What Students Say
Likes
- The flexibility with regards to the study schedule is the biggest positive. One can study as per their own wish without compulsory attendance making it possible to pursue additional courses or jobs.
- The infrastructure depends upon the study center chosen by the candidate. Some centers may have great facilities while some may lack even the basic ones.
- The course is overall pretty easy wherein one is expected to know most of the topics provided in the study material and prepare the assignment and submit it to the study center once in a year.
Dislikes
- The lack of a proper forum to discuss the issues related to the program is a big drawback. The mail ids and the contact numbers provided on the website rarely work.
- The lack of transparency in the marking process of the assignments and the year end examinations is also another major drawback.
- The lack of a proper college life might be another challenge.
Course Curriculum Overview
The contents of the course are relevant with the happenings of the world today. However, in many areas there is a need for significant updation of the content and need for amending the information as per the latest law in force. Apart from the core areas, the course also lays emphasis on extra subjects like English in Daily Life and Environmental Studies. The exams are held twice a year in June-July and December-January. A candidate can appear for the exams on the basis of his/her admission cycle.
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fees is 4,200 INR for 3 years which makes the total course fees 12,600. An additional 300 INR should be paid in the 1st semester as registration fee. On payment of the yearly fees, the university sends books in hard copy form. A 15% discount is allowed if the student opts for the soft copy version of the books.
Campus Life
Since I've not attended any events, I'm not sure about any being held. However, IGNOU does send mails regarding the events which are usually held in their Head Office or Regional Offices. IGNOU does have a e-library of its own where students can use books and materials provided by them.
Admission
I chose IGNOU because of the flexibility it provided in terms of learning times, attendance and managing other courses. I'm also pursuing CS wherein I'm required to to study for long hours and IGNOU provided me with the perfect opportunity to learn as well as not attend regular classes. I did not apply to any other college apart from IGNOU. The admission process is done in cycles. There are two cycles every year. January and July. A candidate can get admitted in any cycle. A few courses require entrace tests to get admission but most courses do not stipulate any condition except for clearing 10+2. Overall the admission process is fairly easy with no real drawbacks.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio cannot be calculated as there are no real faculties and the number of students under a regional office cannot be numbered. The study center officials do help candidates by clearing the queries regarding the administrative section but not with the academic section. For B.COM (BCOMG) there are 8 total subjects per year of which 6 are compulsory and 2 are electives. The exams are conducted at the year end and the dates depend upon the admission cycle (January and July). A person who has enrolled in January will be required to appear for the exams in December and those enrolled in July in June next year. The exams are fairly easy to clear but scoring good marks is difficult a
