JBIMS Mumbai Admissions: Students' Opinion

  • MHRD

AI-Generated Summary based on 26 Reviews

The JBIMS MHRD admission process for 2023-25 comprised two primary stages: the qualifying exam and the GDPI WAT. Candidates were shortlisted based on their performance in CAT, MAHCET, or the optional JBIMS entrance test. A score of at least 90 percentile in CET and 85 percentile in CAT was generally expected for general category applicants. An additional eligibility criterion was maintaining at least 60% in undergraduate education, while some noted a requirement for maintaining 55% in Class 10 and 12.

The process initially involved shortlisting around 300 candidates for 30 seats based on entrance exam scores. The college emphasized decision-making, quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, and general knowledge in the examination. The second stage involved writing a 300-word Statement of Purpose (SOP), followed by a group discussion and personal interview, held in-person over one or two days, depending on scheduling. The admission process was streamlined, with results released a week after assessments.

Final selections were determined by combining entrance exam scores and GDPI WAT performance. Candidates were encouraged to practice previous years' papers to prepare for entrance tests. Information about the admission process, fees, and application timelines (typically April-May) was readily available on the JBIMS website. The application fee is Rs. 1000 or Rs. 1500, and reservation policies are in line with Mumbai University's criteria. Suggestions from reviews emphasized a desire for transparent shortlisting processes and the introduction of additional assessment formats, like extempore speeches or case studies, to evaluate communication and critical thinking abilities.

Admission:

Msc Finance at JBIMS considers MAH-MBA-CET, CAT scores for shortlisting. Otherthan above mentioned exams if one has cleared UPSC CSE Mains exam can also apply for MSc Finance. For shortlisting open candidates 97 percentile is a minimum requirement. After one gets shortlisted there is a WAT round where one has to write an essay of 300 words in 10 minutes. Next round is of GD (Group discussion) where around 12 candidates are formed in a group and one topic is given to have discussion which lasts usually for around 30 minutes, the final round is of PI (personal interview) here industry experts are at interview panel, they go through your resume and asks relative questions about finance and economics.

This test is easy when one has the kanck for HR. -After the written test there is 300 word SOP round and GDPI for selection rounds which are quite rigorous.

Are less than 60 btech graduates given admission in FMS Delhi,XLRI.XIM and JBIMS Mumbai?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

FMS Delhi, XLRI, XIMB, and JBIMS are all highly regarded B-schools in India that offer postgraduate management programs. As these programs are PG courses so they require candidates to have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university.

The number of seats and admission criteria for these programs may vary from year to year and depend on factors such as the number of applicants, the performance of the applicants in entrance exams, and the selection process of each institution. Below is a table of batch sizes of all these colleges;

Institution

Program

Approximate Batch Size

FMS Delhi

MBA

200

XLRI

PGDM

360

XIMB

MBA

360

JBIMS Mumbai

MMS

120

Although all these institutes try to keep the batch as diverse as possible still the ratio of B.Tech and non-B.Tech is highly skewed towards B.Tech. So, it is unlikely that less than 60 B.Tech graduates are admitted to these institutions. These institutions typically have a rigorous selection process, and the number of seats available is usually limited.

However, the exact number of B.Tech graduates admitted to these institutions may vary depending on the specific program and admission cycle.

How many seats are there for the NRI quota at JBIMS?

Manyata JhaStudied at JBIMS

Only 18 seats are allotted for CIWGC/OCI/PIO and NRI applicants. If you have a first-degree sponsor, you are entitled to apply for the JBIMS under the NRI category.

Every category is unique. Simply register for the CAP round, followed by DTE in your category, then wait for the list. After registering, you must validate your documentation. You must pay the fees after receiving your seat.

JBIMS has also said that "for NRI/FN and PIO students, the fee will be charged twice the amount of fee for General Students, i.e. INR 6 lakhs p.a." It indicates that the two-year MMS program fee for NRI/FN and PIO students would be raised to Rs. 12 lakhs.

Admission Process

Students must have a minimum of 50% overall, and they must be graduates from a recognized institute in any discipline. How do I get into the colleges specifically JBIMS (Mumbai) and PUMBA (Pune) for MBA?

Vinisha Vasudevan
Advait JoshiLives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

JBIMS and PUMBA are one of the top MBA colleges in Maharashtra. The national-level entrance exams accepted at JBIMS for admission are MAHCET, CMAT, CAT, and GMAT.

In addition to this, the college also considers the Common Entrance Test/ CET/ PET/ NET/ SET/ GRF for admission to different courses followed by Group Discussion and Personal Rounds for the final selection of students.

While the Department of Management Sciences (PUMBA), Savitribai Phule Pune University offers a number of full-time UG, PG and doctoral-level courses in the field of Management. Known for its flagship two-year full time MBA programme, this department also offers a two-year E-MBA and MBA Pharma Biotech at PG level.

What is the objective of admitting freshers in Ivy B-Schools like IIMs, FMS, JBIMS, SIMSREE, SPJIMR, XLRI, etc.??

Sandeep BiswasGMP International Management, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (2018)

MBA admission in Indian B Schools is a fairly weird process in comparison to that of foreign B Schools. In India, the admission process requires a candidate to have some work experience and in certain B-schools, it even carries a certain weightage. But during Final Placements, this scenario changes entirely as the recruiters prefer freshers over experienced candidates. The major reasons for this contrast are:

  • The recruiters offering Marketing roles are on the lookout for candidates who can initially go through a sales job for a few years. They believe that the route to Marketing is through sales only. Now Sales requires a lot of traveling that too to rural areas. The recruiters know that these tough job conditions cannot be undertaken by Experienced professionals and thus prefer freshers who they can mold easily.
  • The companies offering Finance roles know that the candidates with prior work experience won’t be working for the long hours they require them to. So they prefer freshers who can work long hours without complaining.

Recruiters are looking for candidates with work experience of not more than 11-12 months. Honestly, this strategy is illogical as a person with more work experience is bound to excel much better than a fresher, and restricting him from getting a job just because they cannot be exploited to the fullest extent is a bit cruel.

The scenario is pretty much the opposite in foreign countries that prefer MBA candidates with work experience only. This is because in India MBA is considered a way to become more employable or earn a fatter cheque. Whereas in the West, it is a means to upgrade your career and take it to new heights. The entire concept of MBA is at fault in India thereby this illogical strategy.

In my opinion, MBA candidates should have a work experience of at least 1 year, only then they can harness the MBA program to the fullest and not approach it just as a source of placements.

How do I get into JBIMS through the NRI quota?

Sidhharth JainEducation Consultant

In order to be eligible for JBIMS, you must have one blood relative who is an NRI. You will have to appear for the MH-CET exam. JBIMS does not have a GDPI round as the admission process is conducted through a Centralized Admission Process (CAP) round. JBIMS is considered one of the top-ranked business schools in India and is affiliated with the University of Mumbai.

The average placement at JBIMS last year was 27.63 LPA, with the highest being 42 LPA. JBIMS is sometimes referred to as the "factory of CEOs." The team will guide you based on your profile to help secure a confirmed admission at JBIMS or other top business schools in India that fit your budget.

If you don't want to waste a year, it is recommended to approach the team immediately to start the admission process for JBIMS. If you would like more information about the admission process or references from students admitted to JBIMS through the team last year, feel free to ask at any time. Will I be eligible for an MBA in A grade B schools like IIMs XLRI, NMIMS, JBIMS, etc., with scores of 90.6 in the 10th standard and 70 in the 12th standard?

Pratyasha
Jayant ThakurStudied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

As a candidate with a lower academic performance in the past, you are eligible for most of the business schools, except for a few, such as the Indian Institutes of Management in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, and Lucknow, which place a greater emphasis on previous academic records. However, XLRI is good news for you, as it does not consider your previous academics when shortlisting candidates. Additionally, SPJain may consider extending you a profile-based admission offer if your CAT score is at least 85 or higher and you have something unique in your profile. Other top business schools, such as NITIE Mumbai, MDI, and NMIMS, are easily within reach for you.

It is recommended that you focus on making the most of your current educational journey and not let your past academic performance impact your future opportunities. Aim to prepare well for the CAT exam, aiming for a top score, and accumulate as many quality resume points as possible to develop a unique and impressive profile for yourself. However, do not forget to live the life of an engineer, taking full advantage of your education. If you gain at least 2 years of work experience, you may consider taking the GMAT and applying to the Indian School of Business, which may consider extending you an admission offer.

Is there any age limit to join MMS Program in JBIMS?

Yash ChandraMBA from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Graduated 2011)

There is no age limit for joining an MBA program in India. However, it is common for most students in the program to be in the 21 to 25 age group, with 0 to 4 years of work experience.

It is important to note that some companies may have specific work experience requirements for the profiles they are looking to fill. If you have more than 2 years of work experience and the company is looking for a fresher, you may not be selected. The same could apply to freshers who apply for roles where the company is looking for candidates with prior work experience.

Regardless of your age, you are eligible to apply for or join an MBA program. For individuals with 5 or more years of work experience, a full-time MBA in India may not be a financially viable option. In such cases, you could consider enrolling in an executive program or pursuing a full-time MBA abroad.

The decision of whether to pursue an MBA and which program to choose should be based on your specific career goals and objectives.

Can students outside Maharashtra get into JBIMS?

Mahima SethiMBA from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Graduated 2011)

Admission to JBIMS can be gained through two methods: Direct admission based on written scores in CET and other All India entrance tests, or shortlisting based on CAT/CET scores and GD-PI.

For the Direct admission method, 15% of the total intake will be set aside for All India seats. This includes seats for Maharashtra residents, as well as a maximum of 18 seats for students from outside of Maharashtra. The cutoff for these seats is generally a score of 99.98 or higher in any of the entrance tests, such as CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA, or CET. Additionally, there are 2 seats set aside for students from Jammu and Kashmir, which are not counted among the 18 outside Maharashtra seats.

For the Shortlisting method, there is no fixed quota. Students with a score of 99 percentile or higher, a good profile, and successful performance in the GDPI can be admitted. When this method was followed in the past, students with scores as low as 97 percentile received calls, but most admitted students had scores of 98.8 or higher in CET or CAT. This method promotes diversity and fairness, but the method used for admission is ultimately up to the discretion of the institute.

In conclusion, students from outside of Maharashtra can get into JBIMS as long as they have a strong written score and perform well in the selection process.
