What Students Say
Likes
- They do provide a lot of opportunities like hackathons inside the campus. They encourage to participate outside the college too.
- Good artists are invited for fests and overall a fun experience.
- Great bunch of people from all around India and also international students.
Dislikes
- Very strict attendance criteria with teachers often marking you absent and not rectifying the same.
- Low attendance leads to detention. To clear detention you have to pay 13000 per subject.
- You have to pay additional 10000 to sit in placements. And having attendance below 90% will get you debarred and ineligible to sit in placements.
Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to become software engineer so i choose CSE. The curriculum prepares you theoretically but not enough to be ready for industrial world. We have to study by other resources such as YouTube to be skilled enough to sit in placements. Although there are many technical seminars and events you can attend in the university which helps to hone your skills. The course could include web development and system designs which are the core subjects and are not included. The frequency of theory exams is per month and it is pretty easy. But you have to give internal practical vivas every week which is of 30 marks for each experiment. The teachers can be pretty biased when giving the internal marks. Overall the course is mediocre at best and the teachers too.
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunities come around 5th semester where companies like JP Morgan, Cognizant, Philips, Nokia, High Radius hire you for 3 to 6 months periods. Based on your performance, you are offered a PPI. Roles includes Sales Intern, Full Stack Developer, Data Science Intern, SDE Intern, R&D Intern, Frontend Intern, Backend Intern, etc.
Placement Experience
The student become eligible for campus placements from 5th semester. The companies visited per year are approximately 200. They claim 100% placements but in reality they divide students into placement and non- placement batches called tpp and ntpp. If you slip up even once, you will be debarred from the tpp group. The highest package is 53 LPA. The average package is 4.5 LPA. Companies like JP Morgan, TCS, Capgemini, PlaySimple, Cognizant, Nokia, Philips, Morgan Stanley, PWC, KPMG, EPAM, Watchguard, High radius, OYO, Coding Ninjas, Samsung, etc have already came. More companies are yet to come. Since the student intake is too much, placements are really hard to get since there is too much competition. In the end, people get hired in mass recruitment companies and get minimum pay of 3-4 lpa. My plans are apply for off-campus jobs and start working in corporate after the degree. If I don't get a job, I haven't decided what I will do next.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fee per semester we paid 106000 rupees. Examination fee is 2500 rupees per semester. And lastly security fee is 2500 rupees per semester. They do provide scholarship on the basis of CUCAT exam. You have to maintain 7.5 cgpa to continue your scholarship.
Campus Life
There are many events like Tashan Nights and Fresher's party. Many artists like Honey Singh, Shirley Setia, Monali Thakur have came for fests. Many punjabi artists come around every year. Many celebrities like Akshay Kumar, Siddharth Malhotra, Rakul Preet Singh, Sunny Deol have also visited to promote their movies. There are many books available in libraries for each course. The timings are from 9:30 a.m to 10:00 p.m. for the main library B1. Each classroom has a projecter for ppts and lecture notes. There are many sports ground to play, basketball and volleyball courts with countless food stalls nearby. There are many clubs including niches like technology, robotics, AI, literature, astronomy, blockchain, communication, psychology, ieee, etc. They manage many events related to their niche and give awards and participation certificates. These clubs also hire for several positions which are unpaid but they provide you with Letter of Recommendation.
Admission
I didn't apply to any other college. I chose it because it was close to my home. The admission process to give CUCAT exam for which the fees is 1000 rupees. The passing marks are 40 out of 100. The eligibility of the course if having 70% in your 12th exams. The admission process is easy and anyone can get in this college. The intake is also really high.
Faculty
Faculty are generally supportive and ready to help you although they are a little inexperienced since most of them have just completed their graduation or persuing PhD. My favourite faculties have been communication classes teachers. Assignments and suprise test consists of 10 and 12 marks respectively. Quiz is of 4 marks. There are two MSTs each of 20 marks which contain syllabus of unit 1 and 2 respectively. Also practical mst is held for practical subjects which is of 15 marks. Finally, there is final theory exams and final practical exam. Final theory exam is of 60 marks and consists of all three units. Final practical exam is of 40 marks. The exams are easy to pass and by studying for a month, you can easily score good marks and maintain a good cgpa. You will fail only if you study at last minute. The course contains core subjects like CN, DSA, DAA, DBMS, OS, Maths, Java, CPP, Statistics and Probability, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Aptitude, Communication and Soft skills.
Night Life
The night time is quite busy with people roaming around in campus chilling and playing games. There are many cafes like Nescafe and Food Republic which contains many popular food outlets like Domino's, La pinoz, etc. There are many food stalls which sell affordable and homely food. The food is of good quality and normal prices. The fountain park is the most popular hangout spot with people relaxing and chatting. Many people also like to play badminton, basketball, volleyball and football around this time. The overall vibe is playful and fun.
