What is BITSAT Iteration 2 Admission?

BITS Pilani conducts admissions in multiple iterations to fill all seats at its three campuses. In Iteration 1, students who submitted BITSAT scores and campus-branch preferences are offered seats based on their score and preference order. Those who accept are confirmed. Students who decline or do not respond release their allotted seat back into the pool for the next round.

Iteration 2 fills these vacated seats along with any other openings. Students on the waitlist or those with scores just below the Iteration 1 closing score for a preferred branch get a fresh opportunity. Because remaining vacancies are limited and some demand is already absorbed after Iteration 1, closing scores drop by roughly 10 marks. In some years a further Iteration 3 follows if seats remain vacant after Iteration 2.

Factors Affecting BITSAT 2026 Iteration 2 Cutoff

The actual Iteration 2 closing scores may differ from the expected ranges based on several variables:

  • Seats vacated after Iteration 1 — More students declining their Iteration 1 allotment means more seats open in Iteration 2, which generally pushes closing scores lower.
  • Overall difficulty of BITSAT 2026 — A tougher paper shifts the score distribution down and reduces cutoffs across the board.
  • Total number of BITSAT 2026 scorers — A larger applicant pool concentrated at the high end of the score range keeps cutoffs elevated even in later iterations.
  • Branch upgrade patterns — Students upgrading from a lower-preference branch release those seats and increase competition at the branch they move into.
  • Merit-only admissions — BITS Pilani does not follow government reservation norms for domestic B.E. and M.Sc. admissions. All seats across all three campuses are filled purely on BITSAT score merit, which concentrates demand at the top of the score range.
