What is a better option, NIT Durgapur for chemical or NIT Rourkela for biotechnology?

The choice of an institute depends on 2 major factors, the credibility of the institute and the branch you are getting. In terms of the worth of the institute NIT Rourkela clearly overpowers NIT Durgapur. NIT Rourkela ranks second in East India after IIT Kharagpur. NIT Rourkela Biotechnology is designed for students whose primary focus is pursuing qualitative research and g for a Masters's or Ph.D. That being said, it has limited job opportunities and the placement percentage is as low as 60%. Moreover, only a handful of core companies make offers and the average CTC offered is in the range of 5 -6 Lakhs. NIT Durgapur Chemical Engineering is a suitable choice if you prioritize placements to research work. Even the core placements are decent here with companies like IOCL, etc visiting the campus during placements. Ultimately, both institutes and branches offer diverse opportunities so you need to consider your inclinations first. If you are a research enthusiast, NIT Rourkela Biotechnology is great but if your first preference is earning money, then go for NIT Durgapur Chemical Engineering.

My suggestion will be the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. The reasons are mentioned below. It is solely dedicated to chemical engineering, unlike NIT Rourkela. It is famous for producing brilliant chemical engineers for years now. It has location benefits as Maharashtra and Gujarat are home to many industries. This helps in easy internship opportunities and placements also. Many good companies and even PSUs participate in the campus placement drive. Even if you have low CGPA points, you will get hired if you do well at the interview. The professors are the best in their respective domains. They also have good connections in the industry. They can help you get placed in any industry with just one letter. Chemical engineering is a part of many departments in NIT Rourkela or any other NIT but ICT Mumbai specializes in it. For the 1st and 2nd semesters, the tuition fee is 62500 each. So the total tuition fee is 125000. The admission fee is 2500. Student Activity and medical fee both are 2000 for each semester. The other fee is 5000 for each 1st and 2nd semester 10000. Then hostel rent is 5000 for both semesters. The development fee is also 5000 for both semesters each. Mess fee is 30000 for both semesters, and there is a one-time institute emergency fund deposit which is 12500. The total fee is around 248000 for 1st year. For SC/ST/families of income below 1lpa, there is no tuition fee. And families of income between 1 lpa to 5 lpa have to pay one-third of the tuition fee.

NITR Review

In first year, I paid around 1.5 Lakhs. The tuition fees is around 65000. There is also caution fees and various other fees for many categories. There are fee waivers for students belonging to categories and also for students having annual income less than 1L or between 1L to 5L. Till now, I am not aware of any scholarship provided directly by the institute.

The fees structure at Nit rourkela for one semester (category:-General) includes 62500Rs of tution fees ,student activity fee of 5000Rs,medical fees of 2000Rs,hostel seat rent of 5000Rs,Mess Advance of 17500Rs,Hall establishment fees of 5000Rs .total:-99000Rs for one semester ,Caution money(one-time refudable if program is completed),Institute Emergency Fund(one-time fee to be directly deposited into corpus fund at the time of admission) is 12500Rs .For SC/ST/PH family income less tham 1lakh ,Tution fees is completely exempted.For students shaving income between 1lakh to 5lakh per annum (tution fees is one-third of tution fees i.e Rs. 20833 (Total fees for all 8 semesters for a 4-year program is Rs(124000 + 99000 + 99000 + 99000 + 99000 + 99000 +102000 + 99000 ) =Rs 728200 For a general candidate Rs(478200) for those whose income is below 5 lakh and above 1 lakh and 228000Rs for those whose income is less than 1 lakh per annum . Scholarships require Documents like academic transcripts,income certificate ,proof of admission and caste certificate . post-matric scholarships is offered by odisha governmant to some of my SC/ST friends ,full tution fee waiver and lallowance of 1000Rs per month ,they applied via National scholarsip portal (NSP) National talent scolarship is for meritorious students from economically weaker sections ,it offers Rs 15000-Rs 20000 /yrae .My friends applied through NSP or state portals,TCS is for all students ,it provides 20000-50000Rs ,while cse students get 50000-100000/year . apply via TCS Foundation .Infosys scholarships is for meritorious students with financial needs (75000 approx) ,apply thorugh infosys foundation ,Indian oil scholarship offers 10000-30000Rs to students in technical courses wit family income below 1lakh/year ,apply via indian oils portal. ONGC scholarship provides 48000 Rs /year to engineering management students ,apply through ONGC portal .

NIT R where peace meets people

For one sem the fee is around 80000. For sc and st categories it less than that. I am not getting any scholarship. For sem in total 40000.... It is divided like 20000 for mess and another 20000 for establishment fee, current fee etc...

Why I choose nit Rourkela

The total fees for a general student for btech is 62500(tuition fees ) and 49500 (hostel fees) per semester.Honestly saying it is worth it as other colleges takes much more amount of money for the same.If you are an ST/SC/family income less than one lakh then tuition fees waiver is applicable for you.

Basically College is vast and big enough covered with lush green forest.All the basic infrastructure like gym night canteen swimming pool sports equipments grocery or snacks stores are easily available inside the campus. No restriction in hostel apart from alcohol or smoking activities. All can enjoy the freedom here

Experience as a student at NIT Rourkela

The teaching methodology of the Professors is not good too. Same as other Nits and IITs you will get only the old Syllabus.

The Fees vary in the summer and autumn semesters. Tuition fees are 63000 Rs excluding Hostel and Mess Fees. The fee becomes around 1Lakh 3k Rs after including the Hostel and Mess Fee. So, in all a total of Rs 2 Lakh we had to pay as fees, which includes Everything. The Caution fee is rs 5000 per semester, Registration fees, admission fees, and development fees all together go around 10000 Rs. For reservation Categories like SC, and ST there are no Tuition Fees, all other fees are the same. Financial Aid is provided to those who have valid Income Certificates according to their Income Group.

Tuition fees is mostly unchanged. Complete cost of education is merely 90000. Campus employment is unknown to me as I will know enter 4th year so i will get to experience it this year. There various scholarships offered ranging from 10000 to 50000.

A brief review of nit rourkela

In internet you will see internet criteria is 85% but in reality it is above that.
The attendance criteria is very strict .

There are lot of scholarship opportunities in nit rourkela for which students can apply for, there are lot of scholarships available for students specifically for 1st year students there are lot of scholarships for whole engineering degree one can research about scholarships on the internet and i have not taken any stipend or anything and the affordability of this college is very high compared to other nits because the fees is increased a lot

Internship-first step to placement.

Fee structure comprises of hostel, mess , tution and miscellaneous fees...which is overall 90000 per semester as a general category student. I have also got FFE scholarship of 50000 and I would apply for loan too to buy a new laptop and help in further studies.
