I chose this College because of scholarship and funding. Secondly because of reputation and faculty expertise. I had a really positive experience at the university. Graduate degrees are hard work and one hardly gets time to engage in other activities. However, UofL had many social groups that were very active and welcoming which made me enjoy my journey holistically. Aplied to 5 Universities - University of Louisville (Accepted) - Seattle University (Admitted) - Loughborough University (Admitted) - Drexel University (Waitlisted) - Princeton University (Rejected) I was interviewed by all except Seattle University, however for Princeton University, the Prof wanted me to join for Masters and then convert in to PhD afterwards which I didn’t find it worth spending! For rest, I had fully funded offers! - Because here I’m working under a senior professor and she is the chair of department. Her research intersects match with mine and I received a fellowship here, that’s why I chose University of Louisville. - I mailed the professor and she liked my profile, she interviewed me and I had an admit the next day! - GRE was mandatory but because I had prior publications, my GRE was waived off! IELTS of 6.5 was required as a minimum. - Not really, it was quite smooth. However, after admit I forgot to send them documents for i20 until very late and eventually the VISA process was quite last moment! I applied to the Fall 2024 intake, it was the professor’s work that influenced my decision to apply here. Around 2-4 months for all documentation etc. was required for entire admission. I got admit in January, mailed the international student center for i20 but forgot to send them documents which delayed the i20 document. But everything was completed by May and ViSA process was done in June for July biometrics and interview. The passport arrived in July last week and I flew around August first week....Read More

I got interview calls from University of Louisville and Virginia Tech. Didn't make it in Virginia Tech. Got rejected from Umass Amherst, Johns Hopkins and Illinois State University. Probably because of high number of applicants and me not having a published paper while applying. Other than this, it is difficult to point out where I could've gone wrong because you cannot guess. I had IELTS score of 8.5 and gpa 3.6! I applied to Universities that offered research in my area in Astronomy. Shortlisted them based on location ( I didn't want to live in a proper city) and advisor's collaborators. Research was the primary factor! I received rejections from other places so it was an easy decision for me. Took me 3 months to shortlist universities so it was a clear decision. UofL accepts IELTS (7.0/9), TOEFL(100 +) scores and GRE is optional. Although, you need to have a 3.0 or a higher gpa and a strong CV. The statement of purpose is also looked up and of course, the interview is the final step! The application process is definitely hectic and months of silence took a toll on my mental health so it is better to be involved in something else (research or a part time job) while you're applying. Be careful with document preparation especially the SOP! I applied for fall 2024 intake. I completed my Master's in April 2023 and was working on research till August 2023 hence applied for the next fall intake and PhD's rarely have sping intake term.
