What Students Say
Likes
- It's an open University so it's not really compulsory to attend the classes.
- The course is affordable as compared to other universities
- Exams are held annually so we get plenty of time to study while also doing other things like job etc.
Dislikes
- Their is no proper guidance available. We have to study by ourselves.
- No proper syllabus. Only the previous year question papers help.
- The timings for exam form, updates, exam dates everything needs to be checked time to time by our own selves as it's an open University
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is very relevant and covers all the history topics comprehensively. The study material is very good as many upsc aspirants and students preparing for competitive exams refer it. Though the curriculum can be improved by limiting and only adding the essential topics in it. There is too much of unnecessary information which makes it difficult to understand at times.
Fees and Financial Aid
I paid 16000rs (8000rs per year)for registration for 2 years to pursue MA in History at Ignou. Each year annually for term end exams I paid 800rs.(200rs per paper).. this year I will be paying 800rs again for term end exam. (200rs per paper)
Campus Life
The campus life at Bethune College, Calcutta University was very vibrant. We participated in all sort of annual day celebrations and fests. There were extracurricular actives and political clubs. However, the infrastructure was not that great and only few classes were clean and had projectors or air conditioning.
Admission
I chose IGNOU over other colleges like DU which also provides open learning because Du exam centres are only in Delhi while IGNOU centres are everywhere in India even at the most remote places. I couldn't travel to Delhi every semester and the fees was also considerably high there. For admission at Ignou it was very easy as I just needed to fill the online form from it's portal and then make upi payment.
Faculty
The faculty at Bhairab Ganguly College which is affiliated with Ignou is good. The faculty to student ratio is also good. Exams at ignou are generally held once a year called as term end exams. The curriculum is helpful as it is also helping with my upsc preparation.
Night Life
The college campus had one small canteen, a decent library and at the back of the campus there was a girls' hostel. Campus was pretty big with loads of flowers and plants which made the environment really beautiful and fresh. The locality however isn't safe at night for girls.
Other Applied Colleges
Delhi University - [DU] | Master of Arts [MA] (History)
It was far from my location.
