Placement Experience:

From the 6th or 7th sem one can go for pre placement or internship their cgpa and skills are measured for this. There are a lot of good companies coming for placements in our college , companies like GOOGLE , AMD , Qualcomm, Amazon, oracle, ola , microsoft , apple etc comes with a higher offers There was a total of 1274 placement offers this year. The highest package of this year was 62.44 LPA and average package was 14-15 LPA The placement rate of Btech program was about 82.20 percentage . Also this year our college up ranked from 19 to 13th in engineering becoming the second best NIT in India

So, the Positive aspects of the college are that big companies come for the place Like Amazon, NVIDIA, Tata, Texas Instruments and many more. And also, the fees is relatively less than the other engineering colleges. And also many workshops happens.

The curriculum is not up to date The college is only focusing on theory but not on the skills for the students and therefore students have to work by their own to develop such skills which require for the placements.

Placement Experience:

So the students become eligible for placemant usually from the 7th semester of the Btech which is from the 4th year and the internship opportunities are available from the 3rd year onwards that is from 5th and 6th semester. So in year 2024-25 the number of companies that visited The campus is around 330 And the total job offers offered is about 1200. So the highest package in the EC branch is about 1.2 crore per annum and the average package for the EC branch is around 13 to 14 lakhs. And the Profile of jobs are core electronics, VLSI and semiconductor roles ,system and embedded developments, software engineering, IT services, consulting and analytics. The percentage of student which are getting placed are in the range of 90 to 99% for ECE branch. The top recruiters are Apple Google, Microsoft, Amazon, wipro, Deloitte, Tata,Vedanta etc. After completing my degree in ECE from NIT Rourkela my plan is to join the core technology sector as a VLSI and semiconductor engineer in a reputed multinational Companies, leveraging the strong foundation and industrial exposure gained during my studies in case I do not secure a campus placement I aim to pursue the off campus opportunities in electronics, IT or analytics sectors. Alternatively I am open to perceive higher studies in MBA to specialize in the management sector.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements in there fourth year of college from 1st semester. The average package is around 12 lakh and around 90-95 % of students are places in all branches. The top recruiters of metallurgy branch include Jindal , TATA Steel and JSW. The highest package was around 1.2 cr and it was from ece branch. From pre final year of every course, students are eligible for on campus internships and from final year, we are eligible for campus placements The overall average placement of nit rourkela in 2023-24 was 1340000 And, life science hasnt seen much of placement since most go for higher research opportunities or they get placed in coaching institutes for min 3 lpa and max. 6 to 7 lpa Overally college had 90%+ placement but life science had only 3 offers last year which obviously is teacher at big neet coaching institute such as aakash,narayana,etc.

I am a first year so don't know much about placements an internships. Avegmrage package is - 10-12 lakhs Median package - 8-9 lakhs Highest domestic package - 52 lakhs Highest international package - 1.2 crore The average placement percentage of all branches are more than 90 always. Even some branches like mining and ceramic have 100% placements. After the 6th semester students are eligible for campus placements and after 4th sem students are eligible for internships. I have just gave the fivestar but I am a first year student remember.

At the end of the fourth year of the graduation students become eligible for the campus placements various companies visit to a campus like Microsoft Google Netflix meta etc. The highest campus placement goes in crores and average is also satisfactoryit is all between 25 to 30 lacs per year. In civil engineering department the highest placement was around 50 lacs and the lowest placement was around 8 - 9 lacs and average placement was around 14 lakhs per year. Almost 80 to 90% of the students are getting placed in civil department each year and almost 80% of the camp presidents are in getting placed every year in their final year. The placement scenario at NIT Rourkela is second only to the top NITs. In fact, it has high cutoffs too. Most students unable to make it to the top NITs consider NIT Rourkels as their first option. The reason is its improving placement statistics. Sparing a few core branches, the average packages are decent for most branches.

NIT Rourkela Placements 2023 rapped with a total of 1534 job offers. The highest package was recorded at INR 52.98 LPA whereas the average package stood at INR 12.95 LPA. 8 students received the highest package & 24 students received a package of around INR 50 LPA.

Branches like Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, and Ceramic Engineering branches recorded 100% placements. Here is the branch-wise average package offered during NIT Rourkela Placements 2023:

I don't think many companies even consider CGPA as the criteria for evaluating your eligibility to get placed. CSE students especially have to work on their coding and problem-solving skills more than their CGPA. I am not saying CGPA does not matter at all, what I mean is it's not the main criteria. You still need a good CGPA to qualify for the cutoffs set by companies. Most companies are okay with a decent 7 while some even let you sit with a CGPA around 6. Only a few government companies like CDOT and DRDO, set high cutoffs. The number of companies expecting a high CGPA is usually very low.

One of my friends at NIT Rourkela stated that there is no direct connection between your CGPA and the package you receive, rather it all depends on individual skills. If you are a CS student, bear in mind that your interviewer will expect good coding skills in any of the high-level programming languages like C/C++/Java, etc., a strong grasp of data structures and algorithms, basics of operating systems, and some fundamental theoretical concepts of database and networking. Such skills will overcome even your low CGPA.

NIT Rourkela CSE average package 2023 stood at INR 21.87 LPA . So it can be said that as a NIT Rourkela student, if you have a CGPA of 7+ you will be eligible to sit for placements of most CS companies but your chances of selection depend on the skills you developed through the period of 4 years.

The placement scenario of NIT Warangal, Surathkal, and Trichy is somewhat the same with minor differences only. One of my friends studied at NIT Warangal and shed some light on the placement scenario there. Here is a branch-wise analysis

CSE : The placements for the CSE branch are the best in NIT Warangal as well as Trichy and Surathkal. Students are placed in huge software giants like Microsoft, D.E.Shaw, Adobe, Directi, Tower Research Capital, Cisco, IBM, and some Investment Bankers like Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley, etc The average package of CSE recorded this year was INR 30.8 LPA for BTech while INR 30.43 LPA for MTech.
ECE - The companies coming on the first day of placements are Qualcomm, Broadcom, Nvidia, SanDisk India, Redpine Signals, Samsung, and Caterpillar, etc., Software companies like Cisco, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Oracle, etc allow ECE students to sit for placements. The average package for BTech students is INR 23.6 LPA and for MTech students is around NR 20.4 LPA.
EEE - Companies like Alstom, Reliance, and PSUs like Power Grid, IOCL, HPCL, etc., offer core profiles to EEE students. Additionally, software companies that come for ECE and CSE students also allow EEE students to sit for placements. The average package for EEE is INR 21.19 LPA for BTech students and between 11- 14.6 LPA for MTech students.
Mechanical Engineering: Companies like Caterpillar, Michelin, Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Volvo, Larsen and T0ubro, Vizag Steel Plant(RINL), etc., recruit Mechanical Engineering students of NIT Rourkela. The average package is INR 12.4 LPA for BTech students and between 9-12 LPA for MTech students.

This poor placement scenario stems from the outdated CSE curriculum at NIT Rourkela. The curriculum focuses on theoretical concepts only and students are not exposed to practical experiences.

So, I will suggest you go for CSE M.tech at NIT Rourkela only if you are unemployed after your BTech or you want to pursue your career academically. Joining this course on the pretext of getting better jobs will not be a wise decision.

The exact placement scenario of Industrial Design Engineering at NIT Rourkela depends on the individual's preference and strengths. Consider the following points

Students who aren't particularly interested in the field, are recruited by companies like TCS, IBM, and Infosys. Their salary packages are in the range of 3 - 3.5 LPA.
If you have prepared for CAT and Analytics tests, sit for companies like Affine Analytics, ZS associates, Mu Sigma, and a few other analytics companies. The salary packages offered by these companies are in the range of 4-6 LPA.
If you are not interested in mechanical, you can sit for core mechanical companies like Honda, 3dplm, Thermax, etc. The salary is offered in the range of 4 - 7 LPA.
If you want to pursue product design go for higher studies or do internships and gain experience to crack Product design jobs.

I asked a senior about the placement scenario and he told me that in his batch, 80% of the students got placed. The highest stipend offered was Rs. 35,000 per month, and the lowest stipend offered was Rs. 7,000 per month. A few major recruiters included Vedanta, Sera, Somani, Jindal Steel, etc. In 2020, the highest package offered was 42 LPA , while the average package offered was 8.75 LPA . These salary packages are improving every year due to increasing demand. Most of the students from core branches got placements, while the rest of the students opt for higher studies.

Overall, the placement of Ceramic engineering at NIT Rourkela is great.

NIT Rourkela's average package of Electrical Engineering 2023 was recorded at INR 14.55 LPA. Moreover, the quality and number of recruiters are also great given the fact that it's one of the top NITs. However, core jobs are only a handful and not at par with IT jobs. NIT Rourkela Electrical Engineering is the perfect choice for those looking for a government job preferably in PSUs. PSUs give a lot of preference to Electrical Engineers especially from NIT Rourkela since most of their work involves the core engineering branches.

I asked a friend in NIT Rourkela regarding the current placement scenario of the EE branch. As per the information he shared, almost 92% of the student got placed in 2022. Top recruiting companies are Microsoft, Qualcomm, Oracle, Adobe, Wipro, Citi Bank, and SAP Labs. The highest CTC recorded was 55 LPA, while the average package was 11-12 LPA.

In all, placements in the electrical engineering branch of NIT Rourkela are great with immense opportunities in software roles, electrical and electronics roles, and analytical roles.

What is the statistics on the average salary packages offered to students during placements?

The average salary package offered to the students of NIT Rourkela is INR 13.89 lacs per year. It is better than the previous year average package which was 12.56 lacs per year. However, the average placement package offered in NIT Rourkela was INR 15.74 lacs per year. There were more than 330 recruiters which participated in the NIT Rourkela placements.

NIT Rourkela does not conduct any international placements or internships. However, it invites various multinational companies for recruiting students in its campus such as KPMG, Deloitte, PWC and Shell.
