Remarks

Our college is one of the best college under Calcutta university. With all the facilities available and with the finest teaching staff and with lots of extra curriculum activities for students, our college ranks to be amongst the top.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

As microbiology is a very rare course not provided by all the colleges in calcutta, our college was one of the good colleges on teaching them. Microbiology requires a huge amount of practical classes that was given sufficiently by the college authorities. Infact the practicals required very costly equipments which were all present in college labs. The classes were also took in a regular manner by the teachers. And there was a mid term exam of the college other than the university exams

Placement Experience

1

As because our college only teaches bsc courses, so they are unable to provide any jobs as such. Our college doesn't provides internship. We can only get a graduation certificate from our college and nothing more. So in short our college doesnt provides any placement after graduation. No company comes here for internship.

College Events

5

The main event celebrated in our college is the college fest named nexus. Nexus, the fest, continues for abt 4 days in which each day there are lots of events taking place. Nexus is also an inter college fest as students from different colleges come and participate in the dancung drawing singing, etc. The events comprises of treasure hunt, dance competetion, music competetion, racing, painting, small games, a dj night, and finally a guest performance by any Bollywood celebrity like Jubin Nautiyal Or Amit Prakash Mishra, etc. Entry for the outsiders are also allowed but it is done only if they hold a college pass

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is feasible. Its only 25000 per year for microbiology course. For other courses it is even less as because our college is a government based college. Plus every year we have to pay some registration fees before giving the exams which amounts to near about a thousand rupees.

Fees and Financial Aid

Our college never provides a scholarship. Atleast i have never heard of anyone getting scholarship in my college. But the college do provides loan facility for the economically backward people who always cannot afford the college fees

Campus Life

4

The extracurricular activities are excellent in our college. As because our college has a huge ground of grass, everyday lots of students play sports there. Infact the college authorities have footballs and badminton rackets and tennis rackets and other gaming instruments which the students can take anytime they want. Moreover a lot of indoor games like carrom and ludo and table tennis is also present in the common room of the boys and girls. The labs are also well maintained and contains most of the equipments required for the practicals to take place

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel facility is not provided by our college now. Earlier it was provided by our college. As because the college is one of the oldest college in calcutta, so its infrastructure is quite old. With buildings of old times, now they do not provide hostel facility. Students coming from outside stays as paying guests in and around the college

Alumni/Alumna

The senior students are very much helpful. They always help us with whatever knowledge they have of. The junior and senior students maintains a very healthy relationship. Juniors and seniors all mix up together for anything of the college.

Admission

I got admission into college by first filling up a form online provided by them. They took a little money for the application form. Then after a few days they prepared a merit list based on the marks the students got in their higher secondary final exam. Then the counselling was done according to the merit list given by them

Faculty

5

The faculty in our college is really good. All the staffs are very much helpful. And the teachers too are very much helpful and caring. Some teachers cared for their students just like their own children. The teaching staff is also excellent. Most of them are phd persons.

College does provide internship opportunities both through the placement cell as well as department faculty. Semester 5 and Semester 7 students are eligible for placements. Average package is about 5.5 lakh per annum for microbiology course. Although placement percentage is on the lower side majority of students go for higher studies. Many prepare for exams like GATE, IIT JAM, etc.

college placements are good in this college with a number of good financial and consultancy firms coming in with new gen companies as well in the service and sales industry. moreoever getting a good placement in a top financial or consultancy placement requires a POR in a good society as a criteria, its not really required but adds to your chances of getting it. moreover you require to participate in a number of case study competitions for the same as well. my plans after graduation is probably working for a year or two after which i plan on doing my MBA. around 50-60% who apply get a placement.

In today's competitive job market it becomes important for the college to not just help students get degrees but also provide them with placements and internships so that they can have the experience needed to stand at a competitive footing with the rest of the candidates in the world. To look into this, St. Xavier's College has a Placement Cell run by Placements officer Mr. Niladri Sinha under whose guidance, various companies visit the college regularly looking for capable young minds to take under their wing and help provide them with the necessary exposure and experience so that they can combat any obstacles that they face.

The college offers good placements for economis. Students in their final year are eligible for campus placements and there is a cell dedicated to placements. Many students do not opt for placements and go for higher studies but many students who opt for it, get placed with decent packages. Many well-known companies visit the campus as well. I wish to explore my options after completing the degree as of now.
