Question Answer

Ques. I got CSE in VIT Vellore and will get mechanical engineering in NIT Calicut. Which one should I choose?

● Top Answer By Suchit Raghuwanshi on 27 Aug 21

Ans. NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore.  On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.  The first path is to go for mechanical core, in which you will get ample research opportunities every now and then. However, the placement scenario will not be that great and you might get some PSUs as campus recruiters for mechanical jobs. The second path is to go for IT Jobs regardless of your mechanical branch.  For this, you need to start doing regular coding and relevant skills to compete during the placement rounds. Most of the students are placed by mass recruiters, Although many reputed companies hire but very few students get placed by them. Categories Mechanical at NIT Calicut CSE at VIT Vellore Course Fee 5.48 lakhs 7.83 lakhs Highest CTC 20 LPA 20 LPA Average CTC 9 LPA 6-8 LPA Recruiting Companies L&T, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Tata Motors, etc. Flipkart, Oracle, HP, Dell, etc. At last, it all depends on your interest and caliber to do well on various career paths. However, if you are inclined towards CSE only then VIT is quite a good option because placements are pretty good there for CSE. Some of the major recruiters include PayPal, Microsoft, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, etc.Read more

Ques. ECE in VIT or ECE in IIIT Dharwad, which is better?

● Top Answer By Madhumanti Halder on 20 Apr 21

Ans. CSE in IIIT Dharwad is a better option to opt for. As of now, they don't have a permanent campus but they will have their campus soon. See, there are pros and cons of every college/institute. Somewhere you might find one thing and another might be equipped with another better thing. IIIT Dharwad also has some pros and cons.  Cons: Don't have their permanent campus as of now and the temporary campus is also not that good. You have to pick your peer group very wisely because the type of people you choose will become your peer group. Pro The institute in which you will be studying is of national importance which is controlled by MHRD. It has a good reputation just like any other IITs/NITs. You will get the mentorship of some experienced faculties as PhD is mandatory for all the faculties here. Dharwad is quite close to Bangalore so you can get good placement opportunities. The campus of IIIT Dharwad will be really amazing. The facilities like hostel and mess are better in comparison to any other college/institutes. If you are a sports lover, you will have many sports facilities like cricket, football, basketball etc. And most importantly, you will have the brand name of IIIT which really matters. Categories IIIT Dharwad VIT Course Fee 9.45 lakh 7.83 lakh Placement Percentage 70-80% 80% Highest CTC 15-20 LPA 24 LPA Average CTC 8 LPA 6 LPA Recruiting Companies Wipro, Deloitte, Intel, TCS, etc. Accenture, Capgemini, Infosys, IBM, etc. Talking about VIT, if you have a huge amount of money in your pocket, then you can opt for it. Although, they are not providing any good placements in their records. So, now you know about both the institutes very well, so choose wisely. All the best!Read more

Ques. How is the Mathematics and Computing in IIT Guwahati?

● Top Answer By Rithi Dasgupta on 03 May 23

Ans. For a genuine math lover, Mathematics and Computing program at IIT Guwahati is a literal treat. You need to be proficient in Math to take up this course. The syllabus includes core math concepts combined with knowledge of CS as well. Towards the end, the math is confined to statistics and finance. The syllabus is not very flexible initially but becomes so in the last two semesters. Here are a few pros and cons pertaining to the course Pros : The MnC branch boasts excellent placements second only to the CS department. The placement percentage stood at 91.94%. Out of the total 62 students that opted for placements, 57 were able to secure decent jobs. However, finance firms and banks are yet to realize the true potential of this department. One can get an INR 20 LPA by doing a decent internship and maintaining a good CGPA. Excellent Master's opportunities are even better than CS students. This is the best option for those planning to get a master's abroad. To upgrade your CV, you can do internships and choose electives accordingly. All this will increase your chances of admission to CSE, data science, finance, and mathematics. Job opportunities: This program has excellent opportunities in terms of jobs as well as research and many fields are open to hire students of this course.  Cons The rigidity of the syllabus makes it the jack of all trades master of none. You cannot choose the elective according to your interest during the initial years. Many useless courses add to the overall workload with no increase in knowledge. Those who aren’t into finance may find it difficult to cope with it as it’s impossible to drop finance courses during the initial years. In the near future when the IT industry will be at its peak, MnC might be better than CSE in terms of monetary benefits. If you aren’t certain about your area of interest, then Maths and Computing are definitely better than all core branches except CS. Read more
