Ques. What is the minimum duration of the UPES PhD in Biotechnology?
Ans. The minimum duration of the UPES Ph.D. in Biotechnology is 3 years, spanning 6 semesters at INR 1,00,000 per semester. The programme includes mandatory coursework in the first year, followed by full-time research and thesis writing. Extensions beyond 3 years are permitted subject to research progress review and supervisor approval. The minimum total fee for 3 years is INR 6,00,000, excluding hostel charges.
Ques. Is UGC-NET or GATE mandatory for UPES PhD Biotechnology admission?
Ans. A qualifying score in UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, GATE, or GPAT is preferred but not strictly mandatory. Candidates without any of these qualifications must clear the UPES Research Entrance Test. Candidates holding a JRF or Inspire fellowship are fully exempt from the RET and directly proceed to the research proposal stage.

Candidates who clear the RET must then submit a 1000-word research proposal and appear for a personal interview before a faculty panel at UPES Dehradun.
