Dislikes:

  • Community- Personally, I would have liked more outreach support .
  • Segregation fees- In spite of having a stipend, we had to pay segregation fees which can be financially demanding .

Students have the liberty to choose courses as per their requirements. My research was in the field of smart manufacturing and I had an interest in biomechanics. I was able to find the right courses to meet my needs. There were courses that gave us both industrial and research exposure through field visits and guest lectures.

Fees

Without funding the amount per year would be $43265.

  • Cold - it gets really unbearable during the winters .
  • Lack of affordable grocery stores nearby .
  • Limited buses at night time, that is after 8pm .
  • Limited Sunlight during winters .

Dislikes:

  • I hate the location as there is nothing to do apart from the campus life as Madison is a very small city. The winters in Madison are brutal and being from a city where it never snows it is tough to manage. null

I am a freshmen so there hasn't been much industrial exposure yet but the course syllabus is pretty updated.

Dislikes:

  • Weather is not very friendly but is manageable with the right set of clothes. All graduate level courses require you to read research papers on a regular basis and the projects will also be research centered. It will be difficult at first but you’ll soon get used to it. null

Coursework is very good, you’ll get the opportunity to learn from professors working on cutting edge research. ESP good for computer architecture. Plenty of opportunities for research, you can email professors and talk to them about your interests.

Fees

Tuition is ~$1200 per credit. Total would be around 40000 - 45000 with insurance. Cost of living depends on your lifestyle but you can get apartments with a private room for <$700.

Dislikes:

  • There is nothing that I dislike about the university but the climate of Madison might be a deterrent for potential admits. It is quite random in the early summer months and gets very cold in the winter. null

The course curriculum is quite comprehensive and is up to date with what is expected in the industry!

Fees

The Estimated Tuition for an MS in Data Science is 46000 USD with additional charges towards Student Health Insurance.

Dislikes:

  • While there are numerous aspects I adore about the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I must acknowledge a few challenges that have impacted my experience. One notable factor is the weather, particularly during the winters. The extreme cold temperatures can be quite daunting, and the shorter days with early sunsets sometimes give a feeling of melancholy. The university occasionally closes early due to inclement weather, which can disrupt schedules and affect productivity. Nevertheless, it's an opportunity to embrace the beauty of winter and indulge in cozy campus activities like hot cocoa gatherings or winter festivals. null
  • Another aspect that can pose difficulties is the course enrollment process. Being a public university, there is high demand for popular classes, and they tend to fill up quickly. This can occasionally result in challenges in securing all the desired courses, which may require careful planning and flexibility to create an optimal degree plan. However, the university's academic advisors and support services are available to assist in navigating these situations and finding alternative solutions. null
  • Additionally, the cost of living in Madison, including rental prices, can be quite high. This financial aspect can create some struggles for students, including myself, at times. However, it's important to note that the university offers various resources such as financial aid, scholarships, and part-time job opportunities to help alleviate these challenges. Exploring cost-saving measures, such as shared housing or seeking affordable off-campus options, can also contribute to managing expenses effectively. null

The syllabus is good and well researched and the classes are made in such a way that one class compliments the other class and I say this because any class you take will have some knowledge from the previous class you took which will surely help you build up your base , for CS they have good structured classes with CS 200 that teaches you the basics of java then CS 300 that uses the basics to build on object oriented programming then CS 400 where real world scenarios are tested and then the specialization classes after you have a basic idea of the classes you have already taken , they also give research opportunities that helps a lot in learning and understanding stuff under the CS department which is generally paid and also get credit for the same.

the course initially seems very difficult but can be done. In this University they have a criteria of doing a language course, a human science course, and ethics course which helps student think outside the box and also pursue your own interests. The main idea for the university depends mainly on independent work until and unless they ask you to interact and work as a team.

The university is very highly ranked and has over 99% placement, Also it has always been my dream to study in the US and I worked really for it. I think I made the right decision about the University. Also they have a very supporting staff, very helpful when in times of need
