Many people think that production engineering is mechanical minus thermodynamics. Which is not true. Production engineering is completely different from mechanical as the subjects are different. My friend is currently in the 4th year of production engineering, NIT Trichy and according to him, it doesn’t really have a good prospect. Here’s why: While other departments have 6 subjects per semester you’ll be having 7. This can get quite hectic for you at times. Despite so much hard work, placements are not good at all. You will never be treated equally to your mechanical friends, however good your profile is. Although you can go into most of the mechanical engineering fields like automobiles, industrial tools making, etc. you will be paid lesser than your mechanical engineer mates. However, if you are planning for higher studies and research, then production is a very good choice. Being a production engineer opens up the manufacturing, industrial, and mechanical higher study options too. So, if placement after B.Tech. is your focus, please look elsewhere but if you are into higher studies then surely go for it. Choose wisely.

In order to determine the right branch for yourself, you will have to go through a list of questions related to these branches individually. Production Engineering: Are you okay with drilling a hole, shaping a metal part with a lathe, or polishing a metal piece for microscopic inspection Can you handle distorted schedules? Do you have an interest in drawing and designing? If yes, then go for Production Engineering. Instrumentation and control engineering: Can you withstand extreme peer pressure, and strict professors. You can prepare for competitive exams like CAT/GRE if you plan to pursue an MBA or MS. You can steer your career towards entrepreneurship which does not require a very high-level degree. I know a little bit about ISI Kolkata since I have a few friends from the institute. Here is what you should know about the internships between semesters. The course curriculum specifies that in the summer after completing your first year of M.Tech, you have to do an internship either in the industry or academia. You will have 3 options. Industry: Many companies that visit the Campus for placements of 2nd-year students also select interns for the same. Some of such companies are Samsung Research Labs, Google, General Electric, Reliance, Flipkart, De Shaw, JP Morgan Chase, etc. The average stipend offered last year was 65,000 rupees/month. Some companies offer more than 1 lakh/month. One of my friends interned at Samsung Research Labs. Academia: As per ISI guidelines, you need to pursue an internship at a different academic Institute or industry. A friend of mine went to NUS Singapore, while two others went to a university in Germany. You can also apply to other institutes in Japan, USA, and Europe. People also go to IITs, CMI, and other Tier-1 Institutes of India. Within ISI: If for some reason you could not get an internship in the above-mentioned ways, you can approach any of the 250+ faculty members across all 5 ISI‘s and can ask to work with them in their labs. You will have internships at the end of the first year. In the second year, you will have placements, dissertation, academics. So, the only time left to do an additional internship is the winter break after the first sem. Unless you are extremely enthusiastic, I will suggest that you take a break during this period. Because after the break you will be swamped with coursework for 1.5 years.

Fees and Financial Aid:

My course B.Tech in Production Engineering is pretty expensive as it is a Engineering course and the labs and equipments are pretty expensive. My course costs around 12 lakh for 4 years including all expenses like tuition fee,library,lab fee, mess and hostel fees. Since the main feature of these Central government institutes are peer group most people here stay in hostel so you can't neglect that. Which also has provided a great forum to meet people and improve my social skills and make me a bettet person every day. It is a great opportunity to improve your lifestyle itself completely so do work hard.

institute tution fee for each semester is Rs.62500 ,while other fee for each year is 28000.Students whose family is less than 1 LPA receive tution fee remission,while those of family income between 1-5 LPA will get 2/3 of tution fee remission. For the first year. Annual Tuition fee is around 1,75,000Rs and hostel fee is close to 60,000Rs. Scholarships are available at economic basis as well as category basis. SC/ST categ. students have complete exemption from tuition fees along with people with annual income under 1 Lakh Rupees. Apart from people with under 5 Lakh ruppee annual income will have some percentage of annual tuition fees remission.

the tuition fees comes upto 1,30,000 each year and along with hostel fees and other amenities , it comes around 3 lakhs. the tuition fee might hike each year with not so significant amount. there are scholarships for the economically weaker section where they dont have to pay tuition fees there is smmer internship in campus for the student which has a stipend of 10000

the fees structures is pretty constant and is somewhat around 200000 per year the complete cost of the education is around 6 to 7 lakhs for the entire btech there are various scholarship on the basis of the family income , caste and also if they are intelligent enough to get it campus provides employment opportunities like becoming ta, and doing research intern

The NITT

The tution fees per each semester is 62,500 rupees. Mess fees and hostel fess are 24,500 and 29,150 respectively per each semester. There is fee refund based on income. The student who has their family income below 1 lakh no need to pay tution fees. College is open for many scholarships based on knowledge and family economy.
