  • Too ambitious, I had a bachelor's degree in computer science, which made it difficult to get into the mathematics department.
  • Other colleges took my background and informal education in mathematics not that seriously, which hurt my chances.

  • USA has some of the best Mathematics program. Highly reputed Mathematics department,
  • It is highly ranked in the top 10 mathematics programmes which includes: analytical, computational, probability, and model theory
  • Career opportunities: really good alumni network.
  • All big companies hire from the university. Academics and peer groups are amazing.
  • Lots of clubs and departments, including the Astro Club, amazing student life, and teaching opportunities in Madison, Wisconsin.

  • Class timings : Flexible; depends on class and section selection
  • Average strength: Mathematics graduate courses 40-60 per section per course
  • Indians: 2-5 per class
  • Self-study: 40-50 hrs/week, very demanding workload, some of the assignments requires a lot of efforts

  • The faculty-to-student ratio at the UW Madison Mathematics program is pretty good; all the courses are offered as long as there are 7-10 students in a course.

  • Campus: 3 great libraries, Memorial Library and College Library, are the best I found. Also, for Mathematics, Physics, and Astronomy, the AMP library is good.
  • Sports :  Lots of facilities and opportunities for casual, professional participation
  • Medical : Wisconsin Medical college
  • Campus : University of Wisconsin-Madison Fests,
  • Clubs: Astronomy club, Indian Association, Diwali, Holi nights
  • Extracurricular: Stargazing, Mathematics festival, Putnam competition brainstorming

Part Time Jobs

  • Teaching: $60/hr, grading : $15-20/hr Not that difficult to get TA/RA if you start early and can prove your potential.
  • Reach out to people managing these programs and apply for multiple positions; fill out priority.
  • PhD students usually get teaching positions first, then master's, then undergraduate.
  • TA/RA : 70% in the Mathematics department; usually, you have to apply for the TA position and they assign you to one of the courses.
  • You have to teach discussion sections for 2 sections and be part of lecture problem-solving along with grading and monitoring during exams. on-campus jobs in Library, cafe, student unions, and part-time teaching 20 hrs per week max allowed per student

  • I applied for industry and there were 10-20% of students who went to big tech companies or hedge funds, HFTs.
