What Students Say
Likes
- On campus opportunities made it easier to make a living & sustain
- Easier to make Indian friends since a majority of the student population is Indian
- Easy commute, the bus travel is super efficient
Dislikes
- Hard to get exposure since a majority Indian population means less exposure to people from other countries & cultures
- The town itself can get a little lonely and not much to do here.
- Once you get work on campus, it’s good but it’s difficult to get in there.
Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- Location, cost, & faculty were the three biggest factors for me.
- So I chose this college to be in New York & go to a nice reputable school with good faculty and still not spend as much as I would at a school like NYU.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- My shortcoming was the lack of preparation for the application.
- One could definitely crack it if they give it enough time & attention to detail. But no regrets; I believe the faculty is a more important factor than the university’s name.

Tips to enhance your application
- A good LOR from your existing academic faculty & a clear no-gibberish SOP would definitely help you.
- A good GRE & IELTS score would help you land employment before you even come here & may also help you increase your scholarship amount.
- If you are coming for your masters, be sure to include undergrad courses that you did in India so that you don’t have to repeat them in your masters.
Admission Experience
- I always had the USA in my mind growing up because of the opportunities available in tech.
- The academic ranking, location, & faculty that this university offers make it a pretty good choice.
- I got in touch with a few seniors and received good feedback on the opportunities that come out of this place. Couldn’t complain about the academics; it was both competent & competitive.
- A lot of extracurricular activities and on-campus employment opportunities as well.
Class Schedule
- It depends on your choice of classes but for a master’s, it’s not very hectic and you will at most have classes on 3 days in a week if you plan it well.
- 1 class is 1 hour 20 minutes and the class timings can be any time starting from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm.
- It really comes down to what courses you choose and which professor you take it under. So all in all, freedom to choose is there.
Faculty
- Amazing faculty. Especially the Computer Science department. Always open to questions and really approachable.
- Amazing professors with really good knowledge of their respective subjects.
- Faculties can, in some cases, be beneficial for landing a teaching assistantship if you maintain a good reputation in the class and a good relationship with them.
Campus Life
- It’s a huge campus. With every facility you can possibly need, ranging from a gym to running tracks to a library to a clinic & a food court. No complaints there.
- Uptown campus is amazing, a lot of places to explore. Includes nature too. A huge number of clubs to be a part of, including an Indian student organisation, running club, photography club, and hiking/trekking club.
Part Time Jobs
- Dining is where most Indian students work,’ i.e., Sodexo. They pay you around $15/hr at 20 hrs/week.
- It’s not very difficult, you just need to be aware of the applications being posted around campus.
- Sometimes they put it on the campus job postings website or sometimes you can catch a flyer with information on it.
- TA roles are not as easy to land as other roles, such as dining. But it is definitely possible if you maintain good contacts and reach out to relevant people in your department.
- They pay your tuition fee for the semester and pay you $20/hour at a fixed 20 hrs/week. It’s the best on-campus employment if you can land it.
Placement
- There are quite a lot of full-time job opportunities for students after graduation with degrees in cybersecurity, software engineering, & related fields.
- 80-90% of people are able to land a good job. The average package lies between $80k to $120k which is quite competent.
- Typically, people find jobs through faculty connections, linkedin or the campus fairs.
Accommodation
- Facebook Marketplace is the best place to go for finding accommodation. Apps like Zillow are also really good.
- Some challenges include finding good roommates so make sure you choose wisely.
- Also finding a decent space with proximity to a bus that goes to the campus.
- These points are really important to be aware of.
