Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the Swansea University acceptance rate for Indian applicants?
Ans. Swansea University's acceptance rate for international applicants is approximately 53%. For Indian Master's candidates meeting the 2:1 honours threshold (60%+ in Indian bachelor's) with IELTS 6.5, the offer probability runs 70 to 80%. Selective programmes like MSc Clinical Psychology and the MBA run 30 to 40% offer rates due to interview shortlists.
Ques. Is the GRE or GMAT required for Swansea admissions?
Ans. No. Swansea does not require GRE, GMAT, GATE, or any other standardised test for Master's or MBA. IELTS 6.5 (or PTE 62, TOEFL iBT 88) is the only standardised requirement for PG. Indian applicants with CBSE/SSCE Class 12 English at 70%+ can waive the English test. The program requires 2 years of work experience instead of the GMAT.
Ques. What is the Swansea University application fee?
Ans. Direct international applications via Swansea Learner Gateway are free for UG and PG. UCAS UG applications cost £28.50 (₹3,677) for one to five choices. Most Indian applicants use the direct route. It is faster: 5 working days for PG decisions, 10 to 15 working days for UG.
Ques. When is the Swansea September 2026 deadline?
Ans. Direct international PG applications close 31 July 2026. Direct international UG applications close 30 June 2026. UCAS UG equal consideration (14 January 2026) has passed. Late UCAS international applications are accepted until 30 June 2026 for most programmes. Submit by mid-June 2026 for deposit, CAS, and visa.
Ques. Does Swansea require a 4-year UG degree?
Ans. No. Swansea accepts Indian 3-year bachelor's degrees (BA, BSc, BCom, BBA) directly for all master's, including MBA, credit conversion or an extra year is required. This is a major advantage over a US Master's. The standard floor is 50 to 60% in the Indian bachelor's, depending on the programme tier.
Ques. What is the deposit for Swansea after the offer?
Ans. Standard deposit is £4,000 (₹5.16 Lakhs) via Convera. Applicants from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Telangana pay £8,000 (₹10.32 Lakhs). Applicants from Haryana and Punjab pay the full first-year tuition upfront. The deposit becomes part of the first-year tuition. It is fully refunded (the in-UK admin fee) if the UK visa is rejected.
Ques. Can I waive IELTS in the Indian Class 12 English?
Ans. Yes. CBSE or SSCE Class 12 English at 70%+ qualifies for an IELTS waiver, subject to offer-letter confirmation. The waiver applies to fresh graduates or applicants with up to 3.5 years post-bachelor's gap. Beyond 3.5 years, a fresh IELTS or PTE is required. The waiver does not apply to programmes needing IELTS 7.0 (Law, Psychology, Education).
Ques. Are there interviews for Swansea Master's?
Ans. Most Swansea Master's do not interview. Exceptions: MSc Clinical Psychology, MA Social Work, MBBS Medicine, BSc Psychology, and some research-led MSc programmes. Interviews are 20 to 30 minutes virtual via Microsoft Teams. The MBA may include a 30-minute conversation with the programme director. No interview for MSc CS, Data Science, or Finance.
Ques. Do I need ATAS for Swansea engineering Master's?
Ans. ATAS Clearance Certificate is required only for select research-led STEM programmes, typically PhD and a small number of research-MSc. Most taught MSc programmes (Computer Science, Data Science, Cyber Security, Civil Engineering) do not require ATAS. Instructions come in the offer letter. ATAS is free and takes 4 to 6 weeks.
Ques. What is the refund policy if the Swansea visa is rejected?
Ans. Swansea refunds the deposit in full minus an admin fee of £200 to £500 (₹25,800 to ₹64,500). The refund requires the official UK visa refusal letter and a written request to the Student Finance Office. Applicants who voluntarily defer to the next intake can transfer the deposit without losing money. Refund processing takes 4 to 6 weeks.
Ques. How does Swansea verify Indian transcripts?
Ans. Swansea does not require a WES evaluation. Indian applicants upload scanned transcripts via the Learner Gateway. The admissions team verifies directly with the issuing university or board if needed. An apostille from MEA is needed only for the UK student visa stage. Both semester-wise and consolidated transcripts are accepted. A bona fide letter works for final-year applicants without a degree certificate.
Ques. Can Swansea applicants apply for the January 2027 intake?
Ans. Yes. Swansea offers January 2027 entry for about 60% of PG taught programmes and a smaller set of programmes in UG. Direct applications open in June 2026 and close on 31 October 2026. The program start date is 26 January 2027. January suits applicants who missed September or want extra time for IELTS. Not all programmes participate; check the programme page.

- Wide range of extracurricular activities, with active encouragement from teachers to participate in at least a few
- Scenic location by Swansea Bay
Dislikes
- Limited communication with staff and professors outside teaching hours
- Professors are available only twice a week for consultation, which is often insufficient as student appointments tend to overlap
- The weather can be gloomy, unpredictable, and rainy for most of the year

- It was good university for Aerospace engineering on Engineering point of view
- The beach was close by to have a relaxing evenings
- The people around were more welcoming

- Couldn't spend more time due to Pandemic
- The university was very vast that it was almost impossible for a Master's student to make head and tail out of it at the beginning
Likes
- The diversity in my campus- we had people from all over the world.
- The transportation and connectivity between both campuses of my university.
- The food hubs are plenty so i was not worried about cooking in the morning.
Dislikes
- In the MSc course they don't spoon feed you, which I understand but the professors can atleast teach a little in detail if the majority of the class does not understand a topic!
- Because its a one year course, it goes by pretty quick and the struggle is real to understand, grasp the knowledge etc.
- Didnt really like my time table to be honest. atleast in my course we only had 2 full days of university- from 9am to 5pm. That's 3 very long hours of same lectures that get very mundane, would have appreciated smaller lectures and more days instead.
Scholarship
- Yes i received a bursary scholarship, it is for international students from eligible countries. the award amount was 3000 pounds.
- Yes, many people receive it, you just have to inquire about it. i sent them an email asking about any scholarships that I was eligible for and they responded with that. but have a look at the university website, many scholarships and their criteria are mentioned there.

- 1. Weather is always rainy and windy.
- 2. Dining options are limited within the campus
- 3. As its in wales, there is a bit travel issue with the major cities
Scholarship
- During admission as per the SOP submitted by the student, college itself provide bursaries of some amount. if the SOP is well enough then student can expect from 2000-3000 pounds bursaries deducted from the tution fees. However, You always have the option to ask the university if they have any kind of scholarships. Also, there is chevening scholarship which can be availed, details of which have to be researched by the student as I witnessed some of the international student had that.

Likes
- The first thing I would say is the campus, is so beautiful and very well organized, you won't be bothered around asking people where to go. The campus is very close to the beach which elevates the beauty of it.
- How can I miss the library, I spent most of my time there reading and working on group projects, it has all the necessary & Recommended books, and Silent Zone is so good.
- The University is in collaboration with very big and renowned companies like Rolls-Royce, Airbus, Mercedes Benz, GE, BAE systems, etc. Hence you get a chance to work on projects and dissertations with them.
Dislikes
- In my eyes it was good but many people would dislike the examination system because they have 75% per cent of assessments based on written exams which is the difficult part and 25 % based on assignments.
- The second part is the weekly timetable, five days a week classes and everyday 4-6 hours study, that is what most students don't prefer. If you are doing a part-time job and cooking yourself then it's not easy to manage your study for sure.
- Without a doubt professors are good but some of them really don't care about teaching and if you're not studious, you might have to suffer a lot by asking lots of doubts they are not free all the time and they have specific weekdays to solve your query.
Overview
- The first thing is Bristol and Glasgow were more expensive for me, and except for Swansea, no other university offered me a scholarship.
- And the second thing is a collaboration with aerospace companies. One friend of mine was studying there, and he got to work with Mercedes Benz, so I decided to go with Swansea, and it is way more beautiful.
Scholarship
- I did receive 4000 GBP in scholarship; for that, you have to submit an essay for the justification. Just that and they will figure out from your transcripts and resume that you submitted earlier. And yes, 10 other students received the same amount of scholarship. I have no clear idea how many students are getting it each year but the amount is the same: 3000-4000 GBP.

- They provide end to end support for International students as the students adjusting to a different educational structure can be challenging. They have some dedicated resources particularly workshops on essay writing, citing & referencing sources, and even adjusting to local academic expectations.
- Each and every student will be assigned an individual mentor. Where they provide guidance especially to international students related to academic, social, and even career. This helps an individual to bridge the gap between feeling like a newcomer to becoming a fully united part of the university.
- University organises a career fair every quarter of the year. Where more than 100 international, national companies take part and guide students regarding challenges like sponsorship, visa regulations, cultural differences in job-hunting practices. The Employability team helps you in building your resume/ CV, skills or what type of international experiences to highlight to national employers and they even have a largely connected global alumni network that itself says everything.
Dislikes
- The bad thing about the university is that it’s located in a small city, Swansea might not offer the same level of networking opportunities, or big-city lifestyle that places like London, Manchester, or Cardiff provide. For instance, I feel that the local job market would be less active than in major metropolitan cities, requiring students to travel way far for certain career opportunities.
- Although the university has many societies and clubs for students, the range of extracurricular activities might not be as extensive as what is found at Universities such as Kings College of London, London School of Economics, and this could even lead to students seeking very specific interests or hobbies.
- A notable trend is that more affiliated institutions have larger conferences, seminars and guest speaker and workshop programs with more influential and professional companies. Also, it is possible that events of such high profile placements as well as competition may not be as vigorous in Swansea which may reduce opportunities for interaction and learning.
Scholarship
- Swansea University offers many scholarships and financial aid based on need, experience, skills to support students from diverse backgrounds. Some of the notable scholarships include: Chevening Scholarship, this prestigious scholarship provides full financial support to outstanding students who have demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to making a positive impact in their home country. But there is one backdrop of this scholarship that you can’t go for a Post study work visa or sponsorship visa under this.
- The university is also offering scholarships specifically for students with significant professional experience in their chosen field of study. These scholarships aim to attract students who can bring practical insights to their academic field.
- University also has bursaries that vary depending on the student’s country of residence. These bursaries are designed to make education more accessible to international students, and the amounts can differ based on factors specific to each country.
- For students who demonstrate a strong passion for entrepreneurship, Swansea University offers scholarships and grants that can help fund their education. And universities can even provide financial support or investment in business ideas for students who show promise as innovative entrepreneurs.
- Hardship funding is also an option for students facing financial difficulties or are unable to cover their living expenses/ cost due to unforeseen circumstances or other commitments.

- I received a £3000 scholarship from Swansea University, which was available to Asian students as part of their support for international students. This scholarship was not specific to individual merit but was awarded to all eligible Asian students, including my friends, helping us offset tuition costs as part of our studies. Somewere around 5000 students received this.

Dislikes
- You might face racism in this Country so be prepared for that.
Overview
I opted for Maritime Law at Swansea University since its faculties are pioneers in contributing to the literature in maritime law. It was always my first choice thus, my decision was a no-brainer. My experience at this Uni has been enriching. For career opportunities, one has to look at themselves. Please do not undertake this course if you don't have any work experience beforehand as it will be difficult for you.

Overview
I chose this university as this has a higher ranking in the healthcare sector, admission process is also flexible and can apply 3-4 months prior to the course starting as well. I missed the September intake deadline which was in April/May due to my passport issues and this was the best option I had for the January intake.
Overview
The university course -BSc Applied Medical Sciences is a fantastic pathway for those looking to go into medical research, enterprise, or study Medicine afterwards. The location is really relaxing with the beach near the university campus and the lecturers and support network is really welcoming and encouraging. I chose Swansea particularly due to the 2nd year Pathways that they provide to study Graduate Entry Medicine.
