- While there are numerous aspects I adore about the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I must acknowledge a few challenges that have impacted my experience. One notable factor is the weather, particularly during the winters. The extreme cold temperatures can be quite daunting, and the shorter days with early sunsets sometimes give a feeling of melancholy. The university occasionally closes early due to inclement weather, which can disrupt schedules and affect productivity. Nevertheless, it's an opportunity to embrace the beauty of winter and indulge in cozy campus activities like hot cocoa gatherings or winter festivals.
- Another aspect that can pose difficulties is the course enrollment process. Being a public university, there is high demand for popular classes, and they tend to fill up quickly. This can occasionally result in challenges in securing all the desired courses, which may require careful planning and flexibility to create an optimal degree plan. However, the university's academic advisors and support services are available to assist in navigating these situations and finding alternative solutions.
- Additionally, the cost of living in Madison, including rental prices, can be quite high. This financial aspect can create some struggles for students, including myself, at times. However, it's important to note that the university offers various resources such as financial aid, scholarships, and part-time job opportunities to help alleviate these challenges. Exploring cost-saving measures, such as shared housing or seeking affordable off-campus options, can also contribute to managing expenses effectively.

Academically, I have been exposed to a wealth of knowledge and have had the opportunity to learn from esteemed professors who are experts in their fields. The university's rigorous academic programs have challenged me to think critically, expand my intellectual horizons, and develop valuable problem-solving skills. Beyond the classroom, I have grown tremendously as an individual. Moving to a new country and navigating the challenges of living independently has allowed me to develop resilience, adaptability, and self-reliance. The university's diverse community has provided a supportive and inclusive environment that has made the transition smoother, and I have formed meaningful connections with fellow students from all walks of life. One aspect I particularly treasure is the friendships I have forged. The university fosters a sense of camaraderie, and I have met incredible individuals who share my interests and passions. Collaborating on projects, engaging in stimulating discussions, and simply enjoying each other's company has enriched my experience and made my time at the university truly memorable. Moreover, I have had the opportunity to immerse myself in my passions. Whether it's participating in student organizations, joining clubs, or attending cultural events, the university offers a myriad of opportunities to pursue my interests. This has not only allowed me to engage in activities I am passionate about but has also broadened my perspective by exposing me to different cultures, traditions, and viewpoints. I wanted to major in computer science and out of all the universities that I had gotten into, UW-Madison had the highest ranking (around 11th position in the US) in comp sci. Furthermore, this university has a major focus and offers great opportunities in sports, which I wanted to continue pursuing from high school.
I got a full ride scholarship to the college and it had the major of my choice so it was a perfect fit for me. It was also in my home state.
Yes, I wanted to go to this school because it was my top choice. I liked the program that was offered there as well as all the research opportunities. It was also the main school in my state so that is another reason why I chose it.
It was affordable but also a great school. It is also only a 4-5 hour drive from my hometown. The medical and pre-medical programs at this school are top class. This school is also one of the leading research institutions.
Madison is a beautiful city and the perfect college town. The university is in a great location as it surrounded by two beautiful lakes. The school itself has very high standards and offers a wonderful education to students through their wonderful faculty
Great reputation and cost. I was so impressed by how kind and welcoming the faculty were when I went to visit and this held true to all the great things I had heard about UW?s strong support system. I received a great funding package as well.
