Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculem is highly relevant and comprehensive designed to provide a strong foundatiom in core engineering subjects ,It alligns well with industry standards ,However there is a room for improvement ,such as offering more electives in emerging fields like AI,Iot and data science and updating course content to reflect the latest technological advancements .The exam system has one midsem and one endsem per semester ,i think the difficulty level is moderate because 90% of the class gets passes in the exams

Campus Life

5

Annual and Tech fests like Innovision held in october featuring competitions ,workshops and guest lectures ,NITRUTSAV held in Februaray ,its the cultural fest with music ,dance ,drama and art ,other small sports activities like intra hall ,inter hal wherein students from different hostels compete with each other in different sports ,Biju patnaik central library has a vast collection of books and e resoures ,students can access both physical and digital resources daily.Smart classrooms equipped with projectors WIFI and modern teaching tools ,labs are well equiped with latest technology , clubs like APS,webwiz (coding) udaan(drones) , robotics club ,cultural clubs like music dance and drama clubs also there.

Admission

I chose NIT Rurkela over other colleges because of its strong academic reputation ,excelent placement records and vibrant campus life ,I aimed for IITs through JEE advanced but couldnt secure a seat due to hig competition and cutoff ranks ,compared to other NITs like NIT trichy and NIT warangal nNIT rourkela sttod out for its better placements and campus environment .i Also recieved offers from private colleges like VIT,SRM but preffered NIT Rourkela for its governmant affiliation lower fees and higher ROI.The admission process was smoot ,conducted trough JEE Mains and JOSAA i secured admission in my preferred branch (chemical) based on my rank (22091) for a general candidate .

Faculty

5

About faculty members ,faculty to student ratio is 1:15 ,Faculty members are generally approachable and supportive .I liked proffesor Dr. sumanta pyne(CS lecturer for our first sem),DR. rupam dinda (chem prof),Dr. Sumit Kumar Saha (ECE Department). The curriculum is rigorous and covers both core and emergig topics .There is one mid sem and one end sem per semester exams are moderately difficult ,testing both theorotical and practical knowledge pass rate is anout 90%.our Conitnuous evaluation is taken through asssignments a=lab performance (30% weightage).sometimes relative grading also takes place if the paper is extremely hard/ students are not able to score much.limited options in some departments but efforts are being made to add more industry relevant courses

Night Life

5

As campus is green and big it is also safe ,roaming in the hostel and campus near the golden jublee with friends and dilip turkey stadium sachin tendulkar stadium ,gymming in the hostel gym. Every hostel has gymming facilities, canteen (day and night), stationary ,essentials shop ,mess ,caretakers, water (available 24/7). night canteen gets closed after 1pm .outside the campus Hilltop is the famous hangout place .

There are internship opportunities at the starting of 3rd year and job opportunities at the starting or 4th year. This year many companies visited the campus which include DE Shaw, Flipkart, Oracle, TCS, VISA(for summer internship drive), and various start-ups like Sarvam AI and many more. Highest package was 56.8LPA by DE Shaw. Flipkart took a total of 20 candidates (12 were selected for 34.5LPA and 8 for internship opportunities). Average package going around 9LPA. TCS mass recruited candidates for around 4 LPA, and ORACLE has been consistent at taking candidates for 24 to 25 LPA. Percentage of Students placed for CSE branch is 90. Many students opt for M Tech courses via GATE exam after getting their degree.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I mainly chose this course because the college is Autonomous, which allows them to update the syllabus faster than standard university colleges; seeing subjects like Python and Data Science in the early semesters really influenced my decision. The curriculum is decent for getting placed in service-based companies like TCS or Wipro since they focus heavily on the basics and aptitude, though for high-end product roles or research, you have to put in extra effort yourself. I definitely think they need to reduce the theory load and focus more on practical coding because sometimes it feels like we are just writing assignments instead of building things. Also, the junior faculty rely too much on reading from slides, which really needs to change to make classes more engaging. As for exams, it feels like we are always writing them since we have two internals and one end-semester exam per term. They are moderately difficult and the checking is strict, so you can't slack off, but the tight schedule can get quite exhausting.

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
