My Experience at University of York

My first options, like many other students, were schools in London. However, this is where my advisors from Chopras were instrumental. They compared schools for me in terms of their curriculum, quality of faculty and teaching modules, which I hadn’t thought of and I ended up choosing York because of its unique problem-based learning model, which wasn’t present in any other law schools in the area. I applied to 4 colleges. Got into 3. I had applied to the University of Nottingham, University of Exeter, Royal Holloway, and University of York. I didn't get into the University of Exeter. I had an unconditional offer from all others. My rejection from the University of Exeter was due to the lack of satisfactory grades in mathematical subjects from my undergraduate degree, which was a requirement for their FinMaths program. I met the minimum but I didn't meet the criteria compared to other applicants that year. It was the most well ranked for my programme, and York seemed to be the best city for its proximity to bigger cities, quieter living, and affordability. It was a usual application. You will require your transcripts and letter of recommendation to upload with other information about your academic and professional background. My program didn't require any standardised test scores. I did take the TOEFL. Requirements are different for each programme; I had 104/120 The admission process was pretty smooth and I heard back within two weeks. You get an international representative who will create a group with other international students in the months leading up to the program start date. They will assist you in any further help required during the visa application process. I applied for 2020 intake but ended up referring to September 2021 due to the pandemic. I applied for the university on May 5, 2020, and sent out my recommendations too. I received an acceptance on 28th May 2020. I sent out an application for deferral in June. I applied to 3 colleges and got accepted at all 3: Aston University (got scholarship of 7 Lakh but, wanted better uni) University of Birmingham (accepted but wanted better university in terms of MPH ranking) University of Leeds (accepted but wanted York because of better ranking) Finally, York accepted and chose my course (MPH) No rejections received It had a better ranking for MPH that year and had a good faculty in the medical sciences dept. My senior colleague was an alumna, and she suggested that York was a good option; therefore, I chose it. The admission process was quite simple. Fateh Education, a consultancy based in New Delhi, helped me with my applications. The first step was getting a good band at IELTS, which I successfully passed in speaking, listening, and writing. Required 6 band and above. Required SOP (statement of purpose letter) and 2 LORs (letters of recommendation from my previous institutes) I had to fill out an admission form for the UOY and then wait for the admission acceptance. The major challenge, I believe, was to show sufficient funds, and therefore I applied for a personal education loan. The process for which was cumbersome, and finally, once approved, it was easy going forward. I applied to the Sept Intake. The admission process was fairly fast. I received my acceptance in 2 weeks. Applied for my visa and then had to wait for visa approvals. The major lag behind was my loan process, which took a long time to confirm. Once my loan was approved, I think I immediately applied for my visa and accommodations. My friend in the UK helped me to find accommodations and therefore it was fairly easy. The whole timeline was close to 3-4 months from submission to final approval. I started my application in May of 2022 and by Aug, I had my visa. Applied to 5: University of York, Lancaster Management School, University of Bath, Loughborough University, University of Exeter. I got admitted in all five universities where I applied, University of Bath needed a lot of documentation from me and they did not appeal to me anyways so I withdrew my application from them once I got in the others and was satisfied. I chose University of York because I really liked the campus, the fees was fitting in my budget and I liked the people I talked to in terms during online open days I had to apply through UCAS for my bachelors degree - where you submit your 11th and 12th (assumed) marks, personal statement and other certifications Eligibility criteria for my course was minimum 83% in 12th boards (Maharashtra State Board) and 8 pointer in IELTS (IELTS was waived off if you scored above 75 in your english exams in 12th so I never gave IELTS) My overall admission process was good, really smooth and easy. Uni of York - Admitted Nottingham - Rejected (Applied for FinTech, was told would be accepted by the Uni representative but I wasn't, mostly because of Tech background) Uni of Exeter - Rejected (Didn't qualify, applied for FinTech course maybe that was mistake) Queen Mary - Rejected (they only took B.Tech background students for a finance course weirdly but the next 2024 Jan they started accepting BBA as well) Manchester Metropolitan - Accepted Uni of York is part of the Russel Group, had great ranking and reviews. And when we compare it to Manchester Metropolitan the resources here were immense and great. The admission process was simple - The application, then if accepted you will have to attend a CAS Interview and then pay 2 Lakhs as admission fee (inclusive in total fee). The eligibility criteria was being from the same background (academically). An IELTS test with no band less than 6 and total of 6.5 The admission process was pretty simple and easy I applied for the September 2023 intake. The process takes around 3-8 weeks, completely depends on individual applications. Mine took around 3 weeks. After I applied, I received admit in 1 week (but this depends, for some of my classmates it took 3-5 weeks), and the deadline to accept admit was around 1 month. I applied in 7-8 colleges, received acceptance from 3, and was waitlisted in 1. I was accepted at the University of York and the University of Brighton. Rejection: Nottingham, City University of London, Kingston University. I believe I needed a more relevant bachelor's degree with better grades and more relevant experience to get offers but I was happy with my choice in the end. I accepted York because of the well-known professor in the industry and it being a Russell Group. It was a straight-forward application online; I did it myself with a small statement of purpose. I received an offer in 45 days, which was unconditional. After I accepted the offer, I had to wait a couple of months to get the CAS for validation of acceptance and the visa process. I already had IELTS, the requirement being a minimum of 7. They also accept TOEFL. Also, if your medium of study was English, you don't require any exams and instead get a letter from undergrad university as a confirmation. It was a very straightforward process, unlike in the USA, with very transparent websites and steps. The only annoying part was waiting for CAS, which took forever to come but rest assured, I did it all alone without any help. I applied in February starting, received my acceptance on March 10 and had to wait a few months for my CAS letter, which came around June. I applied to 5 universities in all, including York, Queen Mary London, and Southampton. However, York was the first university that I received an acceptance letter from and I didn’t even wait for the others as York has a very unique law programme. I am not sure if I received a rejection from any, as I accepted my York letter as soon as possible and did not view the others on UCAS. I chose York for its unique law programme, which is based on PBL-based learning so it’s more practical rather than theoretical. I received an unconditional offer from the university and it was a smooth process from there on. I did not require an IELTS test as my higher studies had been completed in the English language, though some people might require it based on their educational background. After acceptance, I waited for my CAS letter and once that was done, I just needed to pay tuition and finalise my accommodation. The university helps you through every step by sending emails about the next step required and it’s a very smooth and easy process I applied to the September intake as this is the most popular one and normally the one in which the term starts. The admissions process began in April with me applying for the universities on UCAS. You can do this a bit earlier as well. It takes a few weeks for the universities to get back to you but this mostly happens in May and June. I applied to and got accepted into Wentworth College. No, I did not face any rejections. I did not apply to most other colleges as I felt different from Wentworth. All other colleges had expensive accommodations. Also, Wentworth College was near the halls where my lectures took place. Wentworth is a good college in West Campus but can improve with some improvements. I chose University of York after a lot of prior research and meeting with Uni of York delegates during University fairs. I also had some friends staying in the UK who suggested University of York over other selected Universities. I felt it was the right choice as Uni of York is also a Russell Group University It was very beneficial for me. The overall admission process was not much of a hassle for me. I would rate it a solid 8 out of 10. I applied for the September intake because it was feasible for me. I completed my undergraduate degree in June 2023. During that time, I was also motivated to pursue a Master's in the UK, so I had already started my research. I did not want to waste any time or take a gap year, so I instantly applied for the September 2023 intake and was admitted to the University of York. I started my application in March 2023. I received a conditional offer in April/May of 2023. Right after I received my undergraduate degree and uploaded it on the admission portal, I received my Unconditional Offer Letter and CAS letter.
