There is not such hikes in fees in recent years. The total fee of an year is around 2 lakhs. There are lots of schorlarship that the institute as well as the central and state government provides. The amount of scholarship depends on the type of scholarship which varies from 30,000 to 1,00,000. There are lots of POR(position of responsibilty) in the college.

Fees and Financial Aid:

Though our institution provides heavy discounts on fees for the students belonging to backward sections of the society like OBC, SC, ST and EWS, but there is no scholarship for people like us in General Category and since the net fees per year is Rs. 2,60,000 per year which is very large, it is quite difficult to meet this. Till now, i have not taken part in any employment opportunites but I have taken part in some hackathons from which I have earned around Rs. 20,000 . They are Alphaverse Premier League and World Quant Alpha Submissions. Internships are available from the beginning of 3rd year where students get paid for their work. Overall, the course is quite expensive for general students

At IIT Guwahati, the tuition fee for a semester is 1 lakh, with additional charges totaling 30k for hostel and mess facilities, amounting to 1.3 lakhs per semester. However, for students with family incomes below 1 lakh annually, tuition fees are waived, while the other charges remain. For those with incomes between 1 and 5 lakhs, tuition fees are reduced to 1/3 of 1 lakh. Over four years, this translates to 2.4 lakhs for students like me with family incomes below 1 lakh. It's difficult for me to say whether choosing IIT Guwahati CSE over IIT Varanasi CSE was a mistake without more information about your specific circumstances and goals. Both IIT Guwahati and IIT Varanasi are highly respected institutions, and both offer strong Computer Science programs that are rightly comparable in almost every aspect.

The placement scenario is similarly decent at both institutes with very little emphasis on research. The active Coding Club/ CSEA at IIT Guwahati gives it a slight edge over others. Both the institutes are excellent choices for whatever you want to do after graduation be it research, open source development, or a stable job.

The only distinguishing feature is the weather as IIT Guwahati has better weather conditions than IIT BHU. However, this flaw is compensated by better connectivity of Varanasi being on the mainland.

Course structure: IIT Guwahati’s MnC program has a well-structured curriculum with the perfect blend of Computer Science, finance, and Mathematics courses. By the end of the program, you will be eligible to sit for software as well as finance placements. IIT BHU CSE too is known for its flexible course structure with a plethora of electives to choose from.
Coding culture: Undoubtedly, IITBHU has a better coding culture than IIT Guwahati. The ambiance is quite competitive at BHU if that’s what you are after. However, MnC too is gaining popularity and the decreasing opening rank can be seen as a proof of the same.
Peer group: High JEE rankers prefer IIT Guwahati over IIT BHU and thus the peer group of IIT Guwahati is more refined and superior in quality.

The choice of the institute between IIT Gandhinagar CSE and IIT Guwahati ECE depends if you want to follow the branch of your interest or want just go for the brand name of the institute.

If you value a branch more than a brand then go for the institute that offers the branch of your choice. If you are inclined towards CSE, then go for IIT Gandhinagar without much hesitation. Despite being a new IIT, it offers the IT tag and education at par with most IITs. Don’t let the fact that it’s a new IIT demotivate you. The students maketh the college and not vice versa.

Do IIT Guwahati CSE students get similar opportunities for foreign university/company internships compared to IIT Bombay?

My friend was a CS student at IIT Guwahati and he failed to secure a summer internship. According to him, only 3 students from the entire batch of CS second-year students got foreign internship offers. When he asked his friends at IIT Bombay about the same, he came to know that 6 students had got foreign internship offers.

There are a number of reasons why older IITs offer more opportunities than II Guwahati. Let’s explore some of these reasons

Unlike IIT Guwahati, older IITs have collaborations with top foreign universities. For example, IIT Kanpur’s SURGE program has tie-ups with Caltech and provides funds for undergraduate internships.
Professors are ready to accept students for internships but the lack of funds makes it impossible to secure a paid foreign internship.
Another major problem is the lack of focus on research at IIT Guwahati. Students at IIT Bombay have completed great research projects whereas IIT Guwahati students have no research accomplishments up their sleeve. Their CV is extremely lacking and does not fetch good packages.

All in all, the department doesn't encourage foreign internships and older IITs offer way better opportunities compared to IIT Guwahati.
