University of Louisville offers 14+ scholarships, of which 12 are accessible to Indian applicants.
They fall into three brackets: automatic admission awards, competitive school-level merit scholarships and external India-side grants that stack on top of any UofL funding.
- Standard MS Computer Science tuition: $22,815 per year (INR 21.78 Lakhs).
- With Global Cardinal top-tier award: undergraduate tuition drops by $8,000 per year (INR 7.64 Lakhs) for four years.
- With a Graduate Assistantship stack: full tuition waiver plus $15,600+ annual stipend (INR 14.89 Lakhs) and paid health insurance.
- Next major deadline: Speed School PhD Fellowship review for Fall 2027 runs January to March 2027 (tentative).
Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 USD = INR 95.45 as of August 2026. A "Lakh" equals 1,00,000 INR, the standard grouping Indian students use to compare US tuition.

University of Louisville Scholarships for UG Students
Two named awards target Indian F-1 freshmen and transfers. Both apply automatically once the admission office confirms your GPA on a US 4.0 scale.
| Scholarship | Annual Amount | Eligibility | Application | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Global Cardinal Scholarship (Tier 3) | $8,000 (INR 7.64 Lakhs) | First-time freshman on F-1 visa with 3.75+ high school GPA on 4.0 scale | Automatic on admission | Aligned with Fall 2027 UG deadline: July 1, 2027 (tentative) |
| Global Cardinal Scholarship (Tier 2) | $6,500 (INR 6.20 Lakhs) | First-time freshman on F-1 with 3.50 to 3.74 GPA | Automatic on admission | Same as above |
| Global Cardinal Scholarship (Tier 1) | $5,000 (INR 4.77 Lakhs) | First-time freshman on F-1 with 3.25 to 3.49 GPA | Automatic on admission | Same as above |
| Global Transfer Scholarship | $5,000 (INR 4.77 Lakhs) | Transfer international student on F-1 with 3.0+ college GPA | Automatic on admission | Same as above |
Global Cardinal tiers renew across four years if the student maintains satisfactory academic progress. The Global Transfer runs up to six semesters at a 2.5 college GPA floor.
Indian UG admits should convert their 10-point CBSE or state-board percentage to a 4.0 GPA before applying. A CBSE 90% average roughly equals a 3.75 GPA and unlocks the highest Global Cardinal tier.
For full course-level fee context, see the University of Louisville programs page.
University of Louisville Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students
Master’s funding at University of Louisville is not attached to your admission letter by default. You compete for a Graduate Assistantship inside the department or apply for named College of Business scholarships.
| Scholarship | Value | Eligibility | Application | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Graduate Assistantship (Research, Teaching, Administrative) | Full tuition, $1,300+ per month stipend (INR 1.24 Lakhs), health insurance | Full-time enrollment (9+ credits), 3.0 GPA, 20 hours per week service | Contact department Graduate Program Director directly | Rolling; strongest pool decided February to April 2027 (tentative) |
| MBA Endowed Scholarship | Merit-based partial tuition, variable award | Enrolled or admitted MBA student, not on academic probation, no prior award | Separate essay application through College of Business | April 3, 2027 (tentative, annual cycle) |
| General Merit Scholarship (MBA, MSBA, MSAA) | Variable partial-tuition award | Strong academic record; GMAT/GRE 680+ boosts eligibility for premier pool | Automatic on graduate application | Aligned with round-based MBA deadlines |
| Yum! Center for Global Franchise Excellence Award | Up to $3,000 (INR 2.86 Lakhs) | Graduate student in good standing (3.0+ GPA) taking Online Franchise Management Certificate | Separate application to Yum! Center | Annual, tentative April 2027 |
| Bardstown Collective Distilled Spirits Scholarship | Variable | Both undergraduate and graduate students in College of Business | Separate application to College of Business | Rolling for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 terms |
A Graduate Assistantship is the highest-value package on the list. The 20-hour weekly commitment waives 100% of MS Business Analytics tuition ($34,500 or INR 32.93 Lakhs). Stipends start at $15,600 per year and health insurance is included.
Non-resident students on assistantship automatically shift to in-state tuition rates when the full funding originates from University accounts. This waiver quietly saves roughly $12,000 per year on the sticker fee.
Reddit Insight: Indian MS applicants on r/gradadmissions repeatedly report that Speed School master’s offer letters rarely include funding at admission. Assistantship offers surface in semester one after direct email outreach to specific lab PIs, not through a central portal.
For tuition comparisons across all UofL master’s programs, see the University of Louisville admissions and fees breakdown.
India-Specific Scholarships at University of Louisville
University of Louisville does not run a named scholarship reserved exclusively for Indian passport holders. Every UofL award listed above is open to Indian applicants on an F-1 visa who meet the GPA and program criteria.
| Award pathway for Indian applicants | Effective value for Indian students | Realistic route |
|---|---|---|
| Global Cardinal Scholarship (freshman) | $5,000 to $8,000 per year (INR 4.77 to 7.64 Lakhs) across four years | Convert board percentage to a 4.0 GPA and apply by the Fall UG deadline |
| Graduate Assistantship (Research or Teaching) | $34,000+ tuition waived plus $15,600+ stipend (INR 47.82 Lakhs total value) | Email 3 to 5 faculty in target lab with CV before applying; apply early in cycle |
| MBA Endowed pool | Partial tuition offset on $38,500 MBA tuition (INR 36.75 Lakhs) | Submit GMAT 680+ or GRE equivalent with the MBA application |
| Non-resident tuition exception | Out-of-state fee waived to in-state rate when funded on assistantship | Automatic once departmental funding is confirmed by the Bursar |
- Convert your board percentage to a 4.0 GPA before applying to lock the highest Global Cardinal tier.
- Email 3 to 5 target-lab faculty before submitting the graduate application to be in the assistantship pool.
- Stack a UofL award with a JN Tata or Inlaks scholarship to close the residual tuition gap.
To gauge how competitive Indian applicants are historically at Louisville, review the University of Louisville ranking silo. A stronger acceptance profile correlates with higher Global Cardinal tiers.
University of Louisville PhD Scholarships
PhD funding at University of Louisville is fully packaged for engineering and science admits. Doctoral candidates in the Speed School are automatically reviewed for fellowships at the admission decision stage.
| Scholarship | Annual Value | Eligibility | Application | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Speed School Doctoral Fellowship | $22,000 stipend (INR 21.00 Lakhs) plus full tuition remission plus health insurance | PhD admits in Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering | Automatic on doctoral admission | Fall 2027 PhD priority: January 15, 2027 (tentative) |
| University Fellowship | Generous stipend, full tuition remission, health insurance, no service required | Exceptional doctoral admits nominated by department chair or Director of Graduate Studies | Departmental nomination in early spring | Nominations close March 2027 (tentative) |
| Doctoral Graduate Assistantship | Stipend varies by discipline plus full tuition and health insurance | Full-time doctoral enrollment, 3.0 GPA, 20 hours per week research or teaching | Program-specific application to department | Rolling; strongest offers by March 2027 (tentative) |
Doctoral packages renew for up to four years for the Speed School fellowship. Standard doctoral assistantships renew for up to six years subject to progress reviews.
Renewal requires satisfactory research output and, in the case of teaching assistantships, positive student evaluations. Loss of the 3.0 GPA floor is the single most common trigger for non-renewal.
Reddit Insight: Indian PhD candidates in Computer Science report that a research statement targeting one named professor lifts fellowship consideration significantly. Generic "faculty in the department" phrasing rarely wins because Louisville PIs actively participate in fellowship nomination.
For departmental context and course lists, see the University of Louisville overview page.
External Government Scholarships
Five India-side awards stack cleanly on top of any UofL funding. All are open to Indian nationals admitted to a US master’s or doctoral program.

| Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship | 50% grant plus 50% loan for tuition and living expenses | Indian citizen with demonstrated financial need, master’s or PhD applicant | AKF India office application | March 31, 2027 (tentative, annual) |
- UG stack: Global Cardinal ($8,000 per year) plus a JN Tata Endowment loan closes the residual sticker gap.
- MS stack: Graduate Assistantship (full tuition plus stipend) plus a KC Mahindra top-up covers the funding gap in year one.
- PhD stack: Speed School Doctoral Fellowship ($22,000) plus an Inlaks Shivdasani grant pushes total value above INR 100 Lakhs per year.
Any US-side award (Global Cardinal, Graduate Assistantship, Speed School Fellowship) can be combined with any India-side award. UofL requires disclosure of external funding but does not reduce its own award, provided total support does not exceed cost of attendance.

University of Louisville Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the maximum scholarship stack an Indian student can secure at University of Louisville?
Ans. The top stack pairs a Graduate Assistantship with an Inlaks Shivdasani award. The Assistantship waives $34,500 tuition (INR 32.93 Lakhs), pays a $15,600 stipend (INR 14.89 Lakhs) and includes health insurance. Inlaks adds up to $100,000 (INR 95.45 Lakhs) in tuition, living and airfare, pushing total value above INR 140 Lakhs a year.
Ques. When should Indian applicants apply to be considered for University of Louisville scholarships?
Ans. Undergraduate applicants should submit the Fall 2027 admission form by July 1, 2027 (tentative). The Global Cardinal award is auto-applied to admitted freshmen. Graduate applicants targeting an Assistantship should submit by January 15, 2027 (tentative) and email target faculty by December 2026.
Ques. Do Indian students apply separately for scholarships or with the admission form?
Ans. Global Cardinal, Global Transfer, University Fellowship and the Speed School Doctoral Fellowship apply automatically on admission. MBA Endowed, Yum! Center Franchise and Bardstown Collective require separate applications through the College of Business. The Graduate Assistantship needs direct email outreach to faculty in your target lab.
Ques. What GPA and test score do Indian applicants need to unlock the highest scholarship tiers?
Ans. For the Global Cardinal top tier of $8,000 (INR 7.64 Lakhs), a converted 3.75 GPA is required (roughly 90% CBSE or equivalent). For College of Business premier merit awards, a GMAT of 680 or a GRE 320+ is the effective threshold even though tests are officially optional. Speed School fellowships prioritize a research-focused CV and named faculty alignment over standardized test scores.
Ques. Does the Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship cover a degree at University of Louisville?
Ans. Yes, the Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship covers Indian students at any accredited US institution, including University of Louisville. Eligible fields include Public Health, Environmental Science, Urban and Regional Planning and Economics.
The fellowship pays tuition, living stipend, round-trip economy airfare and J-1 visa sponsorship. Applicants also need 3+ years of paid work experience plus a bachelor’s with 55%+ marks.
Ques. Do University of Louisville scholarships cover living costs in Louisville, Kentucky?
Ans. The Graduate Assistantship stipend of $1,300+ per month (INR 1.24 Lakhs) covers 70 to 80 percent of a modest student budget. Off-campus one-bedroom rentals near campus run $800 to $1,100 per month. The Speed School Doctoral Fellowship at $22,000 annually (INR 21.00 Lakhs) covers rent, food and utilities comfortably in low-cost-of-living Louisville.
Ques. Is a University of Louisville MBA scholarship guaranteed for admits with a GMAT above 680?
Ans. A GMAT of 680 or higher unlocks the merit scholarship pool but does not guarantee an award. The College of Business awards partial-tuition scholarships to select candidates on a competitive basis. The MBA Endowed Scholarship application (deadline April 3, 2027 tentative) is a separate process for enrolled students.

- Moving in and moving out is difficult if you don't have a car or you don't know anyone who has a car - that is why I chose a furnished room.

Scholarship
- I received a University Fellowship which is based on professor’s recommendation to the admissions committee.
- Amount is 25000$ yearly for the first two years of PhD.
- All PhDs received some form of scholarship, for masters student, you need to work and build a rapport with the prof so that he/she may keep you as a research/teaching assistant and waived your tuition fees and give you a stipend.

At a 5 min walk. Too convenient for us. Most Indian students live at a 20 min walk community.

- The faculty and staff are extremely welcoming.
- I liked the campus and the facilities inside the university.
- Also, my program is one of the best in the country and I feel privileged to have graduated from it.
Dislikes
- A lot of the things inside the campus are expensive and with a limited budget a student cannot fully experience.
- Also the public transportation is beyond awful and if one doesn’t have a car then it becomes really difficult to get things done
Scholarship
I received full tuition waiver and $1500 monthly stipend as GA
I chose this College because of scholarship and funding. Secondly because of reputation and faculty expertise. I had a really positive experience at the university. Graduate degrees are hard work and one hardly gets time to engage in other activities. However, UofL had many social groups that were very active and welcoming which made me enjoy my journey holistically. Louisville is also a great town to enjoy different cuisines and thankfully I got the opportunity to try some of them, even though my budget was limited.
Scholarship
COB grad Scholarship 6600$ per year
Good alumini network with better opportunites and experience.
Scholarship
Yes. I attended the governor's scholars program of Kentucky and received full tuition at UofL because of that and my ACT score. I also receive KEES money for my grades and ACT scores from high school. UofL offers other scholarships and financial aid but I did not apply to those.
I received a full scholarship and was interested in the biology program. I liked that it was close to home yet far away enough that I felt I had left. The campus is very nice and the staff really cares about their students.
Scholarships were the main reason I chose this college as well as my friends who attended there and the location that was close to home but far enough. I also liked the marketing program and business college where I went to school.
