• There are opportunities for that but I didn’t explore those as I was sure that I wanted to return to India after I completed the course.
• When I was there, as per the visa terms, I had 3 months to find a job but I didn’t pursue that.

• I stayed in the university accommodation because that felt safer to me and in terms of cost, it wasn’t costlier than staying off-campus. The accommodation had a laundry room and an entertainment and hangout area which was open 24x7.
• All the buildings were access controlled and only the dorm heads had access to all the buildings and floors. I loved this because that meant that no random people could come straying on our floor and we could feel safe and secure, which was also important for my parents. The college had its own community and provided everyone with lots of different opportunities to connect and socialise.

• I think first and foremost luck is a big factor and Indian experience in any field does count. I was lucky to working for 1.5 years in the pharma industry before moving to UK which not only gave my cv a boost but also gave to me to sit in interviews and apply for the roles I already had an experience in.
• The initial thing is to apply for jobs as soon as you submit your thesis/dissertation, which is usually in the last semester. Applying and tailoring your CV are the next essential steps. Acclimatising the CV to the UK-based format and giving it a key work boost, along with keeping your linkedin profile up to date, is equally important.
• The most important platform is Linkedin and Indeed, which have all recent job openings and one can apply directly from the website or by going to the company portal or asking for referrals if you know anyone working in the same firm.
• In my batch, close to 15 people found the job but a majority are still struggling to stick with their part times. The most important thing is to make use of the visa you have and apply and secure a sponsorship so as to save money in the future to apply for PSW (post-study work visa). Securing a sponsored job soon saves a lot of money and effort in the future.

• Private accommodation.
• The monthly rent was 650 GBP per month.
• None; I had a friend here in the UK who helped me find one locally in his place.
• I would recommend going for a hostel in case you have no one here who can locally visit the place for private accommodation.
• If you do have someone, a private accommodation which can be shared with 2 students is also a great option.
• My accommodation was 45 mins bus ride from Uni which was far but my part-time job was close to the house, so I chose that.

• Average salary range would be £22000-£30000
• Usually it is through linkedin, applying on job portals or the company's website 
• Placement experience of my batch was not the best since new visa rules came and it became really hard for securing jobs as international students. Most of us either returned to India or continued with opting for masters

• Off campus accommodation, but it was a student hostel.
• I searched on the web there are many websites as well for this, if you are searching for a house/housemates I would suggest Facebook groups that are already present.
• The rent was around £900 per month (all inclusive), A ensuite room and a shared kitchen.
• Accommodations in York are a scarce resource, be early!!
• People start applying for them as soon as the 1st semester of the previous year. (like for 2025 they start applying in 2024 itself)
• My accommodation was only a 10 min walk away. (The Boulevard, great place if you have good flatmates)
• Most of the Indian students stayed on campus where rent is cheaper a bit (£715 per month) but the rooms are 1/3rd the size of what I had but the security is great!

• Most international students ended up returning home despite the PSW visa due to a lack of jobs that are willing to offer work sponsorship.
  Due to the current norm, you have to be paid a minimum of 38500 GBP/year as an international worker in the UK. Only the British students from my program found work there and they were earning 30000 GBP/year.
• The best way to find work would be to apply for graduate roles as soon as you start your program. Most big companies roll out graduate programs in September, and students join them in the following autumn. These accept multiple applicants and all have a similar process, with most of them providing visa sponsorship. Even if it's not directly related to what you are looking for, it is a great cushion to have while you explore other opportunities and for that, the best bet would be networking—not exactly just referrals but actually talking to people.

• I lived off campus on Fulford Road, which was 15 minutes walk from the campus. I found the accommodation published on the spare room website, which I was checking daily. It was a two-bedroom, two-bathroom place at 425 GBP per person and I connected over a call with my flatmate before I had arrived in York to secure the place.
• My advice to students would be to start looking at accommodations as early as they can and put spare room alerts on their phone. They shouldn't be too shy about taking up accommodations with non-Indian students, as it can often be helpful to have insights from someone who already knows the place. Off-campus flats will be the cheapest option available so make sure you have completely explored that before going for off-campus private hostels.
• Indian students were spread across all types of accommodations, so I can't say there was a majority. There were quite a few living in the Fulford area where I was.

• Hardly 2-3 people in my batch got jobs in the field they graduated in; most of them failed to find jobs because of the recession and harder laws in April 2024.
• Average salary range is 20-26.
• Usually they find jobs using LinkedIn, references, or Indeed, but again, its nearly impossible for international students. Only small companies hire international students, not the big brands, unless you have 3-4 years of experience in a big brand in your home country.

• I went for on-campus accommodation with an ensuite. I tried to find private accommodation but it was very hard to find in York. I contacted agents and tried entering a room and other similar apps but was futile.
• I ended up taking the band 3, AnneLister, a university accommodation, and I think it was the best with the most perfect lake view and cleaned room.
• I would suggest students always opt for university accommodation; they have amazing facilities, and you are more part of the university; you won't miss many classes due to rain or harsh weather. You will be more involved and can get free food at events.

• About 40–50% of students can secure positions within 6 months, while for others it may take a longer period. The average salary of a newly qualified graduate can be from £20000-£40000 depending on the degree and experience of students.
• A good way to secure employment can be internship, online company websites, campus recruitment, etc.

• For the law programme, the major hiring companies are Addleshaw and Goddard, Latham and Watkins, white & case, dla piper, Morgan Lewis, etc.

• In my first year, I lived in on-campus accommodation, as it made exploring the campus and meeting people really easy.
  I found my accommodation on the university website and through university emails.
• The monthly rent was around £750 for my college, which included access to my en-suite room, a shared kitchen with 10 other students, and a college common room with various games and entertainment. There is enough space on campus for most first-year students.
• You are given a college of your choice based on preference and availability.
• Most accommodation buildings are a 5-10 minute walk from your course buildings.

• I have no idea about Full-time jobs. I did not work full-time after my course time.
• I returned to India after my course ended.
• As for my batch mates, they are still working wherever they were working before, but now full-time

• During my application for accommodation, I opted for both on-campus and off-campus accommodations. In the end, I received an off-campus accommodation, but it was worth every pound spent. I found my accommodation through the university portal for applying for accommodations.
• The monthly rent varied from 724 GBP per month for months with 30 days and 748 GBP for months with 31 days. The maintenance and cleaning services were always ready to help with any issues, and all students also had access to the cinema room, laundry, student lounge, pool table, and PlayStation room. These facilities made living 51 weeks there very comfortable.
• The only challenge to be noted for accommodations is the time you start looking for it. Start looking for accommodations as early as possible so that you can receive multiple offers and select the accommodation according to your preference.
• My accommodation was approximately 1.3 km from the University. It was not far to travel by bus, so walking to the university was easy for me. There was not a specific accommodation where only Indian students lived. Indian students were spread out across multiple on & off campus accommodations.

Many International companies keep visiting York university, and they keep conducting international global fares where 50+ companies come and brief interested students about the job opportunities they have with them.

My experience at an abroad university is rewarding experience. It is a time of personal growth, academic achievement, and social exploration. I often tend to encounter new ideas, perspectives, and people that expand their horizons and broaden their understanding of the world. Overall, the university experience is an important chapter in many people's lives and so in my life it has significantly impacted my personal and professional development.
