- The research work that my advisor is currently involved in.
- Equal focus on coursework and research.
- The professors teaching core courses are amazing.
Dislikes
- We need more Astronomy professors and core Astronomy courses.
- Qualifier exams should be waived off but here it is given a lot of importance. Everything else about University of Louisville seems great!
Placement
- Mostly, PhDs apply for a Post doc position (Atleast that's my plan). We can of course apply for an industry position or work as an academia after getting the degree. I do know most of my seniors are working as Assistant professors in different universities.
- Average salary should be around $75k - $90k yearly.
- Professors help us in finding available positions in different cities or same city as well!
- It's been only 4 months since I got here. Don't really know about everyone that well.
- I live off- campus. Found it through facebook.
- I pay around $600 every month and utilities include Washer, dryer, microwave and dishwasher)
- Moving in and moving out is difficult if you don't have a car or you don't know anyone who has a car - that is why I chose a furnished room.
- My accommodation is 15 minutes (bicycle ride) away from the campus. Bachelor's students stay on campus and other indians live in an apartment.

Likes
- Strong focus on research - R1 categorized with great labs
- Seniority level of Professors - Quite professional and knowledgeable
- Lively campus - 287 acres of campus with amazing urban greeneries and properly planned land use area
Dislikes
- Campus is split in two parts, medical college being in downtown is not regarded as safe enough
- Frequent car break-ins around the university
- Regular renovation works going on
Placement
- Around 90-95% students receive job offers post the graduation.
- The average salary could be around the range of $65-70k to $90-95k per annum.
- Most jobs are found in job fairs which are held once every semester. This is the best place to make connections, get an internship, and even land job offers.
- Some of my friends have been places as Data scientists, data engineers, etc. in tech companies while others have also been placed as product/project managers in manufacturing /construction industries.
- Some major companies that come for graduates from my program are “Turner Construction”, “Stantec”, “Cushman and Wakefield”, among others.
-
Online platforms, it is one of the associated university recommended apartments.
-
The monthly rental is $670 for a 1 bedroom with attached bathroom. It is a three bedroom apartment.
-
Guarantor is a requirement, if not, then $1000 returnable deposit.
-
Yes, recommended but too costly as well. In non season, they reduce lease to lower rates also.
-
At a 5 min walk. Too convenient for us. Most Indian students live at a 20 min walk community.

- The faculty and staff are extremely welcoming.
- I liked the campus and the facilities inside the university.
- Also, my program is one of the best in the country and I feel privileged to have graduated from it.
Dislikes
- A lot of the things inside the campus are expensive and with a limited budget a student cannot fully experience.
- Also the public transportation is beyond awful and if one doesn’t have a car then it becomes really difficult to get things done
Placement
The placements in my program is 100%. All PhD students get at least a temporary job initially and then can lead to a full time position within two years.
I chose this College because of scholarship and funding. Secondly because of reputation and faculty expertise. I had a really positive experience at the university. Graduate degrees are hard work and one hardly gets time to engage in other activities. However, UofL had many social groups that were very active and welcoming which made me enjoy my journey holistically. Louisville is also a great town to enjoy different cuisines and thankfully I got the opportunity to try some of them, even though my budget was limited.
Placement
UofL has a career development center that works with students to figure out their best and most fitting career options, depending on tile available, interest, etc. They try really hard to work with the students to figure out current and future employment.
I received a full scholarship and was interested in the biology program. I liked that it was close to home yet far away enough that I felt I had left. The campus is very nice and the staff really cares about their students.
Placement
The career center is very helpful in finding job opportunities and internships. If you are an engineer you are required to do co-op and they help prepare you for interviews and get you placed somewhere every other semester.
Scholarships were the main reason I chose this college as well as my friends who attended there and the location that was close to home but far enough. I also liked the marketing program and business college where I went to school.
