National Power Training Institute (NPTI) has been set up by the Government of India under the Ministry of Power, to function as the National Apex Body for Human Resources Development of Indian Power Sector. NPTI (Eastern Region), Durgapur is one of the nine Regional Institutes of NPTI established in 1968.

The institute complex is located at the City Centre area (Michel Faraday Avenue) and is about 9 Kms. From Durgapur Railway Station. Taxis, Auto rickshaws are available at Durgapur Railway Station. City buses also ply upto City Centre from where Rickshaws can be engaged for reaching the Institute.

NPTI institutes are fully equipped with the latest state-of-the-art-training infrastructure and also expert faculty with long years of professional and teaching experience with adequate research and development exposure. These Institutes are conducting a number of training programs for Power Engineers, Operators and Technicians in the areas of Thermal and Hydro Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution System and other related areas. NPTI (Eastern Region) Durgapur plays an important role in the field of HRD in the Power Sector as a leading Institute in the Eastern Region and till March 2010 has trained about 30000 Power Sector personnel in technical and managerial skill development programs including various professional and academic courses.

ALL ABOUT NPTI, DURGAPUR

Admission:

1-I applied for most of Bengal's prestigious colleges like IEM, Heritage, Netaji Shubhash and of course Jadavpur University. I ended up going to NPTI DURGAPUR for its well know single branch coree stream of Power engineering and also its presence only in two institutes i.e.Jadavpur and NPTI. 2-No quota availed, got it through WBJEE. 3-The last rank of admission was 4500, luckily I had 1993 as my WBJEE rank. Age, as was 17+nd admission criteria, were 60+ aggregate in 10th and 12th (8+ cgpa wise). 4- The admission process was smooth and faculties took care of minute details and processes.

Admission:

Canteen's food quality can be further improved. The teachers personally associate with the students very well, and they helps in everything. All study material are provided from the College , which is very useful later in life. And such books are not available in the market.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There is no focus on research. Course curriculum has become outdated as now a days govt is focusing on renewable energy resources whereas whole syllabus of Power Engineering focuses on Thermal Power. In Power Engineering one has to study almost full mechanical and electrical engineering. Because of this syllabus becomes very vast as compared to other stream of engineering.
