AI-Generated Summary based on 5 Reviews

Admission to the LLB and LLM courses at the university requires passing the CLAT entrance test, which typically necessitates about a month of preparation. The faculty is generally supportive, although one professor is noted for being strict. The LLM program includes around 15-16 exams and a dissertation, with a success rate of 80% among students. The semester fee ranges from 3,000 to 4,000. The university provides campus job opportunities, particularly in the Law faculty, and many renowned companies recruit students, provided they have strong academic and practical skills.

Final-year students are eligible for campus placements, and those who do not receive job offers can start their own practice, work under a senior advocate, or apply to legal firms. Internships must be independently obtained by students. The university charges an annual fee of 7,300, with additional hostel admission costs of 31,000, which includes a quarterly fee for three months. The monthly hostel fee is 3,000, covering the electricity bill, and a refundable caution deposit of 7,000 is required.

DU L.L.M. FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between L.L.M. (2-Year) and L.L.M. (3-Year) programs at Delhi University?

Ans. The L.L.M. (2-Year) is a full-time program designed for students who can dedicate themselves exclusively to their studies. Students must file an affidavit stating they are not engaged in any trade, business, or employment. The L.L.M. (3-Year) program is designed for working professionals and allows them to pursue the degree while continuing their professional practice. Both programs cover the same curriculum and have the same eligibility criteria, but the 3-year program spreads the coursework over a longer period to accommodate working professionals. The 2-year program is more intensive with regular classes and seminars.

Ques. What is the structure of the L.L.M. curriculum and how many papers do students study?

Ans. The L.L.M. (2-Year) program is divided into four semesters with a total of 82 credits. Students study core courses in Constitutional Law and Governance, Legal and Social Science Research Methods, and Law and Justice in a Global World. Additionally, students choose elective courses from a wide range of specialized subjects including Corporate Law, International Law, Environmental Law, Intellectual Property Law, Cyber Law, Criminal Justice, and many others. In the fourth semester, students submit a dissertation of 200 marks (150 marks for evaluation and 50 marks for viva voce examination). The program emphasizes both breadth and depth of legal knowledge.

Ques. How important is the dissertation in the L.L.M. program and what are the plagiarism policies?

Ans. The dissertation is a critical component of the L.L.M. program, carrying 200 marks out of the total evaluation. Students must submit a synopsis by October 15th of their third semester, and supervisors are appointed by November 15th after successful defense of the synopsis. The dissertation must be submitted by April 30th or June 30th with Dean's permission. Delhi University has strict plagiarism policies: similarities up to 10% are acceptable, 10-40% requires revision within 6 months, 40-60% results in debarment for one year, and above 60% leads to cancellation of registration. The dissertation must have a plagiarism check certificate signed by the Faculty Librarian and Supervisor.

Ques. What are the career prospects after completing L.L.M. from Delhi University?

Ans. L.L.M. graduates from Delhi University have excellent career prospects in various sectors. Many pursue careers as litigating lawyers in high courts and supreme court, corporate lawyers in multinational companies, legal consultants, judges and judicial officers, legal researchers, law professors and academics, and government legal advisors. The Faculty of Law has a strong alumni network with many prominent judges, senior advocates, and legal professionals. The Central Placement Cell of Delhi University facilitates placements with leading law firms, corporate houses, and government organizations. Many graduates also pursue further studies like Ph.D. or specialized certifications.

Ques. What is the entrance test pattern for L.L.M. admission and how should I prepare?

Ans. The L.L.M. entrance test consists of 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions to be answered in 2 hours. Each question carries 4 marks, with 1 mark deducted for incorrect answers. The test covers Constitutional Law of India, Jurisprudence, Law of Contracts, Sale of Goods, Law of Torts, Consumer Protection, Criminal Law, Family Law, Public International Law, Intellectual Property Law, Cyber Law, Environment Law, Company Law, and Partnership. Additionally, a few questions may address contemporary legal issues. To prepare, candidates should thoroughly revise their LL.B. curriculum, particularly the core subjects, and stay updated with recent legal developments and landmark judgments. Solving previous years' question papers and taking mock tests is highly recommended.

Ques. Are there opportunities for international exposure and exchange programs in the L.L.M. program?

Ans. Yes, Delhi University's Faculty of Law has collaborations with several international universities and legal institutions. Students get opportunities to participate in international seminars, conferences, and moot court competitions. The Faculty encourages students to present research papers at national and international forums. Additionally, the Faculty has exchange programs with universities in the United States, United Kingdom, and other countries where L.L.M. students can pursue research or attend specialized courses. These international exposures enhance the academic experience and provide global perspectives on legal issues. Students are also encouraged to participate in legal research projects with international organizations and NGOs working on human rights and development issues.
