What Students Say
Likes
- I am a NYS resident and the program was good. Thus, I would get a degree without breaking the bank.
- University at Albany, SUNY is a diverse university which has students from various countries. Thus, one can expect to work with students from various different backgrounds. This brings about varying point of views especially into class discussions.
Dislikes
- Sometimes, there is lack of planning in terms of classes and advisor guidance. I chose a class for this semester about 2-3 months ago and had to switch classes in the 1st week of the semester due to redundancy in subject selection.
Getting placements is based on how much work you are willing to put into landing a job. The college can help you via career fairs and opportunities to get the employer to the college so that you can have a chance to network, but at the end of the day, it is completely dependent on you whether you land a job or not.
Course Curriculum
The course curriculum and academics are manageable for me. It's heavily dependent on team work and presentations. The 4th semester comprises of an Externship whereby the students get real life experience working for a real, local company to build upon practical skills.
Faculty
The faculty seem to be dignified and qualified to teach the classes.
Campus Life
Campus life is eminent with lots of clubs and activities. I don't really have time to attend with my classes and part time work. There are infrastructure events and extracurricular activities about which every student is emailed weekly.
Placement
I believe that currently, there is a scarcity of employers looking to sponsor international candidates. Thus, it might be hard. I'm not sure how the college can help regarding that.
Accommodation
I live off campus. I pay $1100 for rent per month. Students who would like to have roommates can find accommodation from about $500 per month. If utilities are included, it may be a bit more, but still will be less than $1000 per month. Always look for heating included because heating charges during winter can cost a lot.
Exams
I am a US citizen. Thus, they waived IELTS. In the year that I took the MBA course, due to Covid, there was a waiver of GMAT scores. My college didn't use GPA. I studied in US. I didn't take any standardized exams. I submitted an SOP, CV and 3 LORs. I didn't have an interview. I studied in India for my undergrad and was required to send the original transcripts directly from my university to SUNY Albany. I mentioned about my passion and dedication to find a career as a data analyst in my SOP. I highlighted any such related experiences that I had in my CV (which wasn't much). Thus, I focused on leadership skills on my resume.
Fees
I am a NY resident and I pay $8,687.50 per semester, which is $1,187.50 per credit. An international student will have to pay $13,627.50 per semester, which is $27,255 for 2 semesters with all additional fees included.
Scholarship
I have received $1000 per semester as a Dean's grant, which adds up to $4000 for the whole course.
