What Students Say
Likes
- You get to meet students from almost backgrounds. We have classmates who are from literature background
- Love attending alumni session, which will be held regularly
- You will make lifelong connections. Which you will cherish.
Dislikes
- Compared to other business schools apart from IIMA, it has a strong academic structure that will test you.
- Keep reminding yourself from time to time why you wanted to be here, because at some point you will want to give up due to the toxic culture that comes with the competition.
- It's all fun and joyous until you start giving into the toxic culture and peer pressure.
Course Curriculum Overview
PGP is a 2 year course, in first Year all the courses are foundational course that let's you prepare for the second year and also helps you find your interest area. Specialities include Strategy, Finance , operations, information technology, general management and Human resources. Almost all the course are case based teaching. Each term is about 3 to 3.5 months with two exams mid terms and end terms - with two subjects test during exams in a day. And with occasional quizzes and regular presentations.
Internships Opportunities
All the top consulting, finance, FMCG, and information technology companies come for placements, ranging from consulting roles to management, with packages from ?1.2 lakhs to ?4 lakhs per month, averaging ?1.5 lakhs per month.
Placement Experience
IIML has extensive industry connections and a strong alumni network, with a robust placement cell entirely managed by students, unlike other B-schools. From the fifth term, students are eligible for placements, and the average salary stands at 32 lakhs per annum, with the maximum going up to 80 lakhs.
Fees and Financial Aid
350,000 lakhs per term, total 6 terms + infrastructure + caution deposit = 21.4 lakhs. If you opt for student exchange, you will incur an additional 8 to 10 lakhs. I have not applied for any scholarships, but scholarships are available for marginalized students.
Campus Life
Campus is spread across 200 hectares, with great infrastructure. We have close to 45 clubs and committees covering student interest groups, industry-specific to recreational clubs. We have a physical library and a digital library, accessible from anywhere, and research terminals. Our flagship event is Manifest Verchesva, our annual cultural festival. But almost all the clubs have their own events. In January and February, there will be at least one event per day.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are included in the course fee. This course mandates student presence on campus. Meals are decent if North Indian cuisine is considered; they are not so great for South Indian cuisine. Staying away from campus is not allowed.
Admission
I applied to all the top B-schools but secured interview opportunities only from IIMA and IIMC. My top choices were IIMB and IIML (and all other top B-schools). I missed my opportunity at IIMB; I believe this was due to my interview. However, I managed to convert my next best option, IIML. I joined after taking the CAT, which is a relatively easy exam compared to JEE, NEET, and state entrance exams. Securing a percentile above 95 puts you in a good position to receive at least one interview call from top colleges.
Faculty
All the professors are approachable and helpful; occasionally, you get an opportunity to work with them on live projects. Prof. Vikas Srivastava (finance), Prof. Ashutosh Kumar Sinha (strategy), and Prof. Himanshu Rathore (operations) are some of the best professors I have had the chance to be part of. The way they navigate the class feels effortless and engaging. It is easy to clear the exams given the standard of students who join, but it is difficult to get good grades because of relative grading. We have a saying in Lucknow: You have to work hard to fail.
Interview Experience
After clearing the CAT exam, eligible candidates receive shortlists from the colleges. Each college then has its own criteria and procedure for further shortlisting students. Group discussion was not part of it, but SOP, essay writing, and interviews were part of most colleges' processes. I enrolled in a coaching center for preparation.
Night Life
Cafeteria can be accessible till 3 in the morning and you get to rome arround the campus entire night. Gym can be accessed from 6 to 9 am and 4 to 9 pm, library is open 24/7. Hostels are the most happening place. Can party entire night in private place but in public space its restricted to 3 am with prior permission.
