Dislikes
- 1) Excessive state government Holidays (not the fault of college though)
Course Curriculum Overview
The course & the curriculum is excellent as per government college standards. In some private colleges there are several financial programs which government colleges lack but it's still good It's applicable in real life. The professors in our college are highly qualified, knowledgeable & have good teaching skills so I personally find their teaching methods perfect. But the government should make the syllabus more practical. The frequency of exams are a bit high like we give exams every 3-4 months in the semester system & they are moderate-tough in level.
Internships Opportunities
We don't yet get stipend for those internships. Even for majority we need to pay an amount. They are like learning programs not like traditional internships. We get to learn many new skills, soft skills, technological advancements, certificates,etc...
Placement Experience
I'm not sure but I think from 3rd year we will be eligible for placements. There are many finance companies, banks like HDFC, SBI, Canara,etc... & companies like TCS, Wipro, Capgemini, Deloitte, PWC,etc.... The highest package last year was like 9.64 LPA & in the year before it was 10 LPA while the average is around 2-2.5 LPA. Around 20% of the total strength gets placement. Even only few % of the total strength applies for the placements. My plan is to take a placement if I can or if not then off campusing and then gather work experience & do MBA later which will give me very benifits.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees structure for Bcom Honours in Heramba Chandra College is ?3850/- per semester which means ?7700/- Per annum. We get the SVMCM scholarship of ?1000/- per month for those whose family income is less than 2,50,000 Per annum (I haven't applied) And Kanyashree (K2) for girls. I'm am not sure about that amount. Every person pays the same fees just SC/ST candidates get some additional scholarships.
Campus Life
We get many events like Teachers' Day, Saraswati Puja, Holi, Fest, Freshers' party,etc... The library has vast collection of books & journals while most are of our syllabus. There is a sports week conducted by the college once a year. Other than that they select students for inter College tournaments of cricket, football, or any other games. We have a small playground where we play in our free time. There are several societies in our college for recreation & entertainment.
Admission
I have applied in many colleges like AGC Bose college, Surendranath college, City college (north), Seth Anandram Jaipuria college but I chose Heramba Chandra College due to it's better placements, better skill development, better company networks,etc.... No I made it there but I voluntarily cancelled my admission from there and came here. For our college, admission is managed by WBCAP portal in total 4 phases then rest 5-6 are conducted by the college. For UR category more of less minimum of 80% in best of 4 is required for admission. It's based on our class 12 marks.
Faculty
Faculty to students ratio of good. I mean the student strength is huge like 997 for just Bcom Honours but we have many teachers in our commerce department who are highly qualified, good in teaching, helpful & are available when we ask any help for notes or doubts near our exams. They guide us in all the possible ways. There are many faculties who are nice. I can't take 2-3 names. Majority are great teachers. I am regular to the college & I get to learn the concepts very clearly. Just because of excessive state government Holidays & exam holidays, we get less classes otherwise college classes were sufficient. There are generally 2 exams per semester. 1 internal 1 credit (25 marks) & 1 external 3 credit (75 marks). The fail ratio of moderate. Neither too high neither too low. The exams are generally easy just the paper checking is a bit strict. The course is very relevant for our future especially for students who want to built their career in Economics, Statistics, Commerce, Accountancy, Taxation, Marketing,etc....
Interview Experience
No we didn't have any group discussion or written exam. Our admission was just based on our 12th marks. We had admissions through 4 phases in WBCAP portal & later 6 phases in college portal for the remaining vacancies. It was based on a merit list. So we didn't need to take a separate preparation for it.
Night Life
There is a gym in the boys common area, good library, but our college is from 11:45 A.M. till 5:00 P.M. after that the campus becomes of Prafulla Chandra College which continues to around 9 P.M. There are no hostels in our college but there are several PG or messes nearby. The famous hangout place in our campus is the canteen or roaming around the entire campus & outside our campus it's undoubtedly Rabindra Sarobar Lake.
Other Applied Colleges
Seth Anandram Jaipuria College | Bachelor of Commerce [B.Com] {Hons.} (Accounting and Finance)
