We have a scholarship named the Dean's Merit Scholarship and we will get 2500 USD Per semester under this scholarship.
The eligibility criteria is for the first semester u will get automatically after that we need to maintain 3.0 Cumulative GPA Out of 4.0 GPA. If we meet this criteria then everyone will receive this scholarship. Other than this we don‘t have any other scholarships

I will prefer off campus accommodation than on campus as it is cheaper than on campus the average rent is 300 USD per person for a month there will be a bedroom,hall, kitchen, bathroom the rooms are quite spacious.
There will be many apps to find accommodation like zillow etc: there are many whatsapp group where students can post about the vacancies in their houses so we can find one of then mostly all student housing areas are with in a range of 2 miles there will be different buses to travel to college which will take around 10 to 15 minutes

Looking back at my days at SUNY Albany

Likes

On campus opportunities made it easier to make a living & sustain
Easier to make Indian friends since a majority of the student population is Indian
Easy commute, the bus travel is super efficient

Dislikes

Hard to get exposure since a majority Indian population means less exposure to people from other countries & cultures
The town itself can get a little lonely and not much to do here.
Once you get work on campus, it’s good but it’s difficult to get in there.

Facebook Marketplace is the best place to go for finding accommodation. Apps like Zillow are also really good.
Some challenges include finding good roommates so make sure you choose wisely.
Also finding a decent space with proximity to a bus that goes to the campus.
These points are really important to be aware of.

Suny albany is a great place to be for a masters student, you get to do lots of fun stuff
The city albany is a peaceful city, it is very calm
For a graduate student it is very hard to sustain and survive, University at Albany will give you groceries and food items every month for free

Dislikes

The course curriculum is little different here, you can only choose electives from few options
It is really cold here.
You get less time to participate in college activities

Scholarship

Yes i did receive a scholarship of 2500 dollars per semester and it is based on your previous degree score and merit.
Once you upload your transcript and you will receive a mail regarding you scholarship and you can decide weather to accept or reject in 30 days of your application.
After the scholarship you got to pay 8,500 dollars per semester.
For data science you have to complete 36 credits in total.

Planned on finding off-campus accommodation; searched through Telegram and WhatsApp SUNY Albany student groups, then asked among seniors. This ranges from anywhere between 400 to 800 bucks a month, depending on shared utilities: water, electricity, heat were inclusive.
My accommodation was approximately 1.5 miles off-campus, travel taking anything up to 10 to 15 minutes using a bus.
The biggest challenge, being an international student, was understanding lease agreements, but early planning and seniors' help got me a good place. Most Indian students stay around Western Avenue or Washington Avenue; these are quite popular for affordability and convenience

I had received Dean's merit Award which was $2500 every year. I believe the criteria was our overall profile and our work experience. Around 25% students from my batch had gotten it.
Teaching assistants and graduate assistants were chosen from those who had gotten the dean's merit award. The amount of the award was taken under counting before semester starts.

I was living off campus with my Indian classmates. We had met each other through a Facebook group. monthly rent was $350-$400. My place was 15 minutes away from the university.
It was easily accessible by buses. My place had 2 bus stops near it.
It was within 2 minutes walking distance. I would suggest students find a place with a bus stop nearby. As all apartments are almost the same with all the amenities, including washing machines, dryers, ovens, microwaves, AC, or radiators.

University at Albany - The good and the bad

Likes

The first reason was the course that explores both Digital Forensics and Cyber Security. And the university will allow us to complete masters degree in a year If I'm willing to. And the professors here in Cyber Security has greater experience and knowledge in the topics I'm interested in. Few topics like Incident Response, Penetration Testing, Risk Analysis, Computer Forensics etc.
This university is known for its excellence in research facilities. The location was very well suited to find great opportunities. Major cities like New York city, Boston,
Buffalo are within 3 hours distance so finding a good company to get an internship and job was much easier. The university also has great infrastructure and facilities that anything I wanted to learn or create, the required help is already present in terms of faculty, staff and labs.

I am a NYS resident and the program was good. Thus, I would get a degree without breaking the bank.
University at Albany, SUNY is a diverse university which has students from various countries. Thus, one can expect to work with students from various different backgrounds. This brings about varying point of views especially into class discussions.

Dislikes

Sometimes, there is lack of planning in terms of classes and advisor guidance. I chose a class for this semester about 2-3 months ago and had to switch classes in the 1st week of the semester due to redundancy in subject selection.

Scholarship

I have received $1000 per semester as a Dean's grant, which adds up to $4000 for the whole course.

Getting placements is based on how much work you are willing to put into landing a job. The college can help you via career fairs and opportunities to get the employer to the college so that you can have a chance to network, but at the end of the day, it is completely dependent on you whether you land a job or not.
