Course Curriculum

8

  • My course was difficult on a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 7. It wasn't really difficult but if you chose a few modules that require lots of research etc it would get overwhelming
  • Positive: Amazing practicality, apply to real life teaching
  • Negative: None

Admission Experience

  • Applied to 5: University of York, Lancaster Management School, University of Bath, Loughborough University, University of Exeter. I got admitted in all five universities where I applied, University of Bath needed a lot of documentation from me and they did not appeal to me anyways so I withdrew my application from them once I got in the others and was satisfied.
  • I chose University of York because I really liked the campus, the fees was fitting in my budget and I liked the people I talked to in terms during online open days
  • I had to apply through UCAS for my bachelors degree - where you submit your 11th and 12th (assumed) marks, personal statement and other certifications
  • Eligibility criteria for my course was minimum 83% in 12th boards (Maharashtra State Board) and 8 pointer in IELTS (IELTS was waived off if you scored above 75 in your english exams in 12th so I never gave IELTS)
  • My overall admission process was good, really smooth and easy.
  • I applied for Autumn intake (September). There was only one intake for bachelors in my university.
  • Timeline: December 2020- Applied through UCAS,February 2021- Received all decisions,March/April 2021- Confirmed my firm and insurance choice,August 2021 - Received my 12th Grade Results and submitted to my firm choice. Within a week I received my CAS and applied for Visa

Class Schedule

8

  • Classes: Typical 3 days in a week, timings vary. Some days it used to be from 9-5 somedays only one hour of class
  • Average number of students: 100
  • Indian Students: I believe, when I started my course in 2021, it was only 3 of us

Faculty

8

  • Faculty to student ratio is 18:1 I believe. The website would explain this in detail
  • Teaching methodology was really good, I wouldn't change a thing
  • I'm not aware of faculty members assisting students in finding jobs
  • I don't want to name any faculty members here without their consent but I'll share majority of my faculty (School for Business and Society) was really good

Campus Life

10

  • College has 2 campus: East and West
  • All facilities are available. We have 2 supermarkets, restaurants, bars, football turf, gyms, swimming pool, athelete track, a clinic, 3 libraries
  • Freshers fest is a major fest that happens, Roses: A rivalry between York and Lancaster is a big event and all societies have many events happening all year round
  • There are 100+ societies catering to all hobbies, interests and extracurriculars

Part Time Jobs

  • Only masters/phd students can become assistants so I'm not aware
  • I'm not aware of pay
  • On-campus jobs are available in gyms, restaurants, cafeterias etc. Pay ranges from £9-£12/hour
  • Maximum hours allowed is 20 hours/week during term time and 40 hours/week during vacation
  • It is difficult to secure an on campus part time job since there are limited ones but there are multiple jobs in the city which is easy to find
  • Students typically earn £9-£11/hour in part time. It is easy to find a job in the city of York as it is a dense student city. Application for part time jobs vary a lot but usually its just a simple form filling either in person or online. Students can search on university website, indeed, linkedin, or directly go and ask grocery stores/restaurants etc.

Placement

4

  • Average salary range would be £22000-£30000
  • Usually it is through linkedin, applying on job portals or the company's website
  • Placement experience of my batch was not the best since new visa rules came and it became really hard for securing jobs as international students. Most of us either returned to India or continued with opting for masters
  • You can find it on our website I'm not sure.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I found my accomodation through university's website
  • Monthly rent was £500-800, depending on what room you choose, all bills (light, electricity, wifi), kitchen was included
  • No challenges encountered in facing accomodation
  • I would suggest always opt for on-campus accomodation
  • Most Indian students stay on- campus. Some opt for private accomodation in the city which is a 10 minute bus ride away

Exams

  • No exams are compulsory, IELTS is compulsory if you score low in your english exams in your degree/12th grade. Otherwise in most UK universities IELTS can be waived.
  • Documents are all dependent on your course and what UCAS looks like. No interview was taken for my process. The University of York does not take interviews as far as I am aware - I think it's only for students doing MBBS

Fees

  • Fees was £18350 for tuition Accomodation was £4000 (Accommodation depends on what college/living style you choose)
  • Fees is charged either yearly or term-wise (There are 3 terms) Monthly expense again depends on your lifestyle - mine ranged from £100-£200 which included going out, groceries, transportation, takeaways etc. This does not include rent. Rent is in accomodation

Scholarship

  • No there is no scholarship for my course or any other bachelor course in The University of York. There are scholarships for Masters students at The University of York as I am aware 2 of my friends had received them.
  • I am unaware of the criteria and what the process was like though. Typical award amount ranges, as per my assumption, from £4000-£10,000
