MAH BCA CET 2026 to maximise your chances of admission.
Ques. What career options are available after completing BCA from TCET, and is MCA a good next step?
Ans. After completing BCA from TCET, graduates can pursue careers as Software Developer, Web Developer, Network Administrator, Database Administrator, Digital Marketing Specialist, AI/ML Engineer, or Data Analyst. TCET's placement cell actively supports students for campus placements. For higher studies, MCA (Master of Computer Applications) is the most popular and recommended next step, as it deepens technical knowledge and significantly improves placement prospects and salary packages. TCET itself now offers MCA (launched AY 2025-26 with 120 seats), so BCA graduates can potentially continue at the same campus. MBA in IT or Information Security Management are other popular options.
Ques. Does TCET BCA have hostel facilities, and what is the approximate annual hostel cost?
Ans. Yes, TCET has multiple hostel options for students, though hostel accommodation is optional and not mandatory for BCA students. The most affordable option is the Boys Hostel (Mahadev Hostel) at Rs. 6,000 per month (approximately Rs. 72,000 per year for a 12-month stay), with a refundable deposit of Rs. 20,000. The ASPIRE Students Hostel is a premium option at Rs. 12,100 to Rs. 14,300 per month depending on the floor. All hostels offer AC rooms, washing machines, refrigerators, water purifiers, Wi-Fi provision, and 24x7 security. Electricity charges are billed separately. Students from outside Mumbai are advised to apply for hostel accommodation early as availability is limited.
Ques. What is the difference between the 3-year and 4-year BCA programme at TCET, and which should I choose?
Ans. TCET's BCA programme is structured as a 3 or 4-year programme under the University of Mumbai's NEP (National Education Policy) framework. The 3-year programme leads to a Bachelor's degree, while the 4-year programme leads to a Bachelor's degree with Honours or Research, which carries greater academic value and is better suited for students planning to pursue higher studies or research. Students who complete 3 years and exit receive a Bachelor's degree; those who continue for the 4th year receive the Honours/Research degree. If you plan to pursue MCA or MBA after BCA, the 4-year Honours programme is recommended as it provides a stronger academic foundation and may be preferred by some postgraduate programmes.
