University of Louisville Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
The Graduate School sets baseline requirements; departments layer standardised-test and GPA thresholds on top.
- PG academic: Four-year bachelor’s degree with minimum 60% aggregate or CGPA 6.0/10 (recommended); Speed School programmes prefer 65% or higher.
- English: TOEFL iBT 4.0 (1-6 scale) / 79 (0-120 legacy scale) with 4.0 in each skill, IELTS 6.5 (5.0 in sub-scores), PTE 55 (53 in sub-scores) or Duolingo 105.
- Credential Verification: Mandatory course-by-course evaluation by a NACES or AICE member (WES, ECE, SpanTran accepted).
- GRE/GMAT: GRE waived at most Speed School departments; GMAT waived for MBA applicants with 5+ years experience or GPA above 3.2.
UG academic: Class 12 with 70% to 85% depending on programme (recommended); CBSE, ICSE and State Board qualifications recognised. Language minimums match the PG scale.
Key insight: UofL waives English tests for Indian applicants who hold a bachelor’s from an accredited institution where the medium of instruction was English, provided the transcript states the medium explicitly.
University of Louisville Acceptance Rate 2027
UofL admits roughly 81.4% (estimated) of undergraduate applicants, placing it among the more accessible public research universities in the USA. Graduate acceptance varies sharply by department, with Speed School MS programmes admitting a smaller share of international applicants.
| Year | Acceptance Rate | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 81.4% (estimated) | Increasing |
| 2025 | 80.4% (estimated) | Stable |
The rate reflects total applicant volume rather than international-specific selectivity. Indian graduate applicants at Speed School typically face 30% to 40% programme-level admit rates.
Reality check: The high overall rate is misleading for Indian PG applicants; funded graduate assistantships across Engineering and Business remain competitive, admitting fewer than 15% of international applicants who apply for TA/RA positions.

University of Louisville Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
UofL Career Services reports strong placement across Speed School and College of Business graduate cohorts, anchored by Louisville-headquartered employers.
- Speed School PG Placement Rate: 92% within 6 months (last cohort)
- Median MS Starting Salary: USD 70,000 (INR 66.98 lakh), market median for USA mid-tier public MS graduates
- MBA Median Post-graduation Salary: USD 85,000 (INR 81.33 lakh)
- Top Recruiters: UPS, Humana, Ford Motor Company, GE Appliances, Yum! Brands, Papa John’s, Brown-Forman (representative Louisville-area employers)
- OPT/STEM extension: Speed School MS programmes and MS Business Analytics qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving Indian graduates 36 months of US work authorisation
Insider note: Louisville’s status as a UPS Worldport hub and Humana headquarters gives supply-chain, analytics and health-tech MS graduates an accessible on-campus pipeline that Indian students in metropolitan campuses often lack.
University of Louisville vs Peer Universities
UofL competes with mid-ranked US public research universities across the Southeast and Midwest that Indian applicants shortlist for affordability and STEM OPT access.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD/INR) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| University of Louisville | #1001-1200 | 41,496 (INR 39.7 lakh) | UPS Worldport and Humana access |
| University of Kentucky | #801-850 | 36,000 (INR 34.4 lakh) | Larger state flagship, stronger research |
| University of Cincinnati | #651-660 | 45,000 (INR 43.1 lakh) | Co-op programme integration |
| Indiana University Bloomington | #358 | 44,000 (INR 42.1 lakh) | Kelley MBA prestige |
| University of Missouri | #601-610 | 32,000 (INR 30.6 lakh) | Lower non-resident tuition |
UofL stands out for its lower fixed-fee MS Business Analytics programme and direct pipeline to Louisville-headquartered Fortune 500 employers. The city’s below-national-average living costs stretch student budgets further than nominally cheaper peers in higher cost-of-living markets.
UofL fits Indian applicants seeking a Speed School MS or College of Business MBA with total investment under INR 50 lakh and clear USA study pathway to a Southeast US employer. The USD 70,000 median MS starting salary recovers total investment inside 12 to 18 months of post-STEM OPT employment.
UofL is not the right pick for applicants targeting Tier-1 QS-ranked institutions or coastal tech hubs. Consider University of Cincinnati or Indiana University Bloomington for higher brand recognition, or Arizona State University for a comparable-cost alternative with a larger Indian student community.
University of Louisville FAQs

Ans. The University of Louisville waives IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and Duolingo requirements for Indian applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution where English was the official medium of instruction. - The research work that my advisor is currently involved in.
- Equal focus on coursework and research.
- The professors teaching core courses are amazing.
Dislikes
- We need more Astronomy professors and core Astronomy courses.
- Qualifier exams should be waived off but here it is given a lot of importance. Everything else about University of Louisville seems great!
Campus Life
- I have never counted but this entire city is a campus. There's healthcare campus, engineering campus, Natural science, life science etc.
- Library, 10 stadiums (including hockey, football and tennis courts), there's a gym with basketball, badminton court and indoor track field.
- Medical stations are in almost every building.
Fees
- I have received a full scholarship and a Teaching assistant position that is paid.
- From what I know, fee system at UofL is semester based. Monthly expense adds upto around $700-$1000 if you live frugally (including rent and groceries - Bus transportation is free for students).
- I am not sure about Master's and bachelor's tuition cost but I think for Master's it should be somewhere around $46k - $55k a year.

Likes
- Strong focus on research - R1 categorized with great labs
- Seniority level of Professors - Quite professional and knowledgeable
- Lively campus - 287 acres of campus with amazing urban greeneries and properly planned land use area
Dislikes
- Campus is split in two parts, medical college being in downtown is not regarded as safe enough
- Frequent car break-ins around the university
- Regular renovation works going on
Campus Life
-
Two campuses.
1. Health science campus, Downtown, Louisville
2. Main campus, 4th Street, Louisville -
All facilities such as Student Activity Center, Student Recreational Center, Emergency room, Sports arena, Football Stadium, etc
-
There are events going on everyday at some place or another on the campus, from free food to free stuff to a whole lot is going on everyday during the working days of semester. There is also an international student event every Friday on campus.
Fees
- I was offered a fully funded position hence do not know much of fees. However, there is a semester fee each semester which need to be paid. Fees depend on credit hours of each course.
- Since it is a tier II city, expenses are not high. We pay around 700$ per month for a comfortable and private room with attached bathroom.
- Public transportation is free on student ID within the city. Groceries and other expenses add up to 500$ a month.

Likes
- The faculty and staff are extremely welcoming.
- I liked the campus and the facilities inside the university.
- Also, my program is one of the best in the country and I feel privileged to have graduated from it.
Dislikes
- A lot of the things inside the campus are expensive and with a limited budget a student cannot fully experience.
- Also the public transportation is beyond awful and if one doesn’t have a car then it becomes really difficult to get things done
Overview
I chose this College because of scholarship and funding. Secondly because of reputation and faculty expertise. I had a really positive experience at the university. Graduate degrees are hard work and one hardly gets time to engage in other activities. However, UofL had many social groups that were very active and welcoming which made me enjoy my journey holistically. Louisville is also a great town to enjoy different cuisines and thankfully I got the opportunity to try some of them, even though my budget was limited.
Campus Life
Louisville is a mid-size town and the university is one of the bright spots in the city. There are plenty of extra curricular activities happening year round. Campus has many social groups, a modern gym, great facilities to play sports or walk around and a beautiful library which has many individual rooms for personal sessions. The Wi-Fi is never down and has a very good speed. In addition, the faculties inside the department are also modernized with the most updated technology available inside the classroom.
Overview
Good alumini network with better opportunites and experience.
Campus Life
There are numerous events that takes place every week to engage students and help them to explore different cultures. Library is advanced with digital world along with all required book library. Talking about sports there are multiple sports you can participatate like basketball, Golf, Ice skating and what not. Its a good college with great infrastructure and Down market and many more places nearby. Free bus facility in whole city.
Overview
I received a full scholarship and was interested in the biology program. I liked that it was close to home yet far away enough that I felt I had left. The campus is very nice and the staff really cares about their students.
Fees
There was an application fee to apply to the college. There?s tuition, a meal plan, a healthcare fee (that can be waived), possible lab fees if you take a lab, student recreation fee for the gym, and possible costs of housing if you stay on campus!
Overview
Scholarships were the main reason I chose this college as well as my friends who attended there and the location that was close to home but far enough. I also liked the marketing program and business college where I went to school.
Fees
Tuition and board were the main fees other than books. The charges were competitive to other colleges but with my scholarship these costs were minimal.
