When to Choose Freeze

Freeze is the right call when you are fully satisfied with your current allotment and have no interest in any further change. Select Freeze if:

• You have been allotted your first-preference programme at your first-preference campus — for example, B.E. Computer Science at BITS Pilani.
• You are in the final or penultimate iteration and historical patterns suggest very little seat movement remains.
• You have a competing offer from another institution with an approaching acceptance deadline and need immediate certainty about your BITS seat.
• Fee payment and document submission are already complete and the administrative disruption of a seat change outweighs any potential gain.

Freeze is irreversible. Once you select it, you will not appear in any subsequent iteration. Verify carefully that your current programme and campus match your genuine first preference before selecting Freeze — the decision cannot be undone.

• Your current allotment is not your top choice and you would be equally happy at any BITS campus if the programme is better.
• Example: you have B.E. Electrical Engineering at BITS Hyderabad but prefer B.E. Computer Science at BITS Goa or BITS Pilani — Float keeps all those upgrades in play simultaneously.
• You are in an early or mid-stage iteration where data from previous years suggests meaningful seat movement is still ahead.
• Programme or branch priority outweighs campus location in your decision.

When an upgrade becomes available, your new seat is automatically assigned and your previous seat is released to the next student on the merit list. You then choose Freeze, Float, or Slide again in the following iteration. At no point are you left without a seat during this process.

Slide is a more targeted upgrade strategy for students with a strong campus preference. Choose Slide when:

• You are satisfied with your current BITS campus but want a better programme within it — for example, moving from B.E. Mechanical Engineering to B.E. Computer Science at BITS Goa.
• Geography, family proximity, or campus-specific facilities make your current campus non-negotiable.
• You do not want to risk being moved to a different campus, even for a programme ranked higher in your preference list.

Slide gives you upgrade potential with zero campus risk. The worst outcome is that no better seat opens at your campus in the next iteration and you simply retain your existing allotment. If there is any chance of a programme upgrade at your campus that you would welcome, Slide is always preferable to Freeze.
