Admission to NITs and IITs is based on JEE Mains and Advanced exams. JEE Mains, held online in January and April, is a 3-hour test with 75 questions. It allows three attempts, usually in the 12th grade and as droppers, with admissions based on rank. Faculty at these institutions are highly qualified, maintaining a 1:17 student-to-professor ratio. The annual academic fee is Rs. 70,000, and the hostel fee is Rs. 30,000, with financial aid for meritorious and low-income students, including fee waivers for SC/ST categories.

At NIT Trichy, placements involve over 220 companies, with the highest salary hitting 92.5 LPA. Around 90% of students secure roles mainly in core, software, and analytics sectors. Internships, starting from the 5th semester, offer stipends between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 200,000. The four-year course cost ranges from Rs. 5.5 to Rs. 6.25 lakh, with significant tuition waivers for low-income families.
SC/ST students receive full tuition reimbursement. Scholarships like NSP, FFE, and JSPF, along with national and state options, are available. Student loans with favorable interest rates are also offered. Annual fees might increase by about 10%, with additional service fees each odd semester.
