VITEEE 2026 (Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by VIT University for B.Tech admissions to its campuses in Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, and Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh). The exam was held in CBT mode from April 28 to May 3, 2026, and the result was declared on May 8, 2026. All five phases of VITEEE 2026 online counselling are now complete in terms of seat allotment — Phase 5 seat allotment was released on June 20, 2026, and the advance fee payment window closed on June 21, 2026. The only remaining milestone for VITEEE 2026 admissions is the balance fee payment deadline for Phase 4 and Phase 5 allottees.
- Phase 5 Balance Fee Deadline: Candidates who were allotted a seat in Phase 5 counselling (ranks above 1,00,000) must pay the balance admission fee by July 4, 2026. Missing this deadline will result in cancellation of the allotted seat. Log in at ugresults.vit.ac.in to check the payment amount and complete it before the deadline.
- Phase 4 Balance Fee Deadline: Phase 4 allottees (ranks 70,001–1,00,000) have a balance fee deadline of July 1, 2026 — just 4 days away. Check your allotment letter for the balance amount and pay before this date to retain your seat at VIT.
- Reporting and Document Verification: After the balance fee is paid, all allotted candidates must report to their assigned VIT campus for document verification and enrollment. In 2025, reporting for new B.Tech students started in the last week of July. A similar schedule is expected for the 2026–27 batch.
- VITEEE 2027 — Best Time to Start: VIT typically opens VITEEE registrations in October each year. Registrations for VITEEE 2026 opened on October 24, 2025. Students in Class 11 (2026–27) should begin preparation now to cover Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics over a 9–10 month window before the April/May 2027 exam.
What is VITEEE 2026?
VITEEE stands for Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination. It is a national-level entrance test conducted by VIT University every year for admission to B.Tech programmes at its four campuses across India. VITEEE is one of India’s most widely attempted private engineering entrance exams, with more than 2 lakh students appearing every year.
The exam is held in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode and covers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology, English, and Aptitude. You must choose between the Mathematics stream or the Biology stream at the time of registration, depending on the B.Tech programme you want. For example, if you want B.Tech Biotechnology or Biomedical Engineering, you can opt for Biology. For all other engineering branches, Mathematics is mandatory.
VIT University uses VITEEE scores exclusively for B.Tech admissions at its campuses in Vellore (Tamil Nadu), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), and Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh). Board exam scores are not considered. VITEEE is mandatory for all candidates — there is no direct admission route that bypasses it.
One unique feature of VITEEE admissions is VIT’s 5-category fee structure. For the same branch at the same campus, VIT offers seats across five different fee categories. Category 1 has the lowest annual tuition fee and goes to candidates with the best ranks. Category 5 has the highest fee. The academic curriculum, faculty, and facilities remain the same across all categories — what changes is only the annual fee.
VIT offers more than 71 undergraduate B.Tech programmes across its campuses. Popular choices include Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and specialised CSE variants like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science, Cybersecurity, and Internet of Things.
For VITEEE 2026, the exam was conducted from April 28 to May 3, 2026, in two daily shifts. The result was declared on May 8, 2026. Five phases of online counselling followed, with Phase 5 seat allotment released on June 20, 2026. The admissions process for the 2026–27 batch is now in its final stage, with only the balance fee payments remaining.

VIT uses strict biometric and identity verification protocols at the exam centre. Candidates found impersonating or violating exam rules are immediately disqualified and their results cancelled.
VITEEE 2026 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
The VITEEE 2026 exam was held in CBT mode. The paper had 125 questions across five sections, to be solved in 2 hours and 30 minutes. The exam has negative marking — 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. You should not randomly guess on questions where you have no idea of the answer.
| Section | Number of Questions | Marks per Question | Maximum Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 35 | 4 | 140 |
| Chemistry | 35 | 4 | 140 |
| Mathematics / Biology | 40 | 4 | 160 |
| Aptitude | 10 | 4 | 40 |
| English | 5 | 4 | 20 |
| Total | 125 | — | 500 |
Key Features of the VITEEE Exam Pattern
- Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT) — all questions appear on screen and you select the answer by clicking.
- Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes (150 minutes) for all 125 questions.
- Marking Scheme: +4 marks for each correct answer; −1 mark for each wrong answer. No marks are deducted for unattempted questions.
- Question Type: All 125 questions are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with four options each.
- Language: English only.
- Mathematics or Biology: You choose at the time of registration. You cannot switch during the exam.
- Single Attempt: You can appear for VITEEE only once per year.
- Exam Shifts: The exam is conducted in two daily shifts. Shift 1 runs from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM; Shift 2 from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
Score Normalisation
Since VITEEE is conducted over multiple days and two shifts per day, different question sets are used across slots. To ensure fairness, VIT normalises the raw scores using a statistical method that accounts for the difficulty level of each slot’s paper. The normalised marks — not raw marks — are used to calculate ranks and assign fee categories. This means your scorecard will show normalised marks, which may be slightly different from your raw calculation of (correct × 4) − (wrong × 1).

Rank-based Counselling Eligibility
Candidates with an All India Rank up to 1,00,000 are eligible for counselling at all four VIT campuses — Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, and Amaravati. Candidates with a rank above 1,00,000 can participate in counselling only for VIT Bhopal and VIT Amaravati (AP), subject to seat availability. This is why Phase 5 counselling (ranks above 1,00,000) saw seats only at the Bhopal and AP campuses.
VITEEE 2026 Answer Key
VIT does not release an official VITEEE answer key. Unlike NTA exams such as JEE Main or NEET, there is no public answer key or objection window for VITEEE. VIT directly publishes the result with the candidate’s score and rank. Coaching institutes typically release memory-based answer keys within 24–48 hours of each exam slot, which candidates use for a rough self-assessment.
VITEEE 2026 Marks vs Rank Analysis
The table below gives you an expected rank range based on your VITEEE 2026 marks (out of 500). These figures are approximate and based on trends from 2023, 2024, and 2025. Actual ranks may vary depending on the normalisation process and the overall performance of candidates in that year’s paper.
| Marks Range (out of 500) | Expected VITEEE Rank | What You Can Expect |
|---|---|---|
| 450 and above | 1–1,000 | CSE Category 1 at VIT Vellore (safe zone) |
| 400–449 | 1,001–4,000 | CSE Category 2 or AI&ML Cat 1 at VIT Vellore |
| 350–399 | 4,001–12,000 | ECE / EEE at VIT Vellore; CSE Cat 1 at VIT Chennai |
| 300–349 | 12,001–28,000 | Mech / Civil at VIT Vellore; CSE Cat 2–3 at VIT Chennai |

| Below 150 | Above 1,10,000 | Eligible only for Phase 5 counselling (VIT Bhopal and VIT AP) |
Safe score for CSE at VIT Vellore (Category 1) is 450 marks or above out of 500. For CSE at VIT Chennai, aim for 350 marks or above. These are approximate expectations based on 2024–2026 trends.
Year-over-Year Rank Trends
VITEEE has become more competitive over the years as VIT’s reputation and placement record have grown. In 2025, a score of around 445+ marks was the safe threshold for CSE Category 1 at VIT Vellore. The 2026 pattern follows a similar trend. For Biology stream candidates, the marks-vs-rank correlation is computed separately using normalisation — do not compare raw Biology marks directly with PCM candidates’ marks.
The key factor that affects the marks-vs-rank boundary each year is the difficulty distribution of the paper. In years where Physics is tougher, overall marks drop and closing ranks stretch slightly. In 2026, the exam was held over 6 days (April 28 – May 3) in two daily shifts, and VIT used normalisation across all 12 slots before generating the rank list on May 8.
VITEEE 2026 Cutoff: Campus and Branch-wise Closing Ranks
VIT does not publish a formal qualifying cutoff for VITEEE. All candidates who appear and score any marks receive a rank. The actual admission cutoff is determined during counselling — the last rank allotted to a seat in a given branch, campus, and category during Phase-wise counselling is the effective closing rank for that cycle. VIT’s closing ranks are released at the end of counselling, not before it.
VIT’s 5-Category Fee System — Explained
For the same branch at the same campus, VIT offers seats across five fee categories. Category 1 goes to candidates with the best VITEEE ranks and comes with the lowest annual tuition fee. Category 5 has the highest fee. The branch, campus, faculty, and curriculum are the same for all categories — only the fee changes. Your category is assigned during counselling based on your rank and the choices you fill.
Expected VITEEE 2026 Closing Ranks for CSE — Campus-wise
| Campus | Category 1 Closing Rank | Category 2 Closing Rank | Category 3 Closing Rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| VIT Vellore | Up to ~1,100 | ~1,101–5,000 | ~5,001–12,000 |

VITEEE Preparation Tips for 2027
VITEEE 2026 is over, but the next cycle starts in April/May 2027. Students in Class 11 or just entering Class 12 in the 2026–27 session have 9–10 months to prepare. Here is a practical roadmap based on VITEEE’s consistent exam pattern across recent years.
Build NCERT Fundamentals First
The VITEEE syllabus aligns closely with NCERT Class 11 and 12 topics. Start with your NCERT textbooks for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology. Understand concepts before memorising formulas. For Chemistry, NCERT is often enough for Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry if you read it thoroughly. Do not jump to reference books before finishing NCERT.
Focus on High-Weightage Topics
In Physics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Optics, and Modern Physics together account for more than half the section’s questions. In Chemistry, Organic Nitrogen Compounds, Biomolecules, Electrochemistry, and Coordination Chemistry carry the most weight. In Mathematics, Calculus (Differential and Integral), Probability, and Coordinate Geometry are consistently high-scoring areas. Direct your effort here in your first preparation pass.
Solve Previous Year Papers
Solving VITEEE papers from 2019 to 2025 is one of the best strategies. VITEEE questions tend to test direct conceptual application rather than complex multi-step problem solving. You need speed more than depth. Aim to complete all 125 questions within 140 minutes to leave 10 minutes for review. VIT releases a sample paper on its official website — solve it as a priority.
Take Full-Length Mock Tests
Start taking full-length mocks (125 questions, 2 hours 30 minutes) from at least 3 months before your exam date. Take 2–3 mocks per week in the final 2 months. After every mock, analyse your errors by section and topic — then revise those topics specifically before the next mock. Do not take mocks without analysis; that is where most preparation value is lost.
Manage the Negative Marking Wisely
VITEEE has a −1 mark penalty for every wrong answer. Avoid random guessing. If you can eliminate two out of four options, attempting the question is generally worth it statistically (+4 for correct, −1 for wrong). If you cannot eliminate any options, skip the question. Attempting 100–110 questions accurately is better than attempting all 125 with significant errors.
Do Not Skip Aptitude and English
The Aptitude (10 questions) and English (5 questions) sections together carry 60 marks and take far less time than Physics or Mathematics. Practising basic reasoning, number series, and reading comprehension for 1–2 hours per week is enough. These are easy marks that many candidates leave on the table by skipping this section during preparation.
Preparation Timeline — July 2026 to April 2027
- July–September 2026: Complete Class 11 syllabus. Focus on Mechanics and Electrostatics (Physics), s/p Block and Thermodynamics (Chemistry), Algebra and Calculus basics (Mathematics).
- October–December 2026: Complete Class 12 syllabus. Begin mixed practice with previous year VITEEE questions topic by topic. Attempt the first full mock by November end.
- January–February 2027: Full syllabus revision — cover all chapters at least once. Increase mock frequency to 2 per week. Identify weak areas and revisit them.
- March–April 2027: Intensive mock practice and targeted revision. Practise Aptitude and English daily in this phase. Register for VITEEE 2027 when the window opens (expected October 2026).
FAQs on VITEEE 2026
Ques. What is the last date to pay the VITEEE 2026 balance fee for Phase 5?
Ans. The last date to pay the balance admission fee for VITEEE 2026 Phase 5 counselling is July 4, 2026. Phase 5 covers candidates with ranks above 1,00,000. The Phase 5 advance fee payment window already closed on June 21, 2026. If you have been allotted a seat in Phase 5, log in to ugresults.vit.ac.in, check the balance amount, and pay before July 4 to retain your seat. Missing this deadline will result in permanent cancellation of your allotted seat.
Ques. When was the VITEEE 2026 result declared?
Ans. VIT declared the VITEEE 2026 result on May 8, 2026. You can download your rank card and scorecard from viteee.vit.ac.in by logging in with your application number and password. The scorecard shows your normalised marks out of 500, your All India Rank, and the fee category (1 to 5) assigned to you based on rank.
Ques. What is the VITEEE 2026 exam pattern and marking scheme?
Ans. VITEEE 2026 had 125 multiple-choice questions across five sections — Physics (35), Chemistry (35), Mathematics or Biology (40), Aptitude (10), and English (5). The total marks were 500 (each question carries 4 marks). The marking scheme is +4 for correct and −1 for wrong. The exam duration was 2 hours 30 minutes in CBT mode. Do not randomly guess — negative marking applies.
Ques. What is the minimum score needed for CSE at VIT Vellore?
Ans. To get CSE at VIT Vellore in Category 1 (the lowest fee tier), you typically need a VITEEE score of 450 marks or above out of 500, which corresponds to a rank within approximately 1,000–1,100. For Category 2, a score of around 400–440 marks (rank up to 5,000) is generally sufficient. These are approximate figures based on 2024–2026 trends. Actual closing ranks are confirmed only after all counselling phases and balance fee payments are complete.
Ques. How many phases does VITEEE 2026 counselling have?
Ans. VITEEE 2026 counselling had 5 phases in total. Phase 1 covered ranks 1–20,000; Phase 2 covered 20,001–45,000; Phase 3 covered 45,001–70,000; Phase 4 covered 70,001–1,00,000; and Phase 5 covered ranks above 1,00,000. All five phases of seat allotment are now complete. The pending action is balance fee payment — July 1 for Phase 4 and July 4 for Phase 5.
Ques. Can candidates with ranks above 1 lakh get admission at VIT Vellore?
Ans. No. Candidates with a VITEEE rank above 1,00,000 are not eligible for VIT Vellore or VIT Chennai. They can participate in counselling only for VIT Bhopal and VIT Amaravati (AP), subject to seat availability in Phase 5. Seats at these two campuses in less competitive branches and higher fee categories are available for ranks beyond 1,00,000.
Ques. Does VIT release an official VITEEE answer key?
Ans. No. VIT does not release an official VITEEE answer key and does not have an objection window. Unlike NTA exams, VITEEE results are declared directly without a public answer key stage. Coaching institutes publish memory-based answer keys within 24–48 hours of each exam slot, which candidates use only for rough self-assessment — these are not official.
Ques. What is VIT’s category system and how does it affect fees?
Ans. VIT uses a 5-category fee system. For the same branch at the same campus, VIT offers seats in five different fee categories (Category 1 to Category 5). Category 1 has the lowest annual tuition fee and goes to candidates with the best VITEEE ranks. Category 5 has the highest fee. The branch, curriculum, faculty, and facilities are identical across all categories — only the annual fee amount differs. Your category is assigned automatically during counselling based on your rank and the choices you fill.
Ques. What is the eligibility for VITEEE 2026?
Ans. To be eligible for VITEEE 2026, you must have been born on or after July 1, 2004. You must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) or Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) as main subjects. The minimum aggregate in these subjects is 60% for General category candidates and 50% for SC/ST candidates and students from specified regions. Diploma holders and distance-mode Class 12 students are not eligible.
Ques. When does VITEEE 2027 registration start?
Ans. VIT typically opens VITEEE registrations in the last week of October each year. For VITEEE 2026, registrations opened on October 24, 2025. Following this pattern, VITEEE 2027 registration is expected to open around October 2026. The exam is likely to be conducted in late April or early May 2027. Keep checking viteee.vit.ac.in for the official announcement, which usually comes in September or October.
Ques. Which VIT campus is best — Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, or AP?
Ans. VIT Vellore is the flagship campus with the highest NIRF ranking, widest range of programmes, and strongest placement record. VIT Chennai is the second-most preferred campus because of its location in a major IT city. VIT Bhopal and VIT Amaravati (AP) are newer campuses that are growing rapidly in infrastructure and placements, and they are good options for candidates with ranks beyond 40,000–50,000. The right choice depends on your rank, the branch you want, and whether you prefer a metro city or a dedicated campus environment.
