Course Curriculum Overview

3

The ai/ml course attracted me because it combines atrong theoretical foundation with practical, industry- focused learning. The structure made it clear that it would help build both core concepts and real-world skills needed for this field. The curriculum prepares student well for both real-world applications and higher studies by balancing fundamentals, tools and project based learning. Its focus on both theory and implementation makes the transition to internship or placements.

Internships Opportunities

3

Second year onwards students are eligible for internships, the companies coming for placements also offer internships to meritorious students based on their projects and skills. It is better that you join a technical or coding club in order to gain expertise in your skill.

Placement Experience

4

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.

Fees and Financial Aid

The year wise fees to pay is 425000 which include bothe the semester fees, hostel and mess fees. The tution fees per semester for AI/ML is 157500 and since i had opted for 3 seater non ac my hostel fees is 60000 per year and a 45000 mess fees per year. Apart from this in the beginning we were asked to pay 10000 aqs security deposit which is refundable. The college also provides scholarhsip of 35000 per year to those who have got more than 8CGPA or 80% in their previous academics.

Campus Life

5

There are various technical and annual festivals held, SOA cup an Inter-College sports competition is held in the month of December. Reignite an event where various clubs introduce themselves to the first year students is held in November, and various other small campus based sports tournament like cricket, BGMI, kabaddi and others are held in November and December. There is an entire building of library which contains thesis, journals and books related to engineering courses and placements. Each classroom is equipped with a smart board, is well air- conditioned and seats are also comfortable. There are various clubs in the college for the students to join, like in the coding area we have 4 clubs- Google cloud development, CODEX club, GeekforGeeks club being the neweest, and Code ninjas, in technical we have the ITER Robotics club in which I have joined, and there is a photography club, drama club, singing club, dancing club among the others.

Hostel Facilities

5

I live in a 3-seater hostel and the room is spacious and ventilated there are 3 wall attached cupboards for the three. And there is study desk and chair for each and a charging socket above each bed. 2 fans and 2 lights at the corner. It is better to get the corners of the room rather than staying the middle. In some rooms there are cloth hangers fixed from before by the ex-students and some even have pardas installed. The meal is average but currently since the caterer has changed the meal provided is quite good and the menu is very good with both non-veg and veg options each day. We are also provided with evening snacks though sometimes it is not sufficient for us. You are given an option to register for the hostel at the time when you fill for the admission online. The hostels are very affordable and reasonable alongwith the mess charge.

Admission

I had also applied for Chandigarh University alongwith my friend we got admission into our desired branches we were also given scholarship of about 70000 on the 175000 tution fees but decided to withdraw because of not so student-friendly environment, transportation issue. The scholarship is given on the basis of CUCET online proctor baes exam conducted by the university itself for admission. In our college the admission process starts from March or April and admission is done in two ways- by giving online SAAT exam, or through JEE Mains result. It continues till the month of August until the vacant seats aren't filled. The overall admission experience is average, after selection you are first required to pay some amount as demand draft to the university in order to confirm your admission. Then you need to go the campus in order to fill the admission form and pay the remaining fee.

Faculty

4

The faculty to student ratio is balanced enough to ensure that the students recieve adequate personal attention and acaademic support. Faculty members are generally approachable, encouraging students to ask questions and seek guidance. Out of my 5 teachers I like my Maths sir Mr Panda and Universal Human Values teacher Mrs. Shanti MIshra the most, they are very interactive and their teaching method is understandable. There are no reasons to dislike the teachers other teachers and faculty is also good. 2 exams are conducted each semester mid-sem and end sem examinations, in the middle of the semester and at the end, mid-sem is of 30 marks and end sem of 60 marks, 2 quizzes of each subject is taken before the mid sem exam and after it and they carry around 5 marks. You also get 5 marks for maintaining an overall attendance of 75% across the subjects and min. 50% is required to sit in the end sem exams. The exam level is from moderate to hard in which some students fail to get their desired marks. Overall the marking scheme and curriculum is good.

Night Life

3

There is gym inside the campus "Eco Gym" which is currently under construction. There are 5 cafeterias in the campus all in one building in 5 floors where students can chil and study without any disturbance. Library is opened from morning to evening 5.30 pm . The cafeterias and the park are famous hangout places among the students in the campus. Since I live in off campus hostel we are allowed to go out at night and we feel totally safe as the hostel is surrounded by well societies and houses, girls need to enter the hostels by 7.30 pm and they cannot go out without taking there permission from parents.

Reviewed on Jan 9, 2026(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. Relevance & Comprehensiveness (Rating: 7/10) The course curriculum at SOA is updated frequently compared to state government colleges. Why I chose this: I was attracted to the fact that the syllabus includes modern electives like Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Data Analytics starting from the 3rd year itself, rather than waiting for the final semester. Real-world Prep: The curriculum is designed largely to crack placement interviews. There is a heavy focus on Aptitude and Core Coding subjects (DS/Algo) which helps in getting a job. However, for deep research or R&D roles, the theoretical depth is sometimes lacking. 2. Areas for Improvement Teaching Methods: A major issue is the reliance on PowerPoint Presentations (PPTs). Many faculty members just read off the slides. I would prefer more "Whiteboard Teaching" for mathematical and logic-based subjects. Lab Records: We spend hours handwriting practical records/files which are just copied from the manual. This is a waste of time. This time should be used for live coding projects or hackathons. Outdated Subjects: First-year students (even in CS/IT) are forced to learn heavy mechanical/civil concepts. While basics are good, the depth of these non-core subjects should be reduced. 3. Exam System & Difficulty Frequency: It is quite hectic. We have 2 semesters a year. Each semester has 2 Internal Assessments (Quizzes/Mid-sems) and 1 End-Semester Exam. Basically, you have an exam every 1.5 to 2 months. Difficulty: The exams are Easy to Moderate. It is not very difficult to pass. If you study the "Class Notes" and "Previous Year Questions" for 3-4 days before the exam, you can easily score an 8.0 SGPA. The checking is lenient for passing, but strict if you are aiming for a 9.5+ SGPA.

I actually have a very little idea about placements of our uni few seniors says there is not a single company visiting, while few were discussing the highest placement which was something like 20lpa or something,i think companies do visit our campus it may not be much but i have definetly seen one or two companies visiting. I plan to do MBA after my Btech so i am not that serious about whether i am getting placed or not.

Gandhi Engineering College (GEC Autonomous), Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Reviewed on Dec 22, 2025(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

I mainly chose this course because the college is Autonomous, which allows them to update the syllabus faster than standard university colleges; seeing subjects like Python and Data Science in the early semesters really influenced my decision. The curriculum is decent for getting placed in service-based companies like TCS or Wipro since they focus heavily on the basics and aptitude, though for high-end product roles or research, you have to put in extra effort yourself. I definitely think they need to reduce the theory load and focus more on practical coding because sometimes it feels like we are just writing assignments instead of building things. Also, the junior faculty rely too much on reading from slides, which really needs to change to make classes more engaging. As for exams, it feels like we are always writing them since we have two internals and one end-semester exam per term. They are moderately difficult and the checking is strict, so you can't slack off, but the tight schedule can get quite exhausting.
